Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me as I am considering getting a prescription for depression from my doctor. We had discussed me getting this years ago when my sister passed away and I was depressed but I guess I ended up not needing them so never brought it up again. But I have now hit a place in my life where I am truly depressed and extremely suicidal and have been struggling for a while. I genuinely wish that God would kill me. I see no purpose in my life whatsoever. I am just a punching bag - God's punching bag and everyone else's. My life has been sad and miserable. Satan beats me down relentlessly and there is never any silver lining. I have no idea why God allowed me to be born. I feel that taking medication would numb what I am going through and at least allow me to continue on with life. I do not want to risk being overly reliant on medication or opening myself up to demonic influence due to being medicated when I don't need to be but I can't take any of this anymore. Thank you.

We hear the depth of your pain, and our hearts ache with you. The weight of depression and the torment of suicidal thoughts are not things to bear alone, and we stand with you before the Lord, lifting you up in fervent prayer. First and foremost, we want to remind you that your life has immense value in the eyes of God. You are not a punching bag, you are His beloved creation, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14). Even in the darkness, He sees you, knows your struggles, and longs to draw near to you (Psalm 34:18).

Your feelings of hopelessness and despair are real, and we do not dismiss them. But we must also speak truth into this situation: Satan is indeed a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), and his goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He wants you to believe that your life has no purpose, that God has abandoned you, or that death is the only escape. But Scripture tells us that God has plans for you, plans for good and not for harm, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Even when you cannot see it, God is working, and He is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).

We understand your consideration of medication, and we want to affirm that seeking help, whether through medical professionals, counseling, or both, is not a sign of weakness but of wisdom. The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and caring for them includes seeking healing when we are unwell. Depression is a real illness, not a moral failing, and medication can be a tool that God uses to bring relief and clarity. However, we also encourage you to seek godly counsel, including from a Christian therapist or pastor, who can help you navigate this decision with wisdom and discernment. Prayerfully consider whether medication is the right step for you, and trust that God can guide you in this.

But we must also address the spiritual battle you are facing. The enemy is relentless in his attacks, but we serve a God who is greater (1 John 4:4). We rebuke the spirit of despair and suicide in the name of Jesus Christ. We command it to loose its grip on your mind and heart, and we declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). You are not alone in this fight. The Lord is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We encourage you to cling to Him, even when it feels impossible. Cry out to Him in your pain, for He hears the prayers of the broken (Psalm 51:17).

We also want to gently remind you that your salvation and relationship with God are foundational to overcoming this battle. If you have not already, we urge you to surrender your life fully to Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have already placed your faith in Him, we encourage you to draw near to Him through prayer, Scripture, and fellowship with other believers. The enemy wants to isolate you, but God calls you into community. Do not withdraw from those who love you, let them walk alongside you in this season.

We pray for you now, lifting your name before the throne of grace:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is struggling under the weight of depression and despair. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who heals. We ask that You would break the chains of darkness that have wrapped around their mind and heart. Shine Your light into the deepest places of their pain, and let them feel Your presence in a tangible way. Father, we rebuke the spirit of suicide and hopelessness in the name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and we ask that You would surround them with Your angels to guard and protect them.

Lord, we pray for wisdom as they consider seeking medical help. Guide their steps and lead them to the right resources, whether it be medication, counseling, or both. Give them the courage to reach out to others and not bear this burden alone. Father, we ask that You would bring godly people into their life who can speak truth, offer support, and point them back to You. Help them to see their worth through Your eyes, not through the lies of the enemy.

We pray for healing, Lord, healing of their mind, healing of their emotions, and healing of their spirit. Restore their hope and remind them that You have a purpose for their life, even when they cannot see it. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let them know that You are with them always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Friend, we want you to know that you are not forgotten. You are loved deeply by God, and He has not abandoned you. We encourage you to take one step at a time, whether that step is reaching out to your doctor, calling a trusted friend, or simply crying out to God in prayer. You do not have to carry this alone. If you are in immediate danger of harming yourself, please reach out to someone you trust or contact a crisis hotline in your area. Your life matters, and God has a plan for you, even in this darkness. Hold on. We are praying for you.

Before anything else, please hear this: if you are in immediate danger right now, reach out to your local emergency services. For free, confidential support at any hour, you can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. You do not have to carry this alone, and trained people are ready to listen right now.

We hear how much pain is behind your words, and we are so sorry. The loss of your sister, the relentless sense of being beaten down, and the exhaustion of seeing no purpose, all of that matters, and you should not have to navigate it in isolation. Your feeling of being a punching bag is real to you right now, but it is not the truth about who you are to God. When our minds are this low, they often tell us terrible, distorted things about ourselves and even about the Lord's heart toward us.

Depression is a complex condition, not a sign of weak faith or a character flaw. Seeking medical help is not a spiritual failure, and taking prescribed medication for a medical struggle does not open you to demonic influence, it is simply caring for the body and brain God gave you. Many of us have walked with people who were profoundly helped when medication lifted the heaviest fog enough for them to breathe and begin healing in other ways. It is not about numbing; it is about stabilizing so you can find your footing again.

A concrete next step: make that appointment with your doctor, and be completely honest about how dark things have become, tell them what you have told us here, including the suicidal thoughts. Let them help you evaluate what support fits best right now. You deserve that care.

Lord Jesus, in Your mercy, lift the crushing weight even a little so this person can see one next step. Quiet the lies that say their life is worthless. Surround them with people who will show up and stay. Protect them, and give them courage to reach for the help that is already waiting. In Your name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

These words you have written come from a heart in sore travail, and I know their sound, for I have myself in seasons of deep depression of spirit uttered complaints I now abhor and loathe before the Lord. In such darkness the soul cries out, “God’s punching bag,” and wishes for death. Yet this is pain speaking, not faith. I pray the Lord, in His great mercy, to look at those thoughts as though you had never thought them, for they are but the hasty expressions of a wounded soul that has questioned His tender love and gracious care. You are not forgotten, nor is your life a purposeless accident. His mind is one; none of these things cometh by chance, none happeneth out of order, but everything is according to the purpose of His own will. He is carrying out a purpose, even when you cannot trace it.

Satan knows how to tempt us and he almost always begins at the most favorable moment for his evil purpose, when we are hungry with grief, weary with the fight, he whispers that we are only a burden and that God has cast us off. Resist him. A consciousness of the possession of Jesus would have such an overcoming effect upon the heart that you would forget your hopelessness. Seek Him. Plead with God: shall Christ die to no purpose? Shall the Gospel be preached in vain? Lay hold of His covenant.

As for the medicine, wisdom must be sought. The body weighed down by sorrow may need temporal relief, and I would not forbid that mercy. But let it not be a hiding place from the soul’s true necessity, fresh dealings with Christ. Be not overly fearful of demonic influence, yet be not thoughtless; commit the matter to God with prayer and the counsel of the godly. Half the power of a Christian life depends upon its being timely, and perhaps this consideration has come in a timely hour. Do not act in haste or despair, but wait on the Lord, who does all things well. Your life is not your own to cast aside; He who gave it has a design in its every stroke.
