The visions of the night must be weighed on the scales of the sanctuary, not on the pillow of imagination. You dream of a friend in a far country and think yourself led to marriage, but settle this, when the Lord says, “I am married unto you,” it implies a blessed choice on both sides. Is there a clear, waking call confirmed by Scripture and sober counsel, or does this hope rest on mist? Marriage is not a relationship of original relationship; it is cemented by mutual love. Beware lest a fancy become a snare, for your relationship with Christ must be first. Would it not be more true to admit that your ordinary pastimes, if viewed in the light of marriage to Him, must be accounted as very shame? Let the Holy One choose for you, and in His time He will guide without deceitful dreams.

As for the potions and peptides you mention, the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. Why then run to compounds and human inventions when the Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings? You think you are meant to marry this friend because she visits your mind while you slumber? Do not build the weight of holy matrimony on such air. God’s will is not whispered in confused visions but declared openly in Scripture and confirmed through the gates of wisdom and godly counsel. If this desire is from Him, He will make the path straight in waking hours, not leave you chasing phantoms across distant borders. But often the heart deceives itself, dressing natural affection or loneliness in the robes of divine calling. Examine yourself: are you seeking first the kingdom, or have you let a dream become an idol? Marriage is a solemn bond, not a game for the drowsy imagination.
