Thank you for sharing this request and letting us join you in prayer for your cousin on this birthday. It is a good and joyful thing to bring loved ones before the Lord with thanksgiving, and we are glad to stand with you.
Scripture tells us that God made a covenant of blessing with Abraham, promising in blessing I will bless you, and that this blessing would come to all nations. That promise is fulfilled through Jesus Christ. By faith in Him, we become children of Abraham and enter into that covenant, receiving the blessing God promised. Our prayer for your cousin is that this blessing would rest upon his life in a real and personal way, that he would know the love and grace of God through Jesus, and that his life would be filled with the richness of knowing the Lord. If he already knows Christ, we pray that his faith would grow stronger and his walk more joyful. If he has not yet trusted Christ, our first prayer is that he would come to know Jesus as Savior, for that relationship is what opens the door to true prayer and to every spiritual blessing.
We are taught to continue in prayer and to watch with thanksgiving, to stay alert and earnest and not give up. Prayer is not an attempt to change God's mind, but a way of bringing our hearts into agreement with His will so that His purposes may be done on earth as they are in heaven. The earnest, heartfelt prayer of a righteous person has great power because God hears those who come to Him through His Son. When we have been made His children through faith in Jesus, we can come to Him as Father, and He hears us.
So we pray now for your cousin. Father, we thank You for his life and for the years You have given him. We ask that You would bless him, keep him, and cause Your face to shine upon him. Draw him close to Jesus, give him faith, joy, peace, and guidance for the year ahead, and let Your goodness and mercy follow him all his days. Work Your will in his life and make him a witness of Your grace to others. We thank You for hearing our prayer and we trust You to answer according to Your perfect love and wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen.
