Dreams form Holy Spirit While Sleeping, Job 33:12-17; Joel 2:28, Numb 12:6

Father, we come as little children in faith, contrary to all we see and hear, and thank You, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Christ, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Rom 8:34. Again, as little children, "we know You can do all things,"Job 42:2, That "nothing shall be impossible with God," Luke 1:27, "The things impossible with man are possible with God," Mark 10:27. We ask, with this husband for his wife, You give her a dream, as it is written in Job 33:14, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds, 16 He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword." Again, as our father, Abraham, we are fully persuaded You are able to fulfill what You promise, Rom 4:21 as written in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old will dream dreams, your youth will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days," Joel 2:28-29. Father, with humble confidence, give her, them, us dreams and visions underlining your will for us in Christ Jesus, as You have done from ancient times on those saved Matt 1:20, Matt 2:12, and unsaved alike, Gen 20:3, Gen 31:24, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, until present and You will continue to though the future, Heb 13:8. Your arm is not too short, Num 11:23, especially to save, Isa 50:2, Isa 59:1. Thank You in in advance, Mark 11:24, Heb 11:6, Jesus' Name.

We stand in agreement with this heartfelt prayer, lifting up this husband and wife before the throne of grace, trusting in the Lord’s ability to speak in dreams and visions as He has done throughout Scripture. The Word of God indeed confirms that the Holy Spirit moves in mysterious and powerful ways, including through dreams in the night watches. Job 33:14-17 declares, "For God speaks, now one way, now another, though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit." We rejoice that the Lord is not limited by time or circumstance and that He still speaks today, just as He did in the days of Joel, when He promised, "I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions" (Joel 2:28).

We also affirm the truth that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. As Acts 4:12 reminds us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." It is the intercession of Christ, our Great High Priest, that makes our prayers acceptable before God, as Hebrews 7:25 assures us: "Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them." Without the mediation of Jesus, our prayers would be in vain, for no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

With this foundation, we boldly ask the Lord to grant this wife, and indeed, all who seek His face, a dream or vision from the Holy Spirit, one that aligns with His perfect will and brings clarity, conviction, and direction. We pray that such a dream would not be vague or confusing but would carry the unmistakable weight of divine authority, as seen in the dreams of Joseph (Matthew 1:20), the wise men (Matthew 2:12), and even Pharaoh’s servants (Genesis 40). May the Lord use this means to turn hearts away from sin, pride, and destruction, just as He did with Abimelech (Genesis 20:3) and Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4:5). We declare that His arm is not too short to save (Isaiah 50:2), nor is His ear too dull to hear (Isaiah 59:1), and we trust that He will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

We also take this moment to rebuke any spirit of doubt, unbelief, or confusion that may seek to hinder the reception of such a dream. The enemy would love to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) the work of the Holy Spirit in this matter, but we stand on the authority of Jesus’ name to bind every lying spirit and loose the peace, clarity, and revelation of God. We encourage this couple, and all who read this, to remain in a posture of humility, prayer, and expectancy, testing every dream against the Word of God (1 John 4:1) and seeking wise counsel from mature believers (Proverbs 11:14). Dreams from the Lord will always align with Scripture and bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), leading to repentance, obedience, and greater intimacy with Christ.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness to speak to Your children in ways they can understand. We ask that You would grant this wife a dream from Your Holy Spirit, one that brings conviction, comfort, direction, or correction as needed. May she wake with a clear sense of Your presence and purpose, and may this dream draw her, and her husband, closer to You. We pray for protection over her mind and heart as she sleeps, that no demonic influence would distort or counterfeit Your voice. Instead, let Your truth resound in her spirit, turning her from any path that leads to destruction and guiding her into the abundant life You have promised (John 10:10). We trust in Your sovereignty, knowing that You work all things together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). May this dream be a testament to Your love, Your power, and Your desire to communicate with Your people. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Your earnest prayer as little children coming in faith through Christ our great Intercessor is heard and well pleasing to God, for He is able to save forever those who come to God through Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for us.

We rejoice to see a husband praying for his wife according to the holy covenant of marriage wherein one man and one woman become one flesh for life, a union cemented by mutual love and choice, reflecting Christ and His Church. That you seek the Lord together is a mark of grace, and we would encourage you to continue in that way.

You have rightly remembered that God is sovereign and can do all things, and that nothing shall be impossible with Him. The Scriptures you cite are true. In Job we read, For God speaks now one way, now another, though none perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, as they slumber in their beds, He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit. In Numbers the Lord said He would make Himself known to a prophet in a vision and speak to him in a dream, and in Acts the Lord gave Paul a vision in the night to direct his steps into Macedonia. At Pentecost the promise of Joel was poured out, your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

Yet we must trace Divine Sovereignty in all such things and recognize God's hand according to His wisdom, not according to our prescribing. Divine Wisdom, dressed in robes of love and tenderness, invites us to run into her arms, but she does not always lead by dreams and visions. The sure guidance of which the Psalmist speaks, Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory, comes to us now most plainly through the infallible Word of God, through great principles infused in the heart that takes God for its Guide, such as to avoid everything that is evil, and through a gracious acquiescence in the Divine will. The Grace of God dethrones obstinacy and gives us in its place submission to the will of God, and by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance.

There is no attribute more comforting than Divine Sovereignty, for it teaches us that God need not work by miracle to deliver and direct His people. Divine interpositions of a miraculous sort would not of themselves convert the heart, and render calamity impossible would remove the distinction between sin and holiness. Yet how strikingly has God delivered us, not miraculously, but full of wonder for all that, by His providence and by His Spirit working through the Word. Haste, too, is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, and we must not in haste demand of the Lord a sign of our own choosing.

Would you have dreams and visions underlining His will in Christ Jesus, seek first the more sure word of prophecy, the Scriptures which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The Lord Jesus is engaged as the great Defender of His Church, and with what pleading power He points to His wounds before the Father. If you can lay hold upon Him by faith, having once drawn upon the great bank of Divine Mercy, you may go again with the same promise and get as much from the liberal hand of God as before. Bring your petitions with humble confidence, as you have done, but leave the manner of answer to His infinite affection and wisdom, trusting that His arm is not too short to save.

We will pray with you that the Lord, if it please Him, would speak to your wife and to you both, whether by night or by day, but chiefly that He would speak by His Word and Spirit to turn you from wrongdoing, keep you from pride, preserve you from the pit, and establish you in the way everlasting. May He grant you clear understanding of His will, a submissive heart to follow it, and a settled peace that whether He answers by a dream, by a providence, or by the still small voice of Scripture, you will hear and obey.

We entreat the Lord to keep your marriage in holiness, to cause you to walk in the light of His counsel, and to receive you at last to glory through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we ask all things according to the Father's good pleasure.
