Ex-boyfriend

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I recently broke up with an ex-boyfriend due to the relationship being out of God's will and us being very unequally yoked but for certain reasons, the end of the relationship (and it seems the end of our friendship along with it as well) is really difficult. Please pray for me. Thank you.

We hear your heart and the pain that comes with walking away from a relationship that was not aligned with God’s will. It is never easy to let go, even when we know it is the right thing to do. The Lord sees your obedience in choosing His ways over your own desires, and He honors that. Scripture tells us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). You made a courageous decision to honor God, and though the loss feels heavy now, He is faithful to heal and restore.

We must also gently address the reality of what this relationship was. While your intention to honor God is commendable, we must acknowledge that any romantic involvement outside of marriage, especially with someone who does not share your faith, is not part of God’s design. The Bible calls this fornication, and it is a sin that grieves the heart of God (1 Corinthians 6:18). We do not say this to shame you, but to remind you that God’s boundaries are for your protection and blessing. His ways are higher, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Now, as you grieve the loss of this relationship and the friendship that came with it, we want to encourage you to turn fully to the Lord. He is the only One who can fill the void in your heart. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Run to Him, not to the memories of what was, but to the hope of what He has for you. The enemy would love to keep you bound in sadness or even temptation to return to this person, but we rebuke that lie in Jesus’ name. You are set free by the blood of Christ, and no weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

We also want to pray for you now. Father God, we come before You on behalf of our sister who is hurting. Lord, You see the pain in her heart, and You know the sacrifice she has made to walk in obedience to You. We ask that You would comfort her in ways that only You can. Heal the places that feel broken, and replace the sorrow with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Help her to release this relationship fully into Your hands, trusting that You have something far better for her. Guard her heart from loneliness and from the temptation to return to what was not of You. Fill her with Your presence, Lord, and remind her daily of Your love and faithfulness. Surround her with godly friendships and mentors who will encourage her in her walk with You. We declare that she is not defined by this past relationship but by who You say she is, beloved, chosen, and set apart for Your purposes. Strengthen her resolve to seek You above all else, and prepare her heart for the godly spouse You have for her in Your perfect timing. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every other name, the only name by which we are saved and have access to You. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and in fellowship with other believers. Spend time in worship, allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to your heart. Consider fasting from social media or anything that might tempt you to dwell on this past relationship. Instead, fill your mind with truth. Write down Scriptures that speak to God’s promises for you, and declare them over your life daily. You are not alone in this journey. The Lord is with you, and so are we, standing in agreement for your healing and restoration.

Lastly, if you have not already, we urge you to examine your relationship with Jesus Christ. Have you surrendered your life fully to Him? Have you confessed Him as your Lord and Savior? If not, we want to share the good news with you. The Bible tells us, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not made that decision, we invite you to do so today. Confess your sins, turn away from them, and ask Jesus to come into your heart. He is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). This is the first and most important step in living a life that honors God.

Thank you for letting us pray with you. We hear both the clarity and the ache in what you shared. Choosing to step away because you knew it was not right before God takes real courage, and it makes sense that it still hurts deeply. When a friendship ends alongside the romance, it can feel like a double loss, and grief does not mean you made the wrong choice.

In this early season it can help to give yourself permission to grieve without trying to hold the friendship together right away. Many find it steadier to create some clear space for a while rather than staying in daily contact that keeps reopening the wound. It may help to name one or two trusted people, perhaps a mature friend, mentor or small group in your church, who can check in with you regularly and pray with you face to face. Staying rooted in regular worship with other believers can also be a quiet anchor when loneliness rises.

We are praying for gentleness toward yourself as you heal and for wisdom for each next step.

Father, we bring our sister to You and ask You to surround her with Your nearness and peace. Comfort her in this grief, guard her heart and mind, and give her clear wisdom and supportive community in the days ahead. Lead her in Your will and restore her strength day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

We thank God for the grace that has enabled you to heed His word, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, and to step away from a path you discerned to be out of His will. It is never easy to obey when the heart is tenderly knit to another, and we do not make light of the sorrow you now feel over the ending both of the relationship and of the friendship that accompanied it. The Lord sees this grief, and He is near to them that are of a broken heart.

You thought perhaps that the yoke of Christ was hard when it called you to separate from an unequal yoking, but remember His own promise, My yoke is easy and My burden is light. The yoke which Christ lays upon His people is not grievous, though for a season it cuts across our affections. To bear His yoke is to walk side by side with Him, and He so adjusts it that we are not galled but guided and upheld. To have rejected that yoke would have brought a heavier and more bitter bondage. In choosing obedience you have chosen the better part, and though the severing pains you now, it will prove to be mercy.

There is healing for the wounded heart. Scripture says, He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. We very speedily seek a physician for bodily pain, but for this deeper wound there is only one true Physician. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue in it. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but even His leaves, His gentle presence, His smallest mercies, His quiet words in prayer and in the Word, are full of healing. Healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee, showing that pardon and healing are one in His hand. He that has begun a good work of grace in you will work health and cure till you are restored and made whole.

We have prayed for you, and we continue to pray, that the Sun of Righteousness may rise upon you with healing in His wings, that the Lord would bind up your broken heart with His own hand, for a real saving work is the work of God and God alone, and no human hand can do it so tenderly. We ask that He would give you peace in this obedience, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, keep you from returning to what you have rightly left, and teach you to find your full contentment in fellowship with Him. We pray that He would purify your affections, renew your strength through His Word and through faithful teaching, and in His own time and will, direct your steps according to His perfect wisdom. May you know that to be healed by Christ is to be made ready in due season to serve Him with a whole heart, for healing must come before serving, and He lifts up those He heals to walk in newness of life.

May the Lord grant you quietness of spirit, a settled trust in His goodness, and a deeper joy in Christ Himself, who will never leave you nor forsake you. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We thank you for sharing this honest and painful request, and we have brought it before the Lord with you.

It is right to grieve even a necessary ending. To step away from a relationship because you recognized it was out of God's will and unequally yoked is an act of obedience, and obedience can still carry sorrow. The loss of the romance and the loss of the friendship together can feel like a double wound, and it is natural that this would be difficult. God sees that grief and does not despise it.

We want to encourage you that your decision honors Him. Scripture calls believers to be joined in faith and purpose, and to reserve the intimacy of marriage for the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman. To walk away from what does not align with that is not failure but faithfulness, even when the heart aches afterward.

Healing in such seasons is often slow, like a physician applying medicine over time. You may hear truth many times and still feel the pain, and then one day find strength you did not have before. That is often how God works, building up gradually what was weakened. So do not be discouraged if the sorrow does not lift at once. Continue to fortify yourself by striking your roots deep in His word, in prayer, and in the fellowship of faithful believers, and by cleansing your life from what would pull you back into old patterns.

We are praying for you in this way:

Father, we thank You for this sister who has sought to obey You at cost to herself. Comfort her in this grief and give her peace that passes understanding. Heal the ache of this separation, guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and help her to keep healthy boundaries in the days ahead. Strengthen her to walk in purity and wisdom, surround her with godly community to support her, and draw her ever closer to Your Son, in whom alone is salvation and true hope. If it is Your will for her future, prepare her and a future spouse to share a faith that honors You, and until then, make her whole and joyful in You. In Jesus name, Amen.

If the sadness lingers, keep bringing it to the Lord, stay in the Scriptures daily, and lean on mature believers who can walk with you. If you find yourself tempted to return to what you knew was not God's will, remember the grace that led you to step away and ask Him for strength to remain steadfast. He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.
