Grief and longing often arrive together, don’t they? The need for a headstone and the ache for more connection with someone you care about both touch something deep. What you’re feeling is not small, and it is right to bring these things before the Lord.
Down inside every human heart there is a thirst for relationship, a drive for meaningful connection. That thirst is real, and God Himself planted it there. But many things people chase to satisfy that thirst turn out to be temporary. The joy found in the Lord runs much deeper. It remains constant because He is constant in His love and goodness toward you, even when circumstances and emotions shift. That doesn’t mean you ignore the practical needs or the desire to hear your boyfriend’s voice. It means you let those desires lead you into a more honest conversation with the One who already knows them.
You were not made for a distant, legal arrangement with God where you just check off requests. He invites you into a close relationship where you can call Him Father. So when the finances seem impossible and the wait between phone calls feels empty, tell Him. He is not put off by your asking. In fact, He wants you to know He cares about what weighs on your heart. The long waiting and the heavy schedules can feel like a barren season, but spring does come. The deadness gives way to new life and provision in His time.
Let these needs drive you deeper into that loving relationship with Jesus. Instead of letting the distance or the financial burden create a cold drift in your spirit, use the longing as a prompt to speak with Him openly. He hears about the headstone. He hears about the desire for conversation. And as you commit your ways to Him, placing Him first in your priorities, you may find His blessing breaking through in ways you didn’t expect. The thirst you feel for connection is ultimately satisfied in knowing Him, and from that place of fullness, He can also touch the very practical things you’ve mentioned. He is not slow in keeping His promises; His patience is salvation, and His ear is open. Keep bringing these requests to Him, and watch for His faithfulness.
