Ex-boyfriend

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray that maybe I'll hear back from my ex-boyfriend today. I tried to check on him yesterday and he didn't respond. I lost my friend. I lost my best friend. đź’”

We hear the deep longing in your heart, and we want to come alongside you in prayer and truth. First, we must gently but firmly address the nature of this relationship. The Bible is clear that romantic relationships outside of marriage, whether past or present, are not God’s design. If this was a relationship that did not honor Him, we must acknowledge that it was not aligned with His will. The pain of loss you feel is real, but we must ask: Was this relationship built on a foundation of Christ, or was it rooted in something else?

Scripture tells us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). If your ex-boyfriend is not a believer, or if this relationship was not pursued with the intention of marriage under God’s covenant, then we must surrender this longing to the Lord. He may be sparing you from further heartache by closing this door.

We also must address the emotional dependency here. You called this person your "best friend," and that reveals how much of your identity and security may have been tied to him. Jesus alone is our true Best Friend, the One who will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). When we place our hope in people, even those we love, they will always disappoint us. But God never will.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sister who is grieving the loss of a relationship. Lord, we ask that You would first reveal to her the truth of where her hope should be placed, not in a person, but in You alone. Father, if this relationship was not of You, we ask that You would sever any ungodly soul ties and heal her heart completely. If there is any sin of idolatry, of placing this man above You, we repent on her behalf and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing.

Lord, we declare that You are her Best Friend, her Comforter, and her Provider. You know the ache in her heart, and we ask that You would fill that void with Your perfect peace. If it is Your will for reconciliation, we ask that You would open the door in a way that glorifies You. But if not, we pray for the strength to accept Your "no" as protection. Give her the courage to release this man into Your hands and to trust that You have someone far better for her, if marriage is Your plan.

We rebuke the spirit of loneliness and despair in Jesus’ name. We declare that she is never alone, for You are with her always. Surround her with godly community, and let her feel Your presence like never before. Heal her heart, Lord, and restore her joy. May she find her identity in You alone, and may she seek first Your kingdom in all things.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Friend, we encourage you to shift your focus from this man to the One who loves you unconditionally. Spend time in God’s Word, especially in the Psalms, where David poured out his heart to God in times of loneliness and despair. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." You are not forgotten. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe.

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. He is the only One who can truly satisfy your heart. Romans 10:9 says, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is a free gift, all you must do is receive it.

Lastly, consider seeking godly counsel from a pastor or mature Christian woman who can help you walk through this season. You do not have to carry this burden alone. We are praying for you, and we believe God has beautiful things ahead for you as you seek Him first.

We ache with you over the loss of someone who was not just a boyfriend but your best friend. The silence after reaching out can feel like a door slamming shut on a whole history of shared trust and inside jokes and being known. That kind of grief is heavy, and it’s okay to admit it hurts.

When the ache rises, and it will, try bringing it straight to Jesus. He knows what it is to be abandoned and to long for a heart that turned away. You don’t have to arrange your feelings first; just tell Him, honestly, what you miss and how empty today feels. He can carry the weight you’re carrying alone right now.

We are praying with you, not only that you might hear back, but that God would meet you in this lonely place with steady comfort, and that He would give you clarity and peace whatever comes. We ask Him to be the friend who stays when others go.

Lord Jesus, hold our friend close today. You see the unanswered message, the ache for a familiar voice, the empty space. Quiet the anxious hoping and fill the hollow places with Your presence. Give wisdom about whether to reach out again, and the grace to trust You with what You allow. Heal this grief, and in time, restore hope. In Your name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

The ache of a lost friend cuts deep, and the silence that follows a broken bond can feel like a cold, heavy stone upon the heart. You have tasted the bitterness of a friendship withdrawn, and the loneliness cries out for a word, a sign, that the breach might be healed. I do not stand aloof from that sorrow, for the human spirit yearns for its companion. Yet I must speak plainly from that well of truth which alone gives lasting water. The desire to hear from an earthly friend, even a best friend, is not wrong in itself, but it must be placed beneath a higher allegiance. Our Lord Jesus is the Friend who loves at all times, and when human ties are severed, His faithfulness becomes our sole and sufficient anchor.

Consider well the friend you seek. True friendship finds its root and its pattern not in the shifting sands of human emotion, but in the steadfast love of Christ. He is that Friend who sticks closer than a brother, proved not in ease, but in the house of sorrow; not by receiving, but by giving His own heart’s blood for you. If this earthly relationship was built upon any foundation other than the Law of God hidden in the heart, its crumbling, however painful, may be a severe mercy. The silence you face now is a loud call to lift your eyes from the broken cistern to the Fountain of living waters. Jesus Christ is the best of the best, the rose of Sharon whose fragrance never fades and whose beauty never diminishes. Has He become your own Friend? That is the question that presses upon your soul in this hour.

