Good and Faithful Servant
I recently posted this: "My boyfriend and I are unequally yoked in a lot of ways and lately, he keeps expressing displeasure at the differences we have. He is a professing Christian but holds to certain false teachings. There are also other ways that we differ. I broke up with him a little while ago because I was struggling with these differences and some other things but we were both so heartbroken that I got back together with him. But these differences now continue to be a problem. It was not this difficult before. Please pray about all this. Please pray for me because I feel really overwhelmed and upset right now emotionally. I have ### that require me to stay calm and now, after he just got upset with me because of these differences, I feel physically worn and generally upset." I decided to text my boyfriend how I felt about him constantly expressing displeasure at our differences and let him know that if it all bothers him so much, we need to consider whether we really should be a couple. I told him we don't have to decide anything right now (it's the middle of the night and he has work in the morning) but I just needed to tell him how I feel because I'm getting physically worn down from bottling up his comments. I don't want to upset him in the middle of the night before work or cause him distress (he also has ### that require him to stay calm) but I just had to get it out. Please pray he would not be upset (emotionally or physically) or too upset to work tomorrow. Thank you.

We hear your heartache and the weight of this struggle, and we come before the Lord together in Jesus’ name, seeking His wisdom and peace for you. The Scripture warns us clearly in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" While your boyfriend professes faith, the differences in doctrine and conviction you describe reveal a deeper spiritual divide. False teachings distort the truth of God’s Word, and when two people are not aligned in their understanding of Scripture, it creates friction that can harm both the relationship and your walk with Christ.

You also mention that you are in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, which we must address with biblical clarity. The world’s view of dating often leads to emotional and physical compromise, but Scripture calls us to pursue relationships with the intention of marriage, specifically, marriage between a man and a woman who share the same faith in Christ. Courtship should be entered with purity, accountability, and the goal of honoring God together. If this relationship is causing you distress and pulling you away from God’s best for you, it may be time to reconsider whether it aligns with His will.

We must also rebuke the pattern of emotional manipulation and displeasure you’ve described. Love, as defined in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5, "doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil." If his responses are wearing you down physically and emotionally, this is not the fruit of godly love. You are right to set boundaries and communicate your feelings, but we must also ask: Is this relationship building you up in Christ, or is it draining your spirit?

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear sister who is carrying such a heavy burden. Lord, You see her heart, her desire to honor You, her love for this man, and the pain of this struggle. We ask that You would grant her clarity and peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and help her to release this weight into Your hands.

Father, we pray for her boyfriend as well. If he is truly Your child, soften his heart to receive Your truth and align his beliefs with Your Word. If this relationship is not Your will, Lord, we ask that You would make that clear to both of them. Give them the courage to walk in obedience, even if it means parting ways. Protect them from bitterness, resentment, or further emotional harm.

Lord, we also ask for Your healing touch over her physical and emotional weariness. Strengthen her in this season, and remind her that her worth is found in You alone. Surround her with godly community who can speak truth and encouragement into her life. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your plan, knowing that You work all things for the good of those who love You.

We rebuke any spirit of confusion, fear, or division in this situation, and we declare that Your peace would reign in their hearts. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in all of this. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to seek counsel from mature believers in your church, those who can walk alongside you and help you discern God’s will. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." You do not have to navigate this alone. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

If you have not already, we urge you to surrender this relationship fully to God. Ask Him to reveal His will and give you the strength to follow it, no matter how difficult. Remember, God’s plans for you are for good, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Hold fast to His promises, and do not settle for anything less than His best.

We can hear how much you needed to get that out. It was not cruel to tell him how his comments have been affecting you. Naming what is wearing you down gives both of you a chance to face what is real rather than letting it keep building in silence.

For tonight, let the text be the last step. Put the phone down for now and do something quiet while your body settles. You have said what you needed to say, and you do not have to manage his reaction through the night. If the physical wear and tear continues, please consider seeing your doctor, not instead of prayer but alongside it.

