We join with you in lifting up this family before the Lord in this time of loss and we thank you for asking in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that salvation comes.
We pray for comfort and strength for your ex's father’s close ones and for all who mourn him. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted Matthew 5:4. We ask the Father of mercies and God of all comfort to comfort them in this affliction, so that they may know His presence and peace that surpasses all understanding 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Philippians 4:7.
We also bring their practical and financial needs before the Lord, for He knows what they need and He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1. We pray that God will supply every need of theirs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19 and that He will move on the hearts of His people to help and to show Christlike love in tangible ways.
Above all we agree with you in praying for their repentance and salvation, that this time of sorrow would turn many hearts toward eternity and toward Christ. We pray that they would confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in their heart that God raised him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation Romans 10:9-10. For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:13 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12.
We pray together, Father, we lift up this grieving family to You in the name of Jesus. Draw near to each one who is hurting, wrap them in Your comfort and give them strength for each day. Provide for their financial needs according to Your wisdom and mercy, and open doors for help and provision. Most of all, Lord, use this loss to open their eyes to the brevity of life and their need for You. Bring each one to repentance and to saving faith in Christ Jesus, that they may have hope beyond the grave and eternal life in Your presence. We ask that You would also give peace and wisdom to the one who submitted this request as they show compassion in a difficult situation, and guide all relationships according to Your perfect will. Your request has been heard and is carried with sorrow and prayer before the throne of grace. The loss of a father brings a deep wound to a family, and it is right to seek the Lord for those who mourn.
The word of the Lord says, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. This comfort is not a light word but a work of God Himself, who quickens the soul by His Word and gives a comfort that can be pressed to the bosom in affliction. We pray that the God of all comfort will draw near to this bereaved family, to your former companion and to all his close ones, and speak peace to their grieving hearts, and establish them in every good word and work. For comfort alone is not enough without constancy, and constancy cannot stand without comfort, and both are found in our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God even our Father.
We pray also for strength, for human strength will spend itself and fail, being but derived strength. The promise stands, They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. May those who mourn be taught to wait upon the Lord in prayer, for it was little prayer that brings us low and great prayer that lifts us up. The Lord Himself says, I will strengthen them, and He imparts strength fitly and wisely for the walk and the work and the battles that lie before them. May He be their strength and their song and become their salvation.
For temporal need we also pray. Our Father knows what things we have need of, and He is able to provide for His creatures. We ask that in His providence He would supply what is needed financially for this family in these difficult days, and teach them to trust not in uncertain riches but in the living God.
Above all we join your prayer for their souls, that they may be brought to repentance and to salvation through Christ Jesus. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. The way of salvation is to believe on Christ, to trust in Him whom God has laid in Zion for a foundation, to trust in the Substitute whom God has provided for guilty men. There is no other name by which we must be saved, and faith must be urged, for without it there is no salvation. We pray that the Holy Spirit will quicken them, convince them of sin, and draw them to put their iniquity far away and to believe on the Lamb of God with a true and living faith, not partly by self but wholly by Christ.
So we commend them to the Lord, that He would turn this sorrow into a season of seeking Him, that grief may become the doorway to grace, and that those who now weep may yet rejoice in the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life.
We will continue to pray that the Lord will comfort their hearts, renew their strength as they wait upon Him, supply their need according to His riches, and bring each one to repentance and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, to His glory. Amen.
