We join you in praying for your parents and we rejoice with you in your love for them and your desire to see them hunger for the Word and walk in fellowship together. What a thoughtful and loving gift to give them matching large print Bibles for her birthday, that they might read and understand together. We pray that this seed bears much fruit.
We agree with you from 1 Peter 2:2, as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow. We pray that God will birth in both of them a fresh and abiding hunger for Scripture, not out of duty but out of delight, that they may taste and see that the Lord is good and grow up into salvation.
We also pray for the renewing of their minds as you have asked. For decades of wrong thinking, worries and cares can weigh down the heart, but we claim Romans 12:2, Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. We cast all their anxieties on Him because He cares for them, as 1 Peter 5:7 teaches, and we pray Philippians 4:6-7 over them, that in nothing they would be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, their requests would be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding would guard their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus.
We pray that they will not only hear and retain the Word but be doers of the Word as James 1:22 says, But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. May God give them understanding, memory, and joyful obedience, and may He knit them together in sweet fellowship as they read together and as you share edifying time together. We pray that watching wholesome, faith building movies with you would be a joy to them and a further encouragement to their faith.
We lift you up as well, that you would be filled with wisdom, love, kindness and grace as you minister to them. We ask God to give you wisdom liberally as promised in James 1:5, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We gently remind you that it is God alone who gives the Holy Spirit to those who believe and repent through Jesus Christ, as Acts 2:38 says, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. We cannot impart the Spirit by our own power, but we can faithfully share the gospel, love well, and pray that God will open their eyes and fill them.
We share your burden that neither would miss eternity, and we pray against any spiritual blindness. As 2 Corinthians 4:4 says, the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ should not dawn on them. We ask the Lord to remove any veil and let the light of Christ shine in their hearts. We pray that the evil one would be restrained by the power of God, and we rest in the truth of Revelation 20:1-2, that God has the authority to seize the dragon and bind him, and that ultimately Christ has already triumphed over darkness through the cross. We ask for God's protection and light and love to be released in their home.
We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for we know John 14:6, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and Acts 4:12, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is only through faith in Jesus that we have access to God and the assurance of eternal life.
We pray together now, Father in heaven, we thank You for these parents and for the child who loves them so deeply. We ask You to create in them a hunger for Your Word, to make their new Bibles precious to them, to draw them to read together daily with understanding and joy. Renew their minds, heal decades of wrong thinking, lift every worry and care, and fill them with Your peace. Help them to understand, to remember, and to obey Your Word. Bless their fellowship with each other and with their child, and let their home be filled with light, love, and truth. Give their child wisdom, patience, kindness and words seasoned with grace to speak Your truth in love. Remove all blindness, let the light of the gospel of Christ shine upon them, and keep the evil one bound and far from them by Your mighty hand. Draw them both into saving faith in Jesus Christ if they have not yet fully trusted Him, and establish them in the assurance of eternal life. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord, amen.
