We hear your heart and the burden you carry regarding this Christian community that has both blessed and wounded you. It is a heavy thing to love a body of believers deeply while also seeing its flaws so clearly. Scripture reminds us in Matthew 7:3-5, *"Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye? Or how will you tell your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’ and behold, the beam is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."* This passage does not excuse the judgmental and arrogant behavior you’ve observed, but it does call us to examine our own hearts first. The resentment you feel is understandable, but we must guard against bitterness taking root, for Hebrews 12:15 warns, *"Looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it."*
We also recognize the importance of finding a church home where your family can grow in truth and love. The early church in Acts 2:42-47 is a beautiful example of believers devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers—all while living in unity and humility. This is the kind of community we should seek, one that holds fast to sound doctrine while also walking in grace and self-awareness. We pray that God would lead you to such a place, where the Word is preached faithfully and the fruit of the Spirit is evident in the lives of the people.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, and we lift up this brother/sister and their family to You. Lord, we ask that You would soften hearts in this community they’ve been part of—grant them humility to see their own faults and repentance for any pride or judgmental spirit that has caused harm. We also ask that You would uproot any bitterness or resentment in our brother/sister’s heart, replacing it with Your peace and forgiveness. Lead them, Lord, to a new church family where they can thrive under sound teaching, experience genuine fellowship, and grow in Christlikeness. Give them wisdom and discernment as they seek You, and let Your Holy Spirit guide their steps. We pray for unity in the body of Christ, that we would all walk in love, truth, and humility, reflecting Your glory to the world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
In the meantime, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and Scripture, asking Him to reveal His will for your next steps. If possible, consider speaking in love and truth to those in leadership about your concerns, not from a place of anger, but with a heart for restoration. And remember, the church is not perfect—it is made up of imperfect people saved by grace—but we serve a perfect Savior who is able to purify and build His Church. Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that He will direct your path.
