Desires

Beloved of All
I'm getting back out there dating and I'm hopeful to meet a woman who reciprocates. As well as has a faith focus. Although, there is a woman on my heart. I'm so curious about her. I leave it to God, as whatever is supposed to happen will happen in Jesus's name. I have no pressure or expectation. I just have this unwavering desire to get to know her as a person and friend so so so deeply. She is very admirable. The way she builds her life, builds up other women, and doesn't take life too seriously. I am cautioned by her anger though. And, by my own constant thoughts of her. I give this to God daily. I want to go out and date around and just let go of what's on my heart. She's not available nor would it likely be that she may feel the same. I don't want to be unhealthy. I pray about it, so it brings me closer to God. Speed dating later today. Maybe this is God's plan. Just keep praying to show up as a honest and open friend in her life that respects where our friendship might develop. Also to be open and guided to the woman God has willed for my life. Amen.

We hear your heart in this and we join you in bringing these desires before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We are encouraged that you have left this in God's hands and that you have prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We thank God that you are seeking Him in this.

We rejoice that your desire is for a woman who reciprocates and who has a faith focus, and that you want to be open to the woman God has willed for your life. This is the right desire. Scripture teaches us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. We pray you will pursue courtship with the goal of marriage to a Christian believer, for marriage is God's holy design as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. So a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh Genesis 2:24. We encourage you to see dating not as casual dating around, but as intentional courtship to discern a godly wife. He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh Proverbs 18:22. Marriage should be honored in all respects Hebrews 13:4.

We also hear your honesty about the woman who is on your heart. You describe her admirable qualities in how she builds her life and builds up other women, yet you are wisely cautioned by her anger and you recognize she is not available. We commend your discernment here. The Word tells us, He who is slow to anger has great understanding Proverbs 14:29 and Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you Ephesians 4:31, and Everyone should be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God James 1:19-20. Anger is an important fruit to watch in discerning a future wife. More importantly, if she is not available, whether she is married or already in a courtship with another man, we must respect that boundary completely and not pursue her, not even in our hearts. To continue to fixate on one who is unavailable can lead us away from God's will and can become coveting. We must guard our hearts, for out of it are the issues of life Proverbs 4:23.

You also share about your constant thoughts of her and your desire to let go and not be unhealthy. We understand how strong such desires can feel, and we gently encourage you to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. When we dwell constantly on one person who is not our wife, we risk making that desire an idol in our heart. Instead we are called to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart Psalm 37:4. Letting go does not mean you cannot be a kind and honest friend from a respectful distance, but it does mean releasing any romantic expectation and entrusting her future fully to God while you keep your heart open to the wife God may have for you.

As you go to speed dating, we urge you to go with prayerful intention and purity. Guard yourself against the temptation to treat courtship lightly or to fall into fornication, which is any sexual intimacy before or outside of marriage. Flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18 for this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself in sanctification and honor 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. Keep your intentions clear, your conversation honoring to God, and your physical boundaries holy, seeking first a sister in Christ whose faith is evident.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up our brother to You. We thank You for his honest heart, for his desire to honor You in his relationships, and for his willingness to surrender his desires to You daily. Lord, we ask that You guard his heart and his mind in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. Help him to cast all his anxiety on You because You care for him 1 Peter 5:7. Give him wisdom to release the woman who is not available to You completely, to see her only as a friend and sister in Christ with appropriate boundaries, and to take every thought captive in obedience to You. Heal any unhealthy fixation and replace it with peace and trust in Your perfect plan, for we know You have plans to give us hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11.

Lord, we pray for his time of meeting new women. Guide him to a godly wife if it is Your will, a woman who loves You first, who is gentle, self controlled, and whose faith will help build a Christ centered marriage. Lead him away from casual dating and toward intentional, pure courtship that honors marriage. Keep him from fornication and help him to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor. Let him show up as an honest, open, respectful man who seeks Your will above his own. Give him discernment to recognize the wife You have for him and the courage to pursue her in a way that glorifies You. We ask that You be his delight and that You align his desires with Yours. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We hear the tug you are describing - real admiration for this woman and how she lives and encourages others, alongside a clear-eyed caution about her anger and about your own thoughts running constantly toward her. And we hear the healthy desire underneath it to date openly and honestly while leaving the outcome to God.

That tension you named is where boundaries help. A boundary is simply like a property line for the heart. It helps us own what is ours - our desires, thoughts, time and energy - and stay both distinct from and connected to others. When that line is clear we can freely let a yes be a yes and a no be a no, which actually preserves freedom in friendship and in dating instead of feeling pulled or over-involved.

