We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your boyfriend and the concerns that weigh on both of your spirits. The uncertainty of medical results can bring fear and anxiety, but we know that our God is sovereign over all things, including our health, our fears, and our futures. The Bible reminds us in Psalm 56:3, "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you." Even in the waiting, we can choose to place our trust in the One who holds every outcome in His hands.
Father, we ask You to surround this young man with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If this diagnosis is confirmed, we pray for Your healing touch, whether through medical treatment, divine intervention, or the strength to endure. If the results bring relief, we thank You in advance for Your mercy. Lord, we also ask that You grant wisdom to his doctors and clarity to his mind as he processes this news. Let him feel Your presence in tangible ways, reminding him that he is never alone.
We must also gently address the nature of your relationship. Scripture is clear that intimacy and emotional attachment outside of marriage can lead to heartache and spiritual compromise. In 1 Corinthians 6:18, we are warned, "Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." If you and your boyfriend are not married, we encourage you to honor God by pursuing purity in your relationship. This includes guarding your hearts, setting boundaries, and considering whether marriage is the godly next step. If you are both believers, marriage is the only context in which romantic love should be fully expressed (Hebrews 13:4).

The great sickness you describe calls for the one great Physician. There is but one sacred Fountain opened on Calvary; to wash therein is health. I urge you to direct this dear soul, not only to the doctor of the body, but with double earnestness to the Physician of souls. His healing leaves are for the nations, and His power is present to forgive sin and to breathe a peace which passes all understanding. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed. Let him first know that his iniquities are forgiven, for that touch of personal faith brings true peace to the soul.
Yet observe the divine order in the healing of the palsied man, first forgiveness, then healing. Christ did not raise him up to prove the pardon, but gave the pardon as the greater gift. Seek for this man a mind stayed upon God, for then he shall have perfect peace, peace in the midst of sorrows surging round. If he should pass through the shadow of sickness, even to the valley of death, Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers. Earth’s struggles soon shall cease, and Jesus calls us to Heaven’s perfect peace.
But while we wait, we must not fear, for fear dishonors God. What? Shall we doubt the arm that piles the heavens? "Fear not, thou worm; I will help thee, saith the Lord." It is not a preacher alone who cries, "Fear not," but Jesus Himself whispers it to His servants fallen at His feet. Let this man wait upon God in hope, not in despair. The Lord is a waiting God, and the waiting of His people is a posture of expectation, till the glory has begun.
Therefore, pour out your heart for him that he may grasp the one great cure-all, the blood of Jesus which whispers peace within. The healing virtue which His grace infuses will work health and cure for the soul, world without end, even if the body must wait for that morning when the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing beneath His wings. Trust in promised strength, and let not your heart be troubled. We have the life within us which is to be perfect forever and ever.

You ask prayers for this man, and that is good, for we are commanded to bear one another’s burdens and to edify each other daily, lest any root of bitterness spring up and defile many. Do not place all the weight on those who teach you; you too are able to build up the wavering by your own faith and fervent supplication.
Consider how the lame in the Gospel were brought to Christ on the mountain, not merely touching His garment but cast at His feet, showing a true and vigorous faith. So bring this man’s need before the Lord with that same boldness, desiring nothing less than to lay the whole burden at the feet of Jesus. The body’s distress is a summons to seek the Healer of souls, for what profit is it if the flesh be whole but the spirit languishes in unbelief? Let us labor to enter into that rest which remains for the people of God, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience, failing to trust His goodness in trial.
If the report from his physician weighs heavily, do not drown in grief or cause others to tremble at death as though God had done a dreadful thing. Why fight against yourself by mourning excessively over one who, by these very afflictions, may be drawn to harbor? Entreat the Lord to make straight the body’s course, but above all pray that this man would not come short of the grace of God, that he would not be a profane person like those who despised their birthright, but would find the Judge propitious through repentance and a living faith.
Yet as you pray, examine your own standing. You speak of him as your boyfriend, a bond not yet the honorable covenant of marriage. I do not pray to bless what God’s word does not bless, for the conjugal union alone is the place of pure intimacy. Let your care for his health become also a care for both your souls, that you might not provoke the Lord by clinging to any arrangement at odds with His commands. Turn these fears into an occasion to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, so that even this trial might bear fruit unto eternal rest, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Waiting for a doctor to interpret test results can feel like the floor has dropped out from under you. The mind races through every worst fear, and the heart gets pulled right along with it. That kind of anxiety and turmoil is exactly what the enemy uses to steal the very rest God has already promised to His children. The condition of the heart right now is what matters most, not just his, but yours too. Are you leaning entirely on your own understanding of what those results might mean, or are you trusting in the Lord with all your heart? God has not given us a spirit of fear, and He calls us to enter into His rest, not to be filled with strife and unrest.
This is a real test, the kind that reveals where our faith is actually anchored. Medical science can reach the end of its resources, and when the report sounds bleak, people often go to pieces. But the believer is not left to the mercy of a diagnosis. We do not put God to a foolish test by demanding a particular outcome, but we also recognize that He is the one who searches the heart and tries the mind. Let this moment drive you both to let Him search you. Ask Him to reveal any way of wickedness, any reliance on the flesh instead of on Him. The test is not only in the physical concern; it is in whether you will harden your hearts through unbelief or soften them through trust.
The beautiful truth woven through Scripture is that God rewards faithfulness, not necessarily the results we want to see. We are not commissioned officers paid on the outcome. He asks us to trust Him, to cast that anxiety on Him, and to leave the results in His hands. Whether the news brings immediate relief or a heavier burden, the righteous are still preserved. The eternal results of a life of righteousness are certain, even when this earthly life brings suffering. Do not miss the opportunity here. The greatest danger is not what shows up on a lab report, but a heart that refuses to trust and so misses the rest God provides. Pray for his body, yes. But even more, pray that this draws him, and you, nearer to the thick darkness where God is, where reverence and real faith are forged. Sing a new song in the waiting, bless His name, and trust the path to Him.