Father, we ask you to guard this sister’s heart and body tonight. Calm her mind, ease the physical exhaustion, and help her rest. Keep her boyfriend steady through the night and able to work tomorrow. Give them both clear thinking and gentle honesty in the days ahead, and make your direction plain. In Jesus’ name we ask this, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

The word you have used is the word of God, and it ought to search you more than all your present sorrows. You say he is a professing Christian yet holds false teachings. A profession is nothing if the truth is not in it; a little leaven leavens the whole lump. The command is not to be unequally yoked, and if the yoke is already galling, that is not a thing to silence with tears and warm feelings. It is a thing to bring before the Lord and examine with an honest heart.

You fear you have upset him by speaking truthfully. It is better to speak truth in love than to keep a false peace that wears out your body and soul. But do not let your chief prayer be only that he may not be upset tomorrow. Pray that he may be upset, if God so wills, into a right understanding of the gospel, and that you may be kept in the truth whatever it costs. The Savior’s yoke is easy and His burden is light, but a yoke between two who do not agree in the truth is heavy, and you are already finding it so.

Let me plead with you to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. If his displeasure at the differences is constant, then you must consider whether this is the Lord’s warning. Heartbreak at parting is not proof that joining was right. The question is not whether you can bear the strain, but whether you can walk together in the same faith once delivered to the saints. If he holds false teaching, do not call it a small matter. It is the very life of the soul.

Pray then in this manner: Lord, give me calm, for I am weak. Give me wisdom, for I am perplexed. Give me courage to obey Thee above every earthly tie. Search him, O Lord, and deliver him from every false way. If we are not to be yoked together, make it plain and make us willing to bow to Thy will. If we are to walk together, let it only be in Thy truth and under the yoke of Christ. But whatsoever Thou dost, save us from a peace that is no peace.

That is my prayer for you. Do not trust your own fainting heart; trust the Lord, who is able to keep you from falling. Stand still, and see the salvation of God.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The distress you describe is the fruit of a root that must be cut out. You broke away, and then returned because of heartbreak; but heartbreak is not the same as godly peace. The conflict between you is not merely a difference of opinion. He holds to false teaching, and Scripture asks, what fellowship has light with darkness? When two walk together, they must be agreed. If your walks are pulling in opposite directions, the only result is the physical and spiritual weariness you now feel. It is no small thing that your body cries out for calm and cannot find it in this relationship. God often withdraws a thing from us to transfer our affection to heaven. Perhaps this very turmoil is His mercy, showing you that this bond is not from Him.

You chose to speak honestly to him in the night. That is not in itself evil, but do not be ruled by fear of his upset. You are not responsible to manage his emotions by silencing your own. The word says to be quiet and wait for the time of conflict, but when the truth must be spoken, speak it plainly and then leave the outcome to God. If he is distressed, that is between him and the Lord. Your duty is to obey God rather than to keep a false peace. And remember: the righteous are often tempted more sharply just before their conflict ends. God may be intensifying this struggle so that you will at last be free.

Do not return to the food that made you sick. You broke off the relationship, and then went back. That is like a man healed for forty days who returns to the same disease. The health of your soul is more precious than the comfort of having a companion. The Church herself separates the healthy from the diseased when she calls the holy to the table. So you must separate yourself from what is spiritually diseased, even if it wears the name of Christ. A man may profess faith and yet teach falsehood. Such a man is not a safe guide for your soul. The desire for this relationship is a poverty of spirit, for he is poor who desires many things, and rich who stands in need of nothing. Cast out the desire for a bond that cannot honor God, and you will find riches you did not know.

Your body is worn down because you have been carrying a burden God never asked you to carry. The Lord does not call you to be unequally yoked so that you may be slowly crushed. He calls you to take His yoke, which is easy, and His burden, which is light. That yoke is found in wholehearted obedience, not in clinging to a man who causes you constant displeasure and spiritual confusion. Let him go. If he repents of false teaching and you both seek the Lord with one mind, then there may be a future to consider. But until then, do not bargain with your peace. And if you are not married, remember that your bodies are not your own. Any intimacy that belongs only to marriage is another reason to step back, for the Lord is holy.

