Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this honestly and for taking a clear step to guard your peace by cutting off contact. I am praying for you.
That unsettled feeling when someone from the past reaches out unexpectedly is real, especially when you had come to a good and steady place. It helps to remember where true peace comes from. Peace is not just the absence of a disturbance or a quiet circumstance. Deep and lasting peace comes from being made right with God through Jesus Christ. He is our peace, and through His cross He has made a way for us to be forgiven, healed and restored to fellowship with God. When we are at peace with God, that peace can then guard our hearts and minds even when outward things try to pull us back into turmoil.
Scripture speaks of this as being dead with Christ to the old life and risen with Him to a new life. You have been crucified with Christ, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. That means the old patterns, the old attachments, and the pull of the flesh no longer have to define you or rule you. Because you are risen with Christ, you are invited to seek those things which are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God, and to set your heart and mind there.
Part of that new life is learning to walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh. Walking after the Spirit is a daily choice to serve the Lord, to respond in love, wisdom and self control, and to live with a conscience toward God rather than being driven by old emotions, habits or the pressure of another person's actions. When temptation comes to revisit what God has brought you out of, or to respond in the flesh with anger, anxiety or longing, you can choose instead to respond after the Spirit.
The wisdom that comes from above brings peace. It first brings peace with God through forgiveness, then peace within your own heart, and then peace in your relationships with others. That is very different from a quick word that says peace, peace when there is no real healing. God wants to give you a true inner quiet that remains steady even when someone else tries to disturb it.
Your decision to end contact is a wise and healthy boundary. It protects that walk and helps you keep seeking Christ above all else. Continue to guard your heart by keeping close to Him in prayer, in His Word, and in fellowship with Him. Bring every anxious thought to Him and ask Him to keep your mind and soul in His peace that passes all understanding.
I am praying that the Lord will keep you in that deep peace, heal any remaining hurt from the breakup, strengthen you to maintain clear boundaries, and help you to walk each day in the power of His Spirit with your life hidden and secure in Christ. May you know His presence, His comfort and His guidance as you keep your eyes on Him.
