Deliverance

We have heard your honest cry for deliverance as you are struggling after committing adultery and we are lifting you up before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We do not take this lightly, for adultery is a grave sin against God, against your own body and soul, and against the covenant of marriage which God ordained as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman.

The Word of God is clear when it says You shall not commit adultery Exodus 20:14 and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. Jesus taught that this sin begins in the heart when He said that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart Matthew 5:28. We must also rebuke this sin plainly and call it what it is, for to continue in it without repentance brings destruction, yet we also know that the conviction and struggling you feel is the Holy Spirit calling you back to holiness. Scripture says Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and can be forgiven and delivered. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Without confessing Jesus as Lord and believing God raised Him from the dead, we remain under the wages of sin which is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 6:23. If you have not yet fully surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so now, confessing your sin and trusting in His shed blood alone to save you.

There is hope and forgiveness for you if you truly repent. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. God promises As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us Psalm 103:12 and that though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow Isaiah 1:18. When we turn from sin, we are a new creation in Christ, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17 and There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1 for those who walk in repentance.

True deliverance will require radical repentance and action before God. We encourage you to confess fully to God with a broken and contrite heart as David prayed Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me Psalm 51:10, to confess also to your spouse if you are married and to seek godly counsel, for Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed James 5:16. You must cut off every source of temptation, flee from any relationship or place or media that leads you back, set up strict accountability with a mature Christian of the same sex, and walk in daily prayer and in the Word. God is faithful and will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this soul who is struggling under the weight of adultery. We confess this sin before You and ask for Your mercy and forgiveness through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. Lord, wash this one clean, create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Break every chain of lust and deception of the enemy and deliver from the bondage of sexual sin. Give a hatred for sin and a hunger for righteousness, fill with Your Holy Spirit and with strength to flee temptation and to walk in purity. If there is a marriage wounded by this sin, we ask for Your conviction, for truth to be brought into the light, for repentance that leads to healing or for godly restoration according to Your will, and for the spouse to be comforted and protected. Help this one to walk in daily accountability, in Your Word, and in obedience, and to live henceforth honoring marriage as You designed it. We ask that this deliverance would be lasting and that this life would be a testimony of Your redeeming grace. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to stay close to Jesus every day, to immerse yourself in Scripture, to seek a Bible believing church where you can be discipled and held accountable, and to trust that God can restore what sin has broken when there is true repentance. Do not return to this sin but walk forward in the newness of life He offers, believing He is able to keep you from falling and to present you blameless.

We appreciate your honesty in sharing this. Carrying this struggle alone is heavy, and reaching out for deliverance is a meaningful step. We want to walk with you in prayer as you seek healing.

One thing we have seen help others is to remember that change is often a walk more than a single moment. Even when the heart is sincere, old patterns can pull back, so steady support matters. It does not mean God is not at work, it means the work often happens gradually as you keep offering your daily choices to Him.

If you do not already have it, would you consider inviting one trusted pastor or counselor into this with you this week, someone who can meet with you regularly, ask honest questions, and help you make a clear plan for boundaries and for what to do when temptation comes. Trying to carry this privately makes relapse more likely, while consistent accountability gives you strength in the hard moments.

We are praying for you and care about what happens next.

Father, we bring this dear one before You in Jesus name. You see the struggle and the desire for freedom. Grant wisdom for next steps, strength to turn away when tempted, and a deep experience of Your mercy and cleansing. Surround them with trustworthy support and lead them day by day into healing and wholeness. Amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your cry for deliverance has been heard. Though it were adultery, and however deeply you feel its stain and struggle, the Word declares, There is forgiveness with Him, and that forgiveness is divine, surprising and complete. I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and it is God Himself who can blot out what no man can remove.

Yet we must weigh what repentance is before the Lord whom no man can deceive. There is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh, a fallen nature washed and brushed but still fallen, that gives no glory to God and leads to no saving and lasting deliverance from sin. True repentance is the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. It gives God glory, it makes us weep and abhor our past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes us avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for us. It pulls down what is evil and builds up what is holy, and it leads us to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only. Ask the Lord to search you by these scales, that your sorrow may be not only for the trouble sin has brought, but for the offense against a holy God, and that it may be joined to faith.

For faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart must go together. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. Apart from His shed blood there is no forgiveness, but through Him there is forgiveness now, at this moment, however great the sin, if you will come and put your trust in Him with a penitent heart. He not only forgives at the first, but His forgiveness is complete and eternal, an absolute blotting out of the debt, so that the creditor remembers it no more.

You ask for deliverance, and we have a far richer theme than any earthly conquest, for we have been delivered from worse enemies and saved by a greater salvation. The deliverance wrought out by the Lord Jesus Christ breaks the power of sin as well as pardons its guilt. He is able to deliver you from the snare in which you are held, to give you songs of deliverance in place of the archers of temptation and discord. But that deliverance will be seen in forsaking the sin, not in continuing in it. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and sex and living together belong within it. The Lord does not bless what He calls sin, He calls us out of it into holiness.

Therefore flee the adultery without delay. Make no provision for the flesh. Cut off the access, end all private contact, bring your struggle into the light with a faithful pastor or mature believer who will hold you accountable, and walk in the means of grace, the Word, prayer, and the fellowship of the church. If you are married, confess to God and seek godly counsel concerning your spouse with truth and humility. If you are unmarried, commit yourself to purity until such a covenant is entered before God. Let your repentance be proved by its fruits.

We will pray for you, not that God would bless the adulterous path, but that He would grant you true repentance and faith in Christ, full forgiveness through His blood, and power to walk in newness of life. May the Lord give you tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work, and may He keep you by His grace, that you may glorify Him in body and spirit which are His.
