Down

Do not say that you are worthless, for this is a lie the enemy whispers to keep you idle. The Apostle Paul commands, "If anyone will not work, neither let him eat," not to crush you, but to rouse you from sloth that feeds despair. Stir yourself to seek employment with diligence, and in that labor you will find a measure of cheerfulness.

But why do you give your leisure to the trifles and filth of the online world, which are no better than the theatres of Satan? There the multitude pass the whole day, and retain every poison they have heard, while they cannot bear to tarry even a little time where God speaks. You trample precious things underfoot when you fill your mind with the unclean spirits of worldly amusement. Learn instead to sing psalms, and you will see the delightfulness of the employment. For they who sing psalms are filled with the Holy Spirit, as they who drink from those polluted streams are filled with darkness.

Bear the reproach you feel within, even if it seems unjust, as a tutor's discipline that trains you. And to you who are tempted to despair, I say, be not weary in well doing. God does not abandon the contrite heart. Turn from those online snares, and give even a little time to the words of God. Out of these opposites, your labor against idleness and your spiritual drink against worldly poison, He will work a wholesome restoration. Rise up, then, and let not your hands be idle, nor your heart neglect the psalms that bring the Spirit.

The weight you are carrying right now is heavy, and the darkness that whispers worthlessness and failure can feel overwhelming. But the very fact that you long to be restored spiritually tells me something true about you. Your heart is yearning for Jesus himself, not just for relief from the depression or for a job. When the heart is truly longing for him, nothing else will satisfy, and that ache you feel is not a sign that you have failed him beyond repair. It is the cry of someone who belongs to him and knows that only his presence will do.

Jesus never turns away the person who comes to him in desperate need. Think of the man with the withered hand who sat in the synagogue. Everyone there associated Jesus with the one who had the greatest need. They simply knew, instinctively, that Jesus would be drawn to him and want to help him. They were right. Jesus is always drawn to those who are broken, to those who feel useless, to those who have nothing to offer. Your current lack of work and the feelings of worthlessness that have followed do not repel him. They are exactly the kind of need that attracts his compassion. He is not looking for your usefulness; he is looking for your trust.

The ministry of Jesus was always a ministry of restoration. He restored bodies wrecked by disease and lives wrecked by sin, giving new hope to those who were sitting in darkness. This is what he wants to do in you right now. The depression and the struggles with things online are not beyond his reach. When the disciples had fished all night and caught nothing, Jesus came to them in the morning. He knew exactly what had happened. He did not scold them for their empty nets or their exhaustion. He simply gave a command, and the command itself carried the power to bring in the catch. One man, obeying that single word, drew a net full of fish that a whole crew could not handle moments before. The strength of his commands is enough. When he tells you to rise, to let go of shame, to follow him again, the very fact that he has spoken it gives you the ability to do it.

Feeling like you have failed Jesus is a deep grief, but do not let it drive you away from him. Remember Peter. After he had denied the Lord so completely, Jesus came to him on the shore. Jesus used Peter’s own weaker word for love, stooping to his level to draw him back. It hurt Peter to realize that Jesus had to meet him there, but Jesus did it anyway. He did not cast Peter aside. He restored him and commissioned him. Your Savior knows the limits of your love and the reality of your weakness far better than you do, and he still steps toward you. He does not require a bold, unshakable faith before he will help you. Like the woman reached out in the crowd, even a trembling touch of his garment is met with his power.

Do not let the enemy convince you that your worth is tied to your work or your ability to avoid a screen. Your worth is found in the fact that Jesus gave himself for you. There is only one provision for your sin and your failure, and it is found in him alone. He is not waiting for you to fix yourself before you come. He is standing on the shore of your life right now, knowing exactly what has happened during this long, dark night, and he is calling you to let down the nets once more. Bring the exhaustion, bring the shame, bring the worthlessness, and lay it all down. Restoration is his work, and he is faithful to complete it. May he quiet the accusing voices and let you hear only his voice, the voice that commands the darkness to loose you and let you go free.

We want you to know how deeply we have carried your heart before the Lord these past days. Your honesty about the weight of depression, the ache of unemployment, and the spiritual battle you’re walking through has moved us to pray with even greater fervency. We’ve asked our Father to lift the heaviness from your soul, to open doors of provision that no man can shut, and to remind you in the quietest moments that His love for you is not measured by your productivity or success.

We’ve stood in the gap, pleading for the Holy Spirit to flood your spirit with fresh hope, to silence the lies of worthlessness with the truth of His Word, and to restore the joy of your salvation. We’ve asked God to show you tangible signs of His faithfulness—whether through unexpected encouragement, a renewed sense of purpose, or even small victories in your daily walk. And we’ve prayed for protection over your mind and heart, especially in the online spaces that have brought such struggle, that you would be shielded from discouragement and drawn closer to Christ.

If the Lord has already begun to answer these prayers—if you’ve sensed His nearness, received a breakthrough, or simply felt a shift in your spirit—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be the very encouragement someone else needs to keep pressing in. But if the burden still feels heavy and the answers seem distant, please don’t hesitate to share your request again. We are committed to standing with you, lifting you up, and trusting God’s perfect timing together.

May the Lord wrap you in His peace as you seek Him, reminding you that your worth is found in Christ alone and that He is working all things for your good. We continue to pray that His light would break through the darkness, His provision would meet every need, and His grace would cover every moment of doubt. In Jesus’ Name.
