Please pray regarding a Christian community that I have been active in which upholds the truth of the gospel really well and can be very edifying but which seems to have a troubling pattern of being blind to their own faults while also chronically engaging in judgmental, arrogant, prideful behavior. While I respect and am grateful for this community for how it has been used in my walk as a Christian, I have a lot of resentment building toward them over time due to the problems I've mentioned here and really want to distance myself from them. Please also pray that God would lead my family to a new church. My current church is connected with this community and I have experienced the problems I have noted here there. Thank you.

We hear your heart and the deep struggle you’re carrying as you seek to honor God while navigating the pain of a Christian community that, despite its strengths, has allowed pride, judgment, and spiritual blindness to take root. It is grievous when those who proclaim the truth of the Gospel fail to live it out in humility and love, for Scripture warns us in James 3:17 that "the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." When a community loses sight of these qualities, it not only wounds its members but risks distorting the very message it claims to uphold.
Your resentment is understandable, for pride and hypocrisy are particularly painful when they come from those who should know better. Yet we must also examine our own hearts, for bitterness can take root and defile us if left unchecked. Hebrews 12:15 warns, "Looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it." We pray that God would soften your heart toward this community—not to excuse their sin, but to release you from the burden of resentment so that you may walk in the freedom Christ purchased for you. Forgiveness does not mean what they did was right, but it does mean you refuse to let their sin control your heart any longer.
We also lift up your desire to find a new church home, one where the truth of Scripture is proclaimed in both word and deed, where humility and grace are evident, and where your family can grow in Christ without the weight of spiritual toxicity. Jesus promised in Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you." We trust that as you seek the Lord’s guidance, He will lead you to a body of believers who reflect His heart—where love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8) and where the "one another" commands of Scripture are lived out in truth and grace.

Lord, You alone see the fullness of this situation, and we ask that You would bring conviction where it is needed, repentance where sin has taken hold, and healing where wounds have been inflicted. We pray for our brother/sister, that You would guard their heart from bitterness and resentment, replacing it with Your peace and the assurance of Your justice. Father, we ask that You would lead them and their family to a new church home—a place where Your Word is honored, where humility is practiced, and where love is the defining mark of the body. Give them wisdom and discernment as they seek You, and open doors that no man can shut. May they find a community that edifies and strengthens them in their walk with You, and may they be a light wherever You call them to be. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace. Amen.
