bully

We hear your pain and frustration, and we stand with you in seeking God’s justice and peace in this difficult situation. Workplace bullying is a serious matter, and Scripture makes it clear that we are to treat others with kindness, respect, and love, even those who mistreat us. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:18, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." However, this does not mean we should tolerate unrighteous behavior or allow ourselves to be continually harmed.

First, we must examine our own hearts to ensure we are not responding in kind with bitterness, anger, or retaliation, for Ephesians 4:29 warns, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear." Instead, we are called to respond with wisdom and grace, trusting God to defend us. Proverbs 25:21-22 says, "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head. Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

That said, we must also recognize that God does not expect us to endure abuse or mistreatment indefinitely. If this individual’s behavior is creating a toxic or unsafe environment, it is appropriate to seek wise counsel, document incidents, and, if necessary, involve those in authority who can address the situation justly. Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us, "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are left desolate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy."

We also lift up in prayer, for it is not our place to wish harm upon him, but rather to pray for his heart to be softened and for God to work in his life. Matthew 5:44 instructs us, "But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you." This does not mean we condone his actions, but we trust God to bring about justice and transformation in His perfect timing.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, seeking Your wisdom, protection, and justice in this situation. Lord, we ask that You would be a shield for [the one being bullied], surrounding them with Your peace and strength. Give them the courage to respond with grace and wisdom, and the discernment to know when to seek help from those in authority. We pray for , Lord, that You would soften his heart and reveal to him the error of his ways. If it is Your will, Father, we ask that You would remove him from this workplace so that Your peace may reign. But if he remains, Lord, give [the one being bullied] the strength to endure and the faith to trust in Your justice. Help them to see this trial as an opportunity to grow in Christlikeness and to rely on You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this situation, trusting that He sees your struggles and will not leave you without help. Lean on Him, and do not hesitate to reach out to godly mentors or leaders who can offer support and guidance. You are not alone in this battle.

We can hear the exhaustion in your simple, direct request. A workplace bully can drain the joy from even the most fulfilling job, and it is completely understandable that you would long for an environment free from that daily tension. Your hope, that this person might find happiness somewhere else, shows a generous spirit, even in your frustration. It is hard to wish someone well when they are causing genuine pain.

One thing we have seen is that waiting for someone else to leave or change can leave us feeling helpless for a long time. While you cannot control your coworker’s future, you can take some concrete steps to protect your own well-being and dignity right now. It may be wise to start documenting specific incidents: dates, times, what was said or done, and any witnesses. This is not about nursing a grudge but about having a clear record if you eventually need to involve a supervisor or human resources. You deserve to work without being intimidated. Also, consider whether there is a trusted person at work or in your church leadership who can offer ongoing support and practical wisdom for navigating this.

Sometimes the deeper work is releasing the emotional hold this person has on you. Forgiveness in a situation like this is not about pretending the behavior is acceptable or excusing it. It is more like deciding not to let resentment live rent-free in your own heart, which only exhausts you further. That can be a gradual process, but it often starts with a simple, honest prayer.

We are praying with you now: Lord Jesus, you see the weight our friend carries each workday. Grant clear-eyed wisdom for next steps and practical protections. Surround them with allies and advocates. Guard their heart from bitterness and slowly replace the anxiety and anger with your steady peace. We ask that you would resolve this situation in a way that allows dignity and rest, and that your will be done in the life of the one causing harm. In your name, Amen.

It is a sore trial to be vexed by a contentious spirit in the place of your daily labor. Yet remember, that even this is appointed of the Lord for the proving of your faith and the whetting of your graces. Think not first upon the removal of the thorn, but upon the sufficiency of the grace which is given you to bear it. You have a work to do for your Master even in the midst of this furnace, and that work is to exhibit the meekness and longsuffering of Christ.

When the world expects retaliation, to return blessing for cursing is to let down the net at Christ’s word upon a fresh side of the ship. Labor after his soul, for the bully is but a blinded sinner in need of the great Physician. Your business is not to wish him away to another company, but to pray him into the kingdom, that his happiness may be found in Christ and not in a mere change of earthly station. And leave the ordering of his removal, if it be God’s will, in the hands of Providence.

The Spirit alone can work the miracle of a changed heart; but you must be the instrument, working while it is day, for night cometh. Go then, and work in this vineyard, hard by your own door, and look for the reward when the Master shall make up His jewels.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer reveals a wound I understand well, yet the remedy you seek is poison to your own soul. Do you not see what you have done? You have come before the throne of God, who makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and you have asked Him to strike another for your comfort. This is no small matter. The mouth that has received the Lord's Body must not utter such bitterness. If revilers shall not inherit the kingdom of God, what of those who curse? What of those who beg God to curse? You have asked for something utterly at odds with the prayer He taught us. How can you say, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven," and then pray for a man's expulsion as if he were a demon to be cast out? In heaven there are no persecutors, no bullies, no unbelievers. When you pray that prayer, you are asking God to draw all men, even those who hate you, to Himself. You are asking Him to make this man an angel. Yet here you undo that prayer with your own lips.

The day is a tempest, and the workplace a battlefield. The rocks are many, and the boat often strikes and sinks. You need prayer as a great weapon, yes, but not this prayer. This prayer is a hole in the hull you have made yourself. You ask God to be propitious to you, yet you fill your mouth with imprecations. How shall such a prayer be accepted? It is not against him; it is against yourself. God's goodness to His enemies is shown by His works. He does not extinguish the sun for the blasphemer. He gives rain to the persecutor. Imitate Him. Can you not make your bully's sun arise? Then at least abstain from this evil speaking. Can you not send rain upon his fields? Then forbear reviling. Instead, pray for him. Not that he leave, but that both he and you be drawn to the fear of God. This is the prayer that profits, the prayer that makes God your ally, the prayer that lets you laugh your enemy to scorn because you have God propitious. What you have asked for is a kingdom and a victory over enemies; this is the vain repetition of the heathen, asking what does not concern our salvation. If you would have your own sins forgiven, you must not seek vengeance. Lay aside this prayer, and take up the one weapon that cannot fail.

When you face a persistent difficulty like this, the first and most powerful thing you can do is bring it to God in prayer. He already sees the turmoil this person is causing, and He cares. Like Nehemiah when enemies conspired to fight and stop the work, your instinct should be, “We made our prayer to God.” Ask Him to handle the situation according to His wisdom, whether that means changing a heart, opening a door elsewhere, or simply shielding you so that the hostility cannot hinder the tasks He has given you.

Don’t let fear or discouragement take root. Fear is a tool the enemy uses to paralyze us. Remember the Lord; He is your hope from your youth. He is the same God who can bring the counsel of an adversary to nothing and enable the work to be finished. Your real safety and progress aren’t dependent on a particular person leaving, they rest in His hands. Stand your ground, keep praying, and return each day to your own work. In His strength, you can go forward, even if you have to labor with one hand holding a spear, so to speak.

Entrust the whole matter to Him. He knows the words of hatred that were spoken against Him, and He knows what you’re facing. Commit it into His hands and leave it there. He will maintain your cause, and you will discover that the work of righteousness is peace.
