Thank you for sharing so openly about what you have walked through and what is still weighing on your mind. What you describe is painful, and the decision you made to end a relationship that was unequally yoked was a faithful and wise one. Scripture is clear that a believer is not to be bound together with an unbeliever, and stepping away from that kind of union is obedience, not failure. Your further decision to cut off contact after manipulative and psychologically abusive behavior is also right. Abuse is never to be excused or explained away by trauma or struggles, even while we can pray for a person who is lost to come to know Jesus.

It helps to remember what it means to call Jesus Lord. If He is Lord, then we are His servants. That is not a harsh idea, but a freeing one. We belong to Him, we listen to His voice, and we follow His way. God created us for a meaningful and loving relationship with Himself, and for that love to be real He gave us free choice. He did not make us like robots who simply respond to a signal. He invites us to choose Him, to deny ourselves, to take up the cross and follow Jesus. When we do, He brings us into that close relationship where we know Him as Father. He does not want a distant ritual or a legal performance from you. He wants you to know how deeply He loves you and to love Him in return.

Your life turns on that vertical relationship with God. That is the center axis. When that relationship is in its right place, every other relationship begins to find its right place as well. That includes how you relate to people who have hurt you, how you relate to what others may say about you, and how you relate to the enemy of our souls. When the center is right, you will have victory when you meet the enemy, because you are standing with God. When the center is off, we can spend all our energy trying to fix one horizontal relationship while several others become more tangled. The better way is to come back to the vertical, to tend to your walk with God, and let Him bring balance to the rest.

That is especially important with the thoughts that keep coming back. You mentioned not knowing whether the coworker actually said those things or whether you were being triangulated, and that uncertainty can keep the mind racing. God knows the thoughts of our hearts, and He knows how empty and restless many of our thoughts can be. In the multitude of thoughts within us, His comforts can delight our soul. You do not need to chase down every comment or prove what was said. You can bring those looping thoughts to your Father and ask Him to quiet them with His presence and His truth. As you abide in Him, the fruit of peace and clarity will come as a natural consequence of that relationship, not as something you have to manufacture by effort. Jesus has already given you a righteous standing before God. You do not earn it. You live from it, serving Him in the newness of life.

It is also right to see the spiritual reality you mentioned without becoming consumed by it. The enemy does seek to use people and situations to discourage and accuse, but a right relationship with God puts that in its proper place. You do not need to live under fear of what others may be doing or saying. You can rest in your Father's care and let Him be your defender.

I will pray for you. Father, I thank You for this dear one who has chosen to obey You at great cost. I ask You to surround her with Your comfort as her thoughts race, to quiet her mind with Your peace, and to remind her that she is known and loved by You. Heal the wounds left by manipulation and abuse. Guard her as she keeps healthy boundaries and remains separate from what would pull her away from You. Give her discernment and strength to stay away from contact that harms her, and fill the space with Your presence. Draw her deeper into a loving, living relationship with You as her Father and her Lord, and let every other relationship in her life be ordered by that center. Lead her in Your wisdom for the future, and keep her close to Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen.

If intrusive thoughts continue to be heavy, keep bringing them quickly to the Lord in prayer, stay rooted in Scripture, and lean on trusted mature believers around you for support and accountability as you walk forward.
