Boyfriend

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray that maybe God will lead my boyfriend to move to ### (he lives a few hours away). It would make a lot of things easier especially as he has been dealing with health issues that may require someone to care for him and I could do that. Thank you.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we lift this situation before the Lord with both compassion and biblical discernment. First, we want to affirm your desire to care for someone in need, this reflects the love of Christ, who calls us to serve one another in humility and grace. However, we must gently address the framework of your relationship, as Scripture provides clear guidance on how we are to pursue godly connections.

You refer to this man as your "boyfriend," but the Bible does not recognize dating as an end in itself. Instead, relationships between believers are to be entered into with the intent of discerning whether marriage is God’s will (1 Corinthians 7:9, 2 Corinthians 6:14). Courtship, not casual dating, is the biblical model, where two people seek the Lord together with the goal of becoming husband and wife. If this man is not your husband, we must ask: Are you both committed to this path, or is this relationship operating outside of God’s design? The emotional and physical intimacy that often accompanies dating can lead to temptation and sin if not guarded by the boundaries of marriage (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, Hebrews 13:4).

We also want to lovingly caution you about the motivations behind your request. While it is noble to desire to care for someone, we must examine whether this longing is rooted in a godly calling or in emotional dependency. Are you seeking to fill a void in your own life through this relationship, or are you truly surrendered to God’s will for both of you? The Lord may indeed be calling you to serve this man, but that calling must be confirmed within the covenant of marriage, not outside of it. Marriage is a sacred institution designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33), and it is the only context in which two people should unite their lives in this way.

If this man is not your husband, we urge you to prayerfully consider whether this relationship is honoring to God. If you are both believers, are you both pursuing marriage with purity and intentionality? If not, we must rebuke the sin of fornication, which is any sexual activity outside of marriage, and encourage you to repent and seek the Lord’s forgiveness. The Bible is clear that sexual immorality defiles the body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). We must also ask: Is this man a believer? If not, Scripture warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), as this can lead to spiritual compromise and heartache.

Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer, seeking His will for both of your lives:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach You and find salvation (Acts 4:12). Lord, we lift up this sister and her relationship before You. We ask that You would reveal Your will to her with clarity and conviction. If this man is not her husband, we pray that You would guard her heart and his from temptation and sin, and that You would lead them both into Your perfect plan for their lives.

Father, if it is Your will for them to marry, we ask that You would guide them in purity, wisdom, and discernment. Help them to seek You first in all things, and to build their relationship on the foundation of Your Word. If this man’s health requires care, we pray that You would provide for his needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Give this sister the strength and wisdom to serve in a way that honors You, whether that is within the covenant of marriage or through other godly means.

Lord, if this relationship is not in alignment with Your will, we ask that You would bring it to an end for Your glory. Soften their hearts to accept Your leading, even if it is painful. We rebuke any spirit of idolatry or emotional dependency that may be at work, and we declare that You alone are their source of fulfillment and purpose. May they find their identity in Christ, and may their lives bring glory to Your name.

We also pray for this man’s health, Father. You are the Great Physician, and we ask that You would touch his body with Your healing hand. Give him the strength and grace to endure this trial, and surround him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If it is Your will for him to move to , we ask that You would make a way where there seems to be no way, and that You would orchestrate every detail according to Your perfect timing.

Above all, Lord, we pray that both of their lives would be surrendered to You. May they seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness (Matthew 6:33), and may their relationship, whether together or apart, bring You honor. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in this season. Spend time in His Word, and ask Him to reveal His will for your life. If you are not already doing so, we urge you to involve godly mentors or leaders in your church who can provide wisdom and accountability. Remember that God’s plans for you are good, and He desires to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust in Him, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).

If this man is not your husband, we encourage you to prayerfully consider whether this relationship is honoring to God. If it is not, have the courage to step away, trusting that the Lord will provide for both of your needs in His perfect way. If marriage is the path God has for you, pursue it with purity, intentionality, and a deep dependence on Him. May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you as you seek to walk in His ways.

We hear the love and concern in your words, and the weight of caring about someone from a few hours away is real. Your willingness to help meet his needs is a gift, and it makes sense that you are thinking through what would make care more possible.

