Beloved of All
Your prayer has been heard and I am joining you in prayer for your eyesight and for peace in your heart in this anxious time.
I understand how frightening this fear is. The worry about losing your sight can take hold of your thoughts very quickly. Scripture shows us that fear often comes when our attention shifts away from the Lord and onto the problem itself. When Peter stepped out onto the water to come to Jesus, he was safe while his eyes were on the Lord, but when he began to look at the wind and the waves, fear gripped him and he began to sink. In the same way, when we focus on the threat, faith is pushed aside, because fear and faith cannot live together in the same place. Where one is allowed to rule, the other leaves.
The cure for that kind of fear is to remember the Lord. David said, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. Remembering who He is, His greatness, His power, His presence with you right now, quiets the heart. Greater is He who is with you than any threat that is against you. Fear tries to drive us to make hurried and unwise decisions, but faith brings us to rest and to act with calm wisdom.
There is a different kind of fear that God does want us to have, and it is not a phobia or dread. It is a reverent awe of Him. That reverence is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom. It means to love what God loves and to hate what is evil, to stand in awe of who He is. When that awe fills our meditation on Him, we gain a steady confidence. The promise is that those who live in that reverence lack no good thing, and the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being taken. You do not need to be afraid of sudden fear or of destruction when it comes, because the Lord Himself watches over you.
Jesus showed His tender compassion again and again by healing those who came to Him. The Gospels record Him healing the sick, touching some, speaking a word for others, healing some instantly and others gradually. Every healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes He has built into our bodies, and whether it touches the body, the mind or the emotions. He has borne our infirmities and He hears when we cry to Him. He has not despised the affliction of the afflicted, but when we cry, He hears.
So do what is wise and prudent for your eyes. Seek the care you need from doctors and follow their guidance, not because fear is driving you, but because it is wise stewardship of the health God has given you. Whether you are at home or under care, God is able to protect and keep you. You do not have to hide away in fear for Him to guard you.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this dear one before You. You see the fear about eyesight and the plea not to become blind. Lord, calm this heart with Your presence. Dispel fear and strengthen faith. Let Your peace guard this mind. I ask You to protect these eyes, to preserve sight, and to bring healing according to Your mercy and will. Guide the hands of any doctors and give wisdom for every step of care. Help this loved one to keep eyes fixed on You, to remember You are with them, that You are their light and salvation. May they know You hear their cry and that You will supply what is needed. In Jesus name, Amen.