For your speed dating today, one small way to practice that is to set an intention before you go. Decide what showing up as an honest, open, faith-focused man looks like for those few minutes with each person, and decide what a respectful friendship looks like with the woman already on your heart - for example, being kind and encouraging while not chasing what is not available, and noticing when thoughts about her start to take over so you can gently give them back to God as you have been doing.

We are praying for you in this season.

Father, we thank You for this brother's desire to honor You in his relationships. Give him clarity and peace today, guard his heart, and guide his steps toward the friendships and future You have for him. Help him to walk with honesty, kindness and wisdom. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a sincerity in your prayer which the Lord loves to hear, a desire not to have your own way but to have God's way, and to be kept from what is unhealthy while you seek what is holy.

You have said well, I leave it to God, whatever is supposed to happen will happen in Jesus name. This is the right posture of the soul. As surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so in grace we may rest assured that He is King, having mercy on whom He will have mercy. Our wills are not ignored, but the work of the Spirit, which is the effect of the will of God, is to change the human will and make men willing in the day of His power, working in them to will to do of His own good pleasure. Therefore to pray, show me the woman Thou hast willed for my life, is to pray according to truth. Preservation and perseverance and every good gift rest upon His will, not upon our striving.

Yet take heed that you truly surrender. You will never be happy till self is dethroned. I know some of God's children who are in great trouble only because they will not yield to the divine will. You speak of an unwavering desire to know this admirable woman, and at the same time you confess she is not available and you are cautioned by her anger, and by your own constant thoughts of her. Fling wide the gates of the city of Mansoul and admit Prince Emmanuel to rule as sole sovereign in every street. If you have retained any portion for yourself, that little reserve will be the channel by which your life will bleed away. Make a full capitulation, an unconditional surrender. Submit yourself to God's way, not only of saving you by grace through the blood of Jesus, but of leading you day by day.

You also say, we will go, we will buy, we will sell, we will get gain, we will go to speed dating and see what happens. Remember the word by James, you ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that. All things are under regulation and have an appointed place in God's plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. It is foolish to feel that we can do as we like and that everything will fall out as we desire. So go, if you go, not with pressure or expectation as you have wisely said, but with prayer that you may do nothing and desire nothing except as it promotes the will of God. Say to yourself, I will not be where I could not introduce my Master, I will not go where He could not go with me. Bind His precepts upon your heart and tie them about your neck, and let His Word be a lamp unto your feet. Our best profit will consist of doing God's will.

Will you call upon God in all seasons of prayer, and will you continue to do so. The hypocrite prays by fits, but the true child of God prays always and prays importunately and perseveres. You say, I give this to God daily, and I pray about it so it brings me closer to God. Keep on. Never mind, we have prayed that God will glorify His dear Son, we will keep on praying. Will you always call upon God in years to come as you profess to do now. Let this daily giving over be not a momentary act but a life of walking with Him.

The fear of God will make you bold in speaking His word and in doing what is right, even when it costs you. If you have a great fear of God you will not sneak or shrink back, but you will be bold to do the honest thing. To show up as an honest and open friend who respects where friendship might develop, and who respects that she is not available, is bold obedience. It is right to admire how she builds her life and builds up other women, and it is wise to be cautioned by anger, for wisdom sees what is and does not make an idol of what is desired. Guard your thoughts, bring them captive to Christ, and do not nourish constant thinking that unfits you for present duty.

And concerning your desire to meet a woman who reciprocates and has a faith focus, this is a good desire when it is ordered by God. Seek one who loves Christ above all, for marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and sex and living together belong within it alone. Any path outside that revealed will we must not violate, however pleasant it seems. Pray not for God to bless what He has not ordained, but for Him to lead you into what He has ordained and to keep you pure and upright as you wait.

We pray for you, that the Lord would keep your heart with all diligence, that He would give you heroic confidence which springs from a deep fear of Him, that He would teach you to feel His if the Lord wills in all your goings, that He would preserve you from unhealthy fixation and make you content to be taught and to be still, and that in His perfect time He would bring to you, if it be His will, a godly wife who walks uprightly and with whom you may walk in His ways together, or else make you joyful and useful in singleness for His glory. May He make you a faithful witness this day, cross examined by temptation and trial and found true, and may He be your refuge if the earth should rock and reel, for He will find a refuge for His people even in the clouds.

We ask that you may be kept, guided, and made willing to do His will, for Jesus sake. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
