I would really appreciate your prayers at this time. I've taken six months off college due to stress and anxiety. I'm thinking about returning in September. I've seen my psychiatrist and he has increased both of my medication. It feels like a release. I like to have something to do during the day. I don't feel like I'm achieving anything watching daytime TV during the day.

We hear your heart, dear one, and we stand with you in prayer as you navigate this season of uncertainty and emotional weight. The Lord sees your struggle with stress and anxiety, and He does not dismiss it as trivial. Scripture tells us, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). You are not alone in this battle, and we join you in bringing these burdens before the throne of grace.

It is wise that you have sought help through medical care, and we pray that the adjustments to your medication bring the stability and clarity you need. Yet we also encourage you to seek the Lord’s peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 WEB). Medication can ease symptoms, but true healing, spiritual, emotional, and even physical, comes from the Great Physician. Have you invited Him into this process? Have you laid your fears, your doubts, and your future at His feet? We urge you to spend time in His Word, allowing it to renew your mind (Romans 12:2 WEB) and strengthen your spirit.

Your desire to return to college is understandable, you long for purpose, for structure, for something meaningful to fill your days. But we must ask: is this the right time? Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB) reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." Have you sought the Lord’s guidance about this decision, or are you relying solely on your own feelings or the advice of others? We encourage you to wait on Him, to listen for His voice, and to be open to His leading, even if it means delaying your return or choosing a different path altogether.

We also want to gently address the weight of idleness in this season. While rest is necessary for healing, too much unstructured time can lead to discouragement, as you’ve noticed. Ecclesiastes 10:18 (WEB) warns, "By slothfulness the roof sinks in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaks." Consider how you might use this time productively, not out of legalism, but out of a desire to steward your days well. Could you volunteer, study Scripture more deeply, or explore a new skill that aligns with your gifts? Even small steps can bring a sense of accomplishment and draw you closer to the Lord.

Above all, we pray that you would encounter the love of Christ in a fresh way during this time. He is not distant or indifferent to your pain. He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18 WEB) and offers rest to those who are weary (Matthew 11:28 WEB). Let us pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister, lifting up their heart to You. Lord, You see the weight they carry, the anxiety, the stress, the uncertainty about the future. We ask that You would wrap Your arms around them and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help them to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. Guide their steps, Lord, and make Your path clear for them.

We pray for healing, emotional, mental, and spiritual. May Your Word be a lamp to their feet and a light to their path (Psalm 119:105 WEB). Strengthen them in their weakness, and remind them that Your grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9 WEB). If returning to college is Your will, prepare their heart and mind for it. If not, reveal the next step You have for them.

Father, we also ask that You would protect them from the lies of the enemy, that they are worthless, that they have nothing to offer, or that this season will never end. Remind them of their identity in Christ: chosen, loved, and redeemed. Fill their days with purpose, even in the small things, and draw them closer to You.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who calms the storms and brings hope to the hopeless. Amen."

We encourage you to cling to the truth that God has a plan for you, a plan for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). This season is not the end of your story; it is merely a chapter, and the Lord is writing it with you. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and know that we are standing with you in prayer. You are not forgotten. You are deeply loved.

Thank you for letting us walk with you through this. Taking six months off was not a failure; it was a wise and honest choice, and the relief you feel with your medication change matters. Wanting something meaningful in your days instead of daytime TV is actually a good sign. It means you are beginning to look outward again, not just enduring.

We would encourage you to keep working closely with your psychiatrist as September approaches. If counseling is not already part of the picture, you might ask him or your campus about adding that alongside the medication, since the two together often help more than either alone. On the practical side, a good first step could be contacting your college's academic advising or student support office to ask about a reduced course load or a phased return. That takes some of the pressure off and gives you a concrete path back.

Father, thank you for the steadiness beginning to return. Give wisdom about the fall, courage for small next steps, and peace in the waiting. We ask for the right balance of rest and direction, and we trust you with the outcome. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is no small mercy that you have found some release, but do not mistake release for the deepest cure. Anxiety has never comforted anybody, nor brought any grist to the mill. In fact the very anxiety that arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. I am glad you have sought help and that your physician has done what he could. Receive the medicine as a providence, but let your soul turn to the One who rules all things well.

The desire to return in September is better than the emptiness of daytime television. A man was not made to do nothing. God made us for service and for the use of our powers, and idleness soon becomes its own weariness. But if you return, do not return in the strength of your own resolutions. Return with full purpose of heart toward God, committing the whole matter to Him. Nothing in your life has come by chance. He has one purpose, and that purpose is not turned aside. Even the months you have set aside have not fallen out of order.

Before you set your face toward the lecture hall, set your face toward the Lord. Pray where you are, in the quiet of your own room. If you have drifted, the beginning of setting things right is returning to Him from whom we have departed. Do not wait for a better feeling or a more orderly frame. The prodigal came just as he was. Come with the same confession, and you will find the same welcome.

I will ask the Lord to make September a door of purpose rather than a door of fresh anxiety, to give you steady hours and useful work, and to teach you to trust Him for the strength of each day. If you do not yet see all the reasons for these months, remember that all things work together for good to them that love God. Use the quiet weeks now, not as a blank, but as a time of turning. Read the Scriptures daily, seek the Lord, and let Christ be the rest beneath your labors.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing so honestly about this season. It is understandable to feel unsettled after stepping away from college for six months, and to feel the weight of stress and anxiety while also wanting your days to have purpose and direction.

It is good that you have sought help and are under the care of your psychiatrist. We are glad to hear you have felt some release since your medication was increased. God is the one who gives strength when the soul is bowed down and weary, and he uses many means, including doctors and wise counsel, to help sustain us. Continue to work closely with those caring for you and to be open with them about how you are doing.

That desire you expressed, to have something meaningful to do during the day rather than feeling you are achieving nothing watching daytime television, is a healthy insight. An idle and unstructured life often increases anxiety and discouragement, while orderly and purposeful activity, even in small things, can bring peace and a sense of crown and reward even in this life. Watching television is not fruitless in itself for a time of rest, but when everything might be done usefully, it is wise to ask how to use time for what truly builds you up.

As you consider returning in September, pray for wisdom and seek counsel from trusted people around you, including your family, your church, and your medical advisors. You do not need to make the decision alone or all at once. Consider what small, steady steps you could take now to give shape to your days, whether that is daily prayer and reading Scripture, regular sleep and exercise, helping at home or in your church, voluntary work, or gentle preparation for study. Faithfulness in little things prepares the heart for larger responsibilities.

Be assured that your heavenly Father is loving and eager for you to draw near to him. If you feel far off or burdened by what has happened, you can return to him at any time and say with honesty that you need his mercy and help. He does not hold your past against you when you come to him through Jesus Christ, but gives remission and strength for each day.

We are praying for you, that God will grant you his peace that guards heart and mind in Christ Jesus, that he will give you clarity and steady strength as you look toward September, and that he will fill your days with useful and hopeful purpose.

Father in heaven, we lift this student to you. You know the stress and anxiety that led to stepping away from college and you see the desire to live purposefully. Grant peace, renewed strength, wisdom for medical care, and clear guidance about returning to study. Help each day to be used well for your glory and for good, and draw this dear one closer to you through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
