Beloved of All
Your prayer reveals a heart loaded with real and heavy burdens, and God is not indifferent to any of them. He knows you need food, shelter, a job, and the money to pay your bills. Those things matter to Him, and He invites you to cast those cares on Him. Yet I want to gently press into something deeper, because the way we see our circumstances often reveals what we truly believe about God and about the life He has called us to.
You said you are tired of living under your wife’s control, and that pain is not lost on me. But Scripture shows us that marital struggles usually flow from a breakdown in the two distinct callings husbands and wives receive. When a husband withdraws into coldness or passivity, it often breeds insecurity in his wife, and that insecurity can come out as challenging or controlling behavior. That then makes the husband pull back even more, and the two of you end up in opposite camps. The remedy Jesus provides is not for you to escape her influence, but for you to step fully into your calling: to love her as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. That kind of sacrificial, initiating love breaks the cycle. It does not demand to be freed from her; it humbly seeks her good and creates an atmosphere where mutual respect can grow again. I understand you feel weary, but true thriving will come not when you break free of her, but when you faithfully die to self for her sake, with God’s help.
At the same time, your financial crisis feels overwhelming. No income, bills pressing in, the threat of homelessness, it is natural to cry out, “Where? What? When?” But notice how easily our minds can treat God as if His provision depends on our frantic pleas or as if He were constantly teetering on the edge of running out of resources. You do not need to bail God out; He owns everything and is never in crisis. The Macedonian believers were in deep poverty and severe trials, yet from the abundance of their joy they gave generously to help others. Their joy wasn’t in a fat bank account; it was in knowing Christ. The prophet Haggai confronted people who were always earning but never having enough, and he traced it straight back to their neglect of putting God first. Jesus said to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these material things will be added to you.
So let me ask you gently: in your current desperation, have you considered how your priorities line up with His? It’s not about sending a check to trigger a breakthrough, but about whether your heart is yielded to His rule in every area, your marriage, your work, your view of money. Paul the apostle labored with his own hands making tents so he wouldn’t be a burden to anyone or give the impression he was in ministry just for personal gain. That means honest, ordinary work done for God’s glory is honorable, and you can trust Him to open doors even as you humbly take whatever work becomes available, even if it seems beneath your calling or training.
God is not panicking over your bus pass or phone bill. He isn’t looking at your empty pantry and wringing His hands. He is the sovereign King who put Nebuchadnezzar on a throne and then humbled him to show that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of men. That same King knows your needs before you ask. His timing may not be the instant revelation you are begging for, but He will supply what you truly need as you walk in obedience. The provision may come through work you find tomorrow, or through the unexpected kindness of other believers, just as Paul collected for the poor saints in Jerusalem.
For now, stop seeing God as though He’s about to file for bankruptcy and you have to convince Him to act. Instead, bring your requests with thanksgiving, and then take the next responsible step: actively seek employment, even temporary or simple labor, and begin to be the loving husband who serves rather than resents. As you reorder your life under His loving command, you will find that your security is not in a car or a new address or a certain paycheck, but in the One who gave His own Son for you and will withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly.