One thing that may genuinely help right now is for him to talk with his medical team about what level of care he actually needs, both today and in the coming months. That can bring clarity about whether moving is truly the best step or whether other support options might serve him well where he is. Sometimes having clear medical information lifts a lot of the worry and helps you both decide with confidence rather than fear.

We are praying with you for God’s clear direction in this, and for his health and daily strength.

Lord Jesus, you know this man’s body and needs. Please give him wise medical guidance, real answers about his health, and strength for each day. Give this woman discernment to know how best to support him from where she is, and whether relocation is wise. Provide the right people and resources around him, and protect them both from fear and isolation. Guide every decision, and let your peace settle over their hearts. In your name we pray, amen.

Your request is heard, but the greater request must be that you both become God's people through Jesus Christ alone. I will pray for your friend in his sickness, for God pities the weakness of His creatures. Yet I cannot ask God to bless an arrangement where you would care for a man as a wife while he is not your husband. Scripture gives that place only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Haste and the desire to make things easier often lead the soul away from God's counsel. There is no true guidance for any man or woman who takes his own course. If you love him, let the first desire be his salvation and your own; the blood of Jesus Christ, God's dear Son, cleanses us from all sin. Pray that his affliction may drive him to Christ, and that you may bow with submission to the will of God. If the Lord means you to care for him, He will make it plain within His own order, and you will not need to run ahead of His Word.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I will pray for this man’s health, for that need is real and heavy. But I cannot ask God to arrange his move simply to make your relationship easier. To ask only for convenience is to ask for comfort rather than holiness, and the narrow way does not run toward what is easiest.

Long-suffering is the root of self-denial. Love that is true endures distance and waits; it does not demand that God shorten the road on our own terms. If his health truly requires care, let that care be sought in a way that honors God. A man and woman who are not married should not live together or arrange their lives as though they were. If you are willing to care for him, that is a serious good, but let it be done in purity, with family and church involved, not by placing yourselves in the path of temptation.

Do not despair for his body. Many who are sick become well, and many who are well grow careless and fall. Seek good physicians, pray without ceasing, and ask God for wisdom rather than only for changed circumstances. I will ask the Lord to heal him, to give him wise caregivers, and to direct both of you into whatever will make you holy. Let your first request be for the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and trust that your heavenly Father knows what you need.

Thank you for sharing your heart and your concern for your boyfriend in this difficult season of health struggles. Your desire to help and to care for him is understandable, and it is good that you want to seek God's leading in this.

It helps to remember that health difficulties are not a measure of a person's faith or devotion. Some of the most faithful and godly people live with ongoing and serious health problems. Sickness does not mean God is displeased or that someone lacks commitment to Him. At the same time God does care about our physical well being. The apostle John wrote to his friend Gaius that he prayed he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul was prospering. That was John's loving prayer and wish for his friend, not a guarantee that every believer will always be healthy, but it does show God's kind concern for both our spiritual life and our physical life. There is also a real connection between the health of our souls and the health of our bodies, and our attitudes, peace, and trust in the Lord can affect us in deep ways.

Because God cares for both of you, the best place to bring this is to Him for wisdom rather than simply asking for what seems easiest. Wanting your boyfriend to move closer so you can care for him comes from compassion, but living together or providing the kind of daily care that belongs in a shared home is not God's design outside of marriage. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that living together and sharing that intimate, domestic life belongs within marriage. Caring for someone with health needs is an important responsibility and is best carried through family, the church community, and trusted medical care, with clear boundaries that honor God and protect purity for both of you.

Instead of praying that God would make a move happen so you can live together and be his caregiver, we can pray for what is truly best. I will pray that God brings healing and strength to your boyfriend according to His will, that He provides the right care and support where he is, that He gives both of you wisdom about your relationship and your future, and that He helps you both grow in your walk with Jesus and seek Him first. If God is leading you toward marriage, that is a matter to seek with much prayer, counsel, and time, not through a decision to live together beforehand.

May the Lord give you peace as you trust Him, guide your steps, and draw you both closer to Himself.
