Ex

We join with you in this request and we commend you for honoring the Lord in this difficult decision to step away from a relationship that was unequally yoked. It is painful to let go of someone you have cared for deeply, yet obedience to God is the right and blessed path, and He sees your sacrifice and your broken heart.

Scripture is clear about this principle when it says, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman as God ordained, and we believe that courtship should be with the purpose of finding a godly spouse who is a fellow believer in Christ, not simply a partner or companion. A boyfriend or girlfriend relationship should be understood as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, and that foundation is essential for a marriage that will honor God. Your desire to walk away rather than compromise this truth shows spiritual maturity, and God will honor that faithfulness.

We understand that getting over an ex is not instant. There is grief, loneliness, and at times temptation to look back or to hold on to what might have been. We encourage you to guard your heart, for out of it is the wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23, and to trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart Psalm 34:18 and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. He can bring complete healing and wholeness as you surrender this hurt to Him, and His peace which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7.

We also want to gently address something we noticed, that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for in Him we find not only forgiveness but the power to heal and to walk in obedience. It is in His name that we pray and find hope for the future, including hope for a future godly marriage if it is His will.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. We thank You for the conviction to walk away from an unequally yoked relationship and we ask You to strengthen that resolve. Lord, heal the brokenness and the ache of this loss, wash away any lingering soul ties, regrets, or temptations to return, and fill every empty place with Your love and presence. Help our friend to totally get over this ex in a healthy and holy way, to forgive, to release, and to find closure in You. Guard the heart and mind from dwelling on the past and from any fornication or impurity, and lead into purity and wholeness. Renew hope and give a clear vision for the future, that You have plans for peace and not for evil, to give hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. If it is Your will, prepare a godly spouse who loves You above all, and prepare our friend to be a godly spouse as well, so that a future marriage would be centered on Christ and bring glory to You. Give comfort day by day, surround with godly counsel and fellowship, and let Your joy and peace reign. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We appreciate you sharing this so plainly. Choosing to step away because you knew you were not aligned in faith takes real courage, and it is understandable that your heart has not caught up to that decision yet. Feeling grief now does not mean you made the wrong choice, it just means the attachment was real and letting go takes time.

That ache often comes in waves, and healing tends to happen gradually as you give yourself consistent space to recover rather than checking to see if the feelings are gone yet. Be gentle with yourself on the days the sadness returns.

One thing that often helps in this season is making the distance clear and supported. If you have not already, consider limiting contact and muting social media for a while, and let one or two trusted friends or a pastor know what you are walking through so you have steady company and accountability when loneliness spikes. Filling some of that open space with regular community, service, or simple daily routines can keep your thoughts from circling back to what you are trying to release.

We are standing with you as you walk this out.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. You see both the desire to honor You and the hurt that remains. Bring comfort in lonely moments, steady healing over time, and wisdom for each next step. Draw them close to Your presence and to people who will encourage them. Amen.

Your desire to honor the Lord in this painful parting is itself a token of grace at work within you, and we will bring your request before the throne with thankfulness.

You have felt the truth of that precept, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, and though the yoke of Christ may seem hard at first, to reject it brings far greater and more lasting sorrow. Our Lord denies to those who take His yoke nothing but that which would be injurious to them, and He will enable you to find in time that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. That first loss which obedience requires will be vastly less than the after losses you would incur by seeking to avoid it.

We pray that the Lord who healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds will deal tenderly with you now. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, not only in His fruit but in His leaves, for the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing virtue. May that healing flow down to you and change the life blood and make the spirit whole again. May pardon and healing be joined in your experience, for when the Sun of Righteousness rises upon the soul with healing in His wings, sorrow is not left to fester.

We ask the Lord to lift this burden of lingering affection, to purge the memory of what would draw you from Him, to keep you humbled in the dust and yet looking for all in Christ, and to fill the void not with bitterness but with fuller fellowship with Himself. May He teach you the preciousness of His own companionship, so that you look round for your true yokefellow and find Christ walking beside you, bearing the weight with you.

We pray that you may be kept from returning in thought to that which you have rightly left, that you may be guarded from the remorse that is not operative, and that you may know a healing that issues in fresh service and joy. May the Lord comfort you after this wound, establish your heart in His Word, and in His good time, if it be His will, provide a path that is in full accord with His holy design.

We commend you to Him who alone can heal the wounded spirit, trusting that He who has begun a good work will perfect it till you shall be without spot or blemish before Him. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

I recently broke up with an ex-boyfriend due to the relationship being out of God's will and us being very unequally yoked but for certain reasons, the end of the relationship (and it seems the end of our friendship along with it as well) is really difficult. Please pray for me. Thank you.
