Anger

We hear your cry and we join with you in seeking God's strength to release this anger, and we thank you for asking in the high and holy name of Jesus, for it is through Him we have access to the Father.

The Word reminds us that anger itself can become a foothold for sin if we hold onto it. We are told in James 1:19-20, So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. And also in Eph 4:26-27, Be angry, and don't sin. Don't let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil. God understands the feelings that rise up in us when we are hurt, wronged, or frustrated, but He calls us to not let that anger take root and rule us.

We are encouraged to lay it down before Him. Psalm 37:8 says, Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don't fret, it leads only to evildoing. And Eph 4:31-32 instructs us, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. When we cling to anger we carry a burden God never intended for us to bear, and forgiveness, as Christ forgave us, is the path to freedom. This does not mean what hurt you was right, but it means you entrust justice to God, for Romans 12:19 reminds us, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We lift up this dear one who is burdened by anger and longs to be free. Lord, pour out Your strength where there is weakness, Your peace where there is turmoil. By Your Holy Spirit, help us to put off the old nature and to walk in self-control and gentleness, which is the fruit of Your Spirit as taught in Gal 5:22-23. Teach us to be slow to anger and quick to forgive, to release every hurt and offense into Your hands, and to not give the enemy a foothold through unresolved wrath. Fill this heart with Your love and calm, and renew the mind through Your Word, so that anger is replaced with Your perfect peace. We ask that You heal the wounds beneath the anger and help us to walk in kindness and tenderheartedness as You have shown us in Christ. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to bring this anger to God daily in honest prayer, to confess it and ask for His help moment by moment. Meditate on His Word, especially when those feelings rise, and ask the Holy Spirit to produce His fruit in you. If there is a specific person or situation fueling this anger, seek to forgive as Christ forgave you, and if needed seek wise and godly counsel to walk through reconciliation or healthy boundaries. God is faithful to give you strength to let go and to restore you with His peace that passes all understanding.

Thank you for reaching out so honestly. Wanting to let go of anger and asking for God's strength is a brave and good step, and we are glad to stand with you in it.

What we have seen is that anger often starts as a signal that something hurt or felt unjust, but when it stays and gets rehearsed it can harden into something heavier that weighs mostly on the person carrying it. Letting go is rarely a single moment. There is the quiet decision to release the right to get even, and then there is the slower work of the heart catching up as feelings ease over time. Both matter, and God is patient with us in both.

One small practice that helps many is to notice the moment anger rises, pause, and honestly name it before God in a sentence or two, then choose your next response after that pause rather than inside the heat of it. If you can, share this struggle this week with one trusted pastor or mature friend who can pray with you regularly and check in.

Father, we bring our brother before You and ask for Your strength today. Calm what is stirred, soften what has grown hard, and teach him how to release what he was never meant to carry alone. Give him wisdom for each moment anger comes and peace as he walks with You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Father, humbly ask for Your power to intervene. Please meet deepest spiritual, physical, emotional, financial needs according to Your Will and timing in Jesus Name Amen
"May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace." Numbers 6:24-26

Your honest cry for strength to be freed from anger has been heard, and it is a good and needful prayer. There is forgiveness with God, and there is power with Him also to make you whole. You have come to the right place, for He who pardons sin also subdues it.

Scripture gives this wise direction, Let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Anger harbored in the heart becomes a burden that poisons the soul and hinders prayer. It is said that two friends who had differed greatly and spoken very bitterly remembered this precept as the sun was going down, and one said, I must not let the sun go down on my wrath, and went to be reconciled. So may the Lord help you to do quickly what grace prompts you to do, to let it go and not to carry it into another day.

Consider the pattern set before us, Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. Our Lord gently rebuked His disciples but He never spoke to them in anger, and His life of forgiveness was crowned by His dying prayer for His persecutors, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. This forgiveness which He gives is most free, we did nothing to obtain it by merit, and He forgave us for Christ's sake, not for aught that we had done. It is complete, He keeps no back reckonings, He retains no reserves of anger, and it is an eternal forgiveness. Divine pardon is a continuous act, and the same grace that pardons you will teach and enable you to pardon others.

When these stirrings of anger arise within your heart, go and stand once more at the foot of the Cross and look at your suffering Lord. See what it cost Him to bear sin, and remember that if you are the chief of sinners you may have forgiveness, for there is forgiveness with Him that He may be feared. Go straight to God for pardon and for power through Jesus Christ His Son, for He has it in His immediate gift and has it ready to bestow. Confess the anger plainly, ask Him to take it from you, and believe that He is able to keep you.

We pray for you now, that the Lord will give you His strength to release this anger, to keep a soft and tender heart, and to walk in the same forgiveness you have received. May He fill you with His peace, help you to forgive as you have been forgiven, and guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. In Jesus name we ask this, trusting that He who has begun a good work will continue it.