Do not think I dismiss your grief. The Savior Himself was acquainted with grief and was a man of sorrows; He knows what it is to be forsaken. But His cry, "You are holy," even amidst abandonment, teaches us our posture. The silence of an earthly friend must never be allowed to suggest any unfaithfulness in Him. It may be that unanswered prayer in this matter is a Fatherly chastisement, a careful prying of your fingers from a lesser good, or a strengthening exercise to make you useful in the future. Reconciliation with God Himself has been prepared on His part and is freely offered to you. The Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost, and He is the Friend who enters into tender sympathy with your case. Do not seek first the restoration of a human bond that runs counter to His design for marriage and purity. Instead, seek first reconciliation with God through Christ, and hide His Word in your heart. Then, standing in that peace, you will find He is, even now, your best Friend, and His friendship will never, never fail you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The sorrow you feel is indeed bitter, for a faithful friend is a strong defense, and the loss of such a companion cuts the heart. I know well the grace that a true friend leaves in the places they have walked, and the tears that fall in their absence. Yet I must ask you: why do you look so earnestly for a message from this man, as though his reply could restore your soul? Do not set your hope on a creature, who today is and tomorrow is gone, but on the Creator, who alone is the unfailing friend.

Consider Him who called us His friends, not to exalt Himself, but out of love. When the soul makes Christ its Bridegroom, it rejoices even when human friendships fade, for He never departs. If you have God favorable to you, though all men together war against you, there is no harm. But if you cling to a broken friendship as your greatest good, you will remain pierced by every disappointment. The friend you seek may never return your call, but the Lord hears the cry of the humble.

Therefore, do not pray to hear again from your ex-boyfriend, as though your life depended on it. Pray instead that you may love the Lord your God with all your heart, and find in Him the friend who sticks closer than a brother. Entrust your loneliness to Him, and He will fill it with His presence. Let go of what you once held, that your hands may be free to receive the gifts He longs to give. For He is the Author of life, and in His friendship is the fullness of joy.

Human hearts break over lost things because we were made for connection and for permanence. What you are feeling right now, the hollow ache of a friendship that seems gone, is not trivial. It is real sorrow. But in moments like this, the sharp pain of a human loss can open our eyes to a deeper truth about being lost and being found.

We tend to think loss is only about what we had slipping away. The Scripture shows us a different picture. A shepherd loses a sheep, a woman loses a coin, a father loses a son. In each case, the value of what is lost becomes apparent not in its comfortable presence, but in the desperate search that follows. A coin has no use while it is lost in the dust. Its value is restored only when it is found and put back into the hand of its owner. Right now, your heart is searching. That impulse is not random. It reflects something true about how God himself pursues those who are astray.

Jesus was blunt about what it means to be lost. He said He came to seek and to save that which was lost. Not to admire the lost from a distance, not to wish them well, but to seek until He finds, and then to carry the found one home, rejoicing. The joy in those parables is never found in the straying. It erupts when the lost is found and restored. When a sinner is received by Him, that is the moment for celebration. The Father weeps not forever over a wandering son but runs to meet the one who turns toward home.

I urge you not to place the entire weight of your hope on a text message or a returned call. Set before you is a way of life and a way of deeper disappointment. That is not a harsh word; it is a merciful one. To seek great things for yourself in another person’s response is to seek what no human can reliably give. Our natural longing for love and peace can become a trap when it fastens onto a person who is not the source. Even the best human affection, if it takes the place of first love, turns into a quiet kind of slavery. You have been redeemed from that. You do not have to live as a slave to the fear of being forgotten.

If your ex-boyfriend will not speak to you today, you are still not cast out. Jesus receives sinners. That phrase should fill you with relief, not shame. He ate with them, walked with them, and pulled them up when they were faint and at their wits’ end. When the soul faints within you, when you stagger as if you are lost in a wilderness with no city to dwell in, cry out to Him. He leads the desperate ones forth by the right way. He led Israel through those dry places toward a city of habitation, and He will lead you through this valley of silence toward a habitation in His faithfulness, not in a human reply.

Do not let this grief make you lose your savor. Salt that has lost its tang is fit for nothing, neither for the soil nor for the heap. It is simply cast out and trodden underfoot. But a life preserved by Christ has a zest, a preserving influence, a distinct hope that the world does not understand. Hold onto that. You do not need to convince anyone of your worth or argue for your place. You are simply called to bear witness to the one who found you when you were lost and who purchases back what is His.

Your best friend, in the truest and most enduring sense, is the one who laid down His life for you while you were still lost. That friendship does not waver with a phone screen. Let your heart be steadied there. You are not alone in a dungeon of sorrow. The Lord hears, and He delivers out of all distresses. Even now, before any message arrives from a human voice, the rejoicing in heaven over you is not silenced.
