The prayer of a mother for her child is a mighty plea, and you do well to bring your son before the throne of mercy. Let not your heart be troubled, nor your hope grow dim. Consider how the woman of Canaan cried out for her daughter, and though the Lord seemed to delay, she would not be silenced. Her persistence was not a nuisance but a proof of faith, and He granted her request, saying, “Great is your faith.” So press on, and do not grow weary. Even if the healing tarries, each prayer is like a stroke upon a tree; the final blow that brings it down is made effective by all that came before. Trust that God’s ear is not heavy that it cannot hear, nor His arm shortened that it cannot save.

Yet remember that the body’s relief, though fervently sought, is not the greatest gift. The sickness of the soul is far more dreadful, and the breath of the Spirit is life eternal. While you ask for ease in this heat and freedom from inflammation, beg still more that your son’s heart be inflamed with love for Christ, and that he breathe deeply of the wind of heaven which blows where it wills. For if the Samaritan woman, after one conversation, became an apostle to her whole city, how much more should we, who have heard the gospel countless times, cling to Jesus and lead others to Him. Let this trial be the occasion for a stronger faith, not just for your son but for all who witness his struggle. The present suffering is light and momentary compared to the weight of glory prepared for those who love God. Continue to ask, seek, and knock; the door will be opened at the time appointed.

What a tender thing it is to hear a parent’s plea for their child. The Scriptures are filled with such cries, a father’s heart poured out for a son, a mother refusing to let go until Jesus answered. You stand in good company when you bring your son before the throne.

Think of Abraham, who was asked to offer his son, his only son, the one he loved. He knew something of the cost, but God provided. And in the fullness of time, our heavenly Father did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all. If He has already given us His greatest treasure, will He not also, with Christ, freely give us every help in time of need? You can bring asthma and COPD to that same Father and trust His goodness.

Sometimes we wrestle because we see our child struggling to breathe, and we long to take the burden. That love you feel is a faint echo of the Father’s love for His own. He is not distant. When sickness lingers, remember that the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He receives every son and daughter as His own. Affliction, in His hand, is not rejection but proof that we belong to Him. It can be a strange comfort, but it assures us we are not cast off.

I think of a mother who once came crying after Jesus, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is severely oppressed.” At first He seemed to turn away, but she would not be deterred. She moved from insisting on a title to falling in worship, “Lord, help me.” And her daughter was healed. Jesus was drawing her into a deeper trust, not from a distance but into the closeness of “Lord.” Keep pressing in that same way. You’ve already prayed in Jesus’ name, that is the right ground. Let your own heart be drawn from petition into worship, confident that He hears.

Wisdom says, “My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to your taste.” So is the knowledge of God’s truth to the soul. Feed on His promises; they are life and health. And as you entrust your son’s immune system and lungs to the Lord, remember that eternal life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; that life is unshaken by any virus or heat wave. Physical healing we ask for boldly, and we believe He is able. But even in the asking, we anchor ourselves in the deeper healing He has already secured.

May you know the Father’s nearness as you wait. He rejoices over your cries, and He will not let your hope be cut off.
