We have heard your request and we join together in seeking God's will for you in Jesus' name as you walk through the pain of getting over a former relationship. We understand how deeply a broken bond can affect the heart, and we want to lift you up with compassion and truth.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord as Romans 10:9 teaches, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we pray and find healing.
We also want to speak biblically about relationships. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and that any romantic relationship should be approached as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, as taught in 2 Corinthians 6:14. If your former relationship involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, scripture calls that fornication and we encourage you to bring that before the Lord in repentance, for 1 Corinthians 6:18 tells us to flee sexual immorality, and 1 Thessalonians 4:3 says this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality. God is gracious to forgive when we confess, and He desires to make us whole. Even if that was not part of your situation, God still calls us to guard our hearts and to pursue relationships that honor Him and look toward a godly marriage rather than simply seeking a partner or holding onto the past.
The Lord sees your brokenheartedness and He is near to you. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 promises He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We encourage you to not dwell on what was, for Isaiah 43:18-19 reminds us not to remember the former things, for God is doing a new thing. We know God has a good plan for your future, for Jeremiah 29:11 says I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. As you surrender this hurt to Him, He will give you peace that surpasses understanding as Philippians 4:6-7 describes, and He will work all things for good for those who love Him according to Romans 8:28.
We pray together for you now. Father, we lift this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask You to heal the broken heart and to bind up every wound left by this former relationship. Wash away any sin with the blood of Jesus and grant repentance and forgiveness where needed. Help our friend to release bitterness, regret, and longing, and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Renew the mind and fill the heart with Your love and presence, so that there is no longer a clinging to what is past. Give strength to flee temptation to look back or to rekindle what is not Your will, and give wisdom to guard the heart. Lead this life toward wholeness in Christ first, and in Your perfect timing, if it is Your will, provide a godly spouse and a marriage that honors You. Teach trust in Your ways as Proverbs 3:5-6 says to trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. We ask for Your peace to guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and for hope to rise anew. We pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to stay close to the Lord daily through prayer and His Word, to fellowship with other believers who will support you in godly counsel, and to keep your eyes on Christ as your first love. He is faithful to complete the healing He has begun in you.
