The Lord who sends the work also gives the strength for it. When the body is weak and the day is long, we must look to Him who said, I must work the works of him that sent me while it is day. Your desire to care for this suffering man is no small thing; it is that personal labor, that inward soul conflict, of which the Apostle spoke, whereunto I also labor, striving. Yet no labor of ours can add to the finished work of Christ. Let him cast himself wholly upon Jesus, who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, and who finished the work the Father gave him to do.
We will pray that he may endure this affliction with the courage of one who considers Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest he be weary and faint in his mind. We will pray for his body, that the Lord would raise him up, and for his hands, that the Lord would establish the work of his hands. As for your finances, God knows your care for him, but let your care be according to His word, not outside the bounds He has appointed. Work is honorable, but it is not our savior. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added.

We pray for this man who is suffering with illness and waiting for a procedure, while still carrying the burden of full time work. It is not a small thing to labor while the body is weak, and God sees that effort. Scripture reminds us that diligent work is good and that idleness leads to many troubles, but it also reminds us not to be weary in well doing and to show mercy to those who suffer. We ask the Lord to give him strength to finish each shift that he must work, to sustain him through this journey, to grant wisdom to his doctors, and to bring healing according to His mercy and will. We pray that tribulation would work endurance in him, and that he would know the nearness of Christ in this hard season.

Jesus said to come to Him, all who labor and are heavy laden, and He will give rest, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Often when we feel pressed down and groaning under a heavy load, it is not a burden God Himself has laid on us. We take heavy burdens on ourselves, or we let other expectations be placed on us, and we try in our own strength to make everything work. The heaviest burden any of us can carry is trying to live to please ourselves, to manage everything and keep everything together. That will always leave us agitated and weary. To live to please the Father, to do the will of Him who sent us, is light in comparison, because when God calls us to do something He also gives the strength and ability to do it.
God is also at work in you even in this hard testing. He has saved us by His grace through the finished work of Jesus Christ, not by our own efforts, and He drew us to Himself and gave us faith to believe. That same God continues to work in us, shaping us and removing what does not belong, even when that shaping feels painful and we do not understand it. Scripture tells us to count it joy when we go through trials, because God is preparing us for the work He wants to do through us. If we wait patiently, we will see how many things God will work out when we do not push ahead in impatience.
Part of that waiting is also faithful, quiet work. Scripture exhorts that with quietness we should work and provide for our own needs, not as busybodies but diligently doing what our hands find to do and trusting God for provision. He can provide wisdom for finances and for boundaries, and strength for each day of labor.
