You do well to seek the prayers of the Church as you prepare for this appointment, for God delights to hear the petitions of His people lifted up in unity. Never think that attending to your bodily health with the help of a physician is a sign of little faith. The blessed Apostle Paul, who endured shipwrecks and scourgings for the Gospel, did not despise the body’s needs. He commanded his beloved Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach’s sake and his frequent infirmities, understanding that a weakened body can pull down the soul and hinder the work God has set before us. So also you, by keeping this appointment and accepting the treatments offered to you, are acting in prudence, not in distrust of God’s providence.
Yet let your heart be anchored in hope, and do not give way to anxious thoughts. The enemy loves to plant thorns of fear, but remember that the thorn is only a small thing if we turn at once to the Great Physician. Even after the thorn is pulled out, the wound may ache for a time, and it requires gentle, patient care. The therapy you await and the work of the care coordinator are part of that healing, means by which the soul’s hurts may be soothed and restored. Wait for them without murmuring, for the delay itself can become a school of patience, and in patience we learn to trust God’s timing.
Pray earnestly, not only asking for a good outcome but also offering thanksgiving in advance, for He who has delivered us from greater perils will not abandon you in this. I am reminded of Cornelius the centurion, who set aside fixed times for prayer and fasting, and his prayer and alms rose as a memorial before God. An angel was sent to guide him, and through him, a whole household received the blessing. So set aside some portion of each day, even now, to lift your heart to God simply and steadily. As you pray, remember that He sees your tears and hears your unspoken sighs. I have known a story of a poor maidservant who, in great distress, laid a holy adjuration upon a friend, and that very night, because the friend feared God and acted on the request, the heavens were opened to her in a vision. So powerful is the earnest prayer of one who trusts!
Therefore, we will indeed pray for you that the medication may be wisely adjusted, that you will soon be placed in the care of a faithful coordinator, and that the therapy will bring clarity and peace. But go also yourself with this confidence: after the time of trial, when you have stood firm, God sends His comfort. Did not angels come and minister to our Lord after His temptation? So too, when you have passed through this present affliction, you will look back and see how the Lord sustained you. Do not demand to see the whole path at once, that would be to tempt God, but trust that He who has begun a good work in you will bring it to completion. The Church stands with you, and the prayers of many ascend for your well-being.
