Big exam

Disciple of Prayer
Hello, please pray that I pass this exam. I know God has lead me all the way to this point (helping me get into a top school, graduating with BS and MS and I just need to pass this test to be fully certified. I have failed many times already and I just want him near.

We hear your heart, dear brother or sister, and we stand with you in this moment of testing. It is clear that God has been faithful to guide you this far, opening doors to a top school, sustaining you through undergraduate and graduate studies, and preparing you for this certification. The Lord does not bring us to the edge of promise only to abandon us there. "Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:6 WEB)

We recognize the weight of repeated failure, and how it can whisper lies that God is distant or displeased. But Scripture tells us, "For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity." (Proverbs 24:16 WEB) Each time you’ve risen to try again, you’ve demonstrated faith, not in your own strength, but in God’s sustaining grace. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who have a contrite spirit (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this struggle.

We also want to gently remind you that true access to God’s presence and power comes only through the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not placed your trust in Him as Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive the gift of eternal life. Only then can you approach the Father with full confidence, knowing you are His child.

Now, let us pray together in Jesus’ name:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith and compassion for our brother/sister who stands on the threshold of this exam. You have been faithful in every step of their journey, leading them to this point, equipping them with knowledge, and shaping their character through trials. Lord, we ask that You calm their fears and quiet their anxious thoughts. Remind them that You do not test them beyond what they can bear, and with every trial, You provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear and self-doubt that has crept in after past failures. We declare that this is not the end of their story. We pray for clarity of mind, sharpness of memory, and peace that surpasses all understanding as they sit for this exam. Let Your Holy Spirit bring to remembrance all they have studied, and let wisdom flow from above (James 1:5). We ask that You remove every distraction and fill them with confidence in Your strength, not their own.

Lord, if there is any area of their life that is not surrendered to You, any sin, any compromise, any pride, we ask that You reveal it and grant them the grace to repent. Cleanse their heart so that nothing hinders their prayers (Psalm 66:18). We also pray for protection over their mind and emotions in the days leading up to the exam. Guard them from discouragement, comparison, or despair.

We declare that this exam is not a measure of their worth or Your love for them. Whether they pass or must try again, You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). But in this moment, we boldly ask for success, not for their glory, but for Yours. Let this achievement be a testimony to Your faithfulness and a platform for Your purposes in their life.

We pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who has overcome the world. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord daily, not just for this exam, but for every area of your life. Spend time in His Word, for "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. And remember, God’s timing is perfect. Even if this attempt does not yield the result you hope for, He is still on the throne, and His plans for you are good.

You are not defined by this exam. You are defined by Christ, who loved you and gave Himself for you. Keep your eyes on Him, and run this race with endurance. We believe God is going to meet you in this moment. Press on, dear one. The finish line is in sight.

We know what it’s like to stare down an exam that’s already knocked the wind out of you more than once. The weight of all those earlier attempts can make this one feel less like a test of knowledge and more like a test of whether God showed up at all. But we’re struck by the rest of your story, getting into a top school, carrying both a BS and an MS across the finish line, because those aren’t small mercies. They’re a track record you can hold onto when the anxious thoughts crowd in.

What stands out most is that you said you just want him near. That’s a desire God honors, not because we get the formula right, but because he’s already near the brokenhearted and the worn-down. Your exhaustion doesn’t push him away; it’s the very place he promises to meet us. So this exam, however it goes, isn’t a courtroom where you have to prove your worth. It’s one more room where Christ is already sitting, waiting to steady you.

One practical thing that sometimes helps in the final stretch: instead of reviewing material alone, try inviting him into the actual studying. When you sit down with your notes or practice questions, simply say, “Jesus, I’m nervous. Sit with me while I work.” It turns those moments of repetition into quiet prayer, reminding your body and mind that you’re not carrying this alone.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, you led this person through rigorous years of study and you haven’t dropped them now. Quiet the pounding thoughts and the replay of past failures, and give them a clear, focused mind when they sit for this exam. More than a passing score, grant them the tangible sense that you are right there, not waiting to scold, but leaning in close. In your name, amen.