I will pray for your body, that God would calm your heart and give you sleep. I will pray for your soul, that you would love Christ more than the fleeting comfort of a boyfriend. And I will pray for him, that God would grant him repentance and physical calm, not that He would bless a relationship built on division, but that He would save his soul and yours. The decision may not need to be made in the middle of the night, but it must be made. Do not delay obedience out of fear of heartbreak. The heartbreak of losing a wrong relationship is a wound that heals. The slow death of a soul in an unequal yoke may not heal until it is too late. Seek the Lord while He may be found.

Thank you for sharing so openly about what you are carrying. I hear how heavy and exhausting this has become, and how much you want to honor God while also caring for both your health and his.

Scripture gives a clear principle for exactly this kind of situation. It says not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers, asking what fellowship righteousness has with unrighteousness and what communion light has with darkness. That principle is not limited only to marriage. It applies to any close yoke where two people are bound together to walk in the same direction and carry the same load. When the yoke is unequal, you remain in an unequal situation the whole time.

Many people feel their case is the exception, that love will be strong enough to cover the differences or that the other person will change. But love by itself does not make an unequal yoke equal. Two people who do not share the same commitment to Christ and to the truth of His Word do not live by the same standard. They do not follow the same ethic, they do not submit to the same authority, and they will not pull the same way. Like oil and water, the two do not blend. That is why Scripture calls us to be separate and to not touch what is unclean, so that we can walk closely with the Lord who receives us as His sons and daughters.

You described him as a professing Christian who holds to false teaching, and that is part of this same problem. A profession alone does not make a yoke equal if what is believed and practiced is not faithful to Scripture. If he is regularly expressing displeasure at the differences between you, that is an honest signal that the differences are real and weighty, not small preferences that will fade. You were right to notice that, and right to ask whether you should continue as a couple. It is painful to ask, but it is the right question.

I also hear that you broke up once and then got back together because you were both heartbroken. Heartbreak is real and painful, but emotions by themselves are not a reliable guide for such an important decision. Our emotions can swing very quickly, even from laughter to tears in a moment, and an emotional experience cannot satisfy the deeper thirst of the spirit. Only God can satisfy the thirst of the heart for Him. The world often tells us that a new or renewed relationship will fill that place, but it cannot. Trying to satisfy a spiritual thirst with an emotional closeness will leave you worn down and still thirsty. Getting excited about God and what He does is good, but building a lifelong decision on a surge of feeling is different from building it on the steady truth of God's Word.

That is why you feel so worn physically and emotionally. Bottling up concerns will wear you down, and living in an unequal yoke will keep wearing you down, because you are constantly trying to reconcile two different directions. Your need to stay calm for health reasons matters, and God cares about your body and your peace. The path to peace is not to keep managing the strain of an unequal walk, but to seek the Lord's will and obey it, trusting that He will deal bountifully with you and surround you with what is good as you seek Him.

Your text to him was honest about how his ongoing displeasure affects you, and honesty is needed. At the same time, the most loving thing for both of you is not to ask God to simply keep you comfortable in a relationship that Scripture warns against, but to ask Him for clarity, truth, and the courage to follow it. Pray that God would give you both a clear understanding of His truth, a willingness to submit to it, and peace as you trust Him. Pray that He would satisfy your heart with Himself, give you rest, and give you wisdom for what to do next. If this yoke is unequal, the wise and kind step is to step out of it, not to try harder to make it work.

I encourage you to bring this to Scripture daily, to seek counsel from mature believers who know you and who hold to the historic teaching of the Bible about salvation through Christ alone and about marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and to give yourself time to seek the Lord without pressure to make a quick emotional decision. God meets each of us where we are, and He will meet you in this place with grace to see clearly and to walk faithfully.

May the Lord give you wisdom, guard your health, quiet your heart with His presence, and lead you into the separate and faithful walk He calls His children to.
