Small things matter Friday 23rd November 2018 'Who has despised the day of small things?' Zechariah 4:10 NKJV Let's admit it, sometimes we do think that bigger and brighter is better. But throughout the Bible we see God using small things, and those who seem to have little to offer, to bring about his plan and advance his Kingdom. When God gave Gideon victory over the Midianites, he used an army of just three hundred to defeat an enemy of hundreds of thousands (see Judges 7) - not because there weren't enough soldiers, but because God wanted to demonstrate his power in 'the day of small things.' Jesus could have chosen any number of followers, but he handpicked twelve to reach the world with the Gospel. One day he fed five...
I think that the most horrible thing about the abuse going on in my home is the secrecy. I had tried to talk to people, but they were people who could not understand or I made them uncomfortable or they did not want to hear yet another sad story so they tuned me out, dismissed me as 'troubled' and went on. Some referred me to counseling with video chats--not helpful since I am already so isolated and need contact with another human being. Sometimes I just need a listening heart to hear or common sense suggestions. In the heat of the vile language and accusations made to me in the course of a day, hearing good words is important for me. It's all verbal abuse. And returning the words at him is not helpful for either of us. My heart...
There is so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day; but what is foremost in my mind is God’s promise of grace and mercy. I am reminded of a personal, or perhaps not so personal experience, from a couple years ago, which I am compelled to share. Thanksgiving Day 2016 It was during the height of living on the streets, on a slightly chilly morning, as that Thanksgiving Day began, nevertheless, a day that I was looking forward to with eager anticipation. It had been about three days since I had eaten. Now, I could be extra spiritual, right about along through here, and proclaim that I was on some sort of Righteous and Holy fast for the good...
Wisdom when working Thursday 22nd November 2018 'Happy is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gets understanding.' Proverbs 3:13 NCV The Bible often encourages us to gain or use wisdom. One important place to exercise wisdom is when we're working. We might think it's honourable to be constantly occupied, but that isn't using good judgment. Here are a few things to bear in mind: (1) Know what to say yes to. We might be tempted to do many things in our day-to-day lives. And we say yes, because it's considered being helpful. But we can end up getting burned out. So, it's a good idea to ask God which tasks we should prioritise our energy on. (2) Take time to stop and recharge. In Genesis 2:2, God took time to rest. In Luke...
Love so much this wonderful verse that says... Devote yourselves to prayer being watchful and thankful. Col. 4.2 Be thankful to Jesus for all the wonderful things He has brought to your life. Every accident that never happened. Your health is in good condition. That every tornado or fire that never came. For a family that loves the Lord. Be ye thankful to the Lord for the wonderful things He has brought to your life.
Yes, Jesus is our hiding place. He has promised all of us to be with everyone who believe in Him. He will never ever leave us nor forsake us. You o Lord are my hiding place. You always fill my heart with songs of deliverance. Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. I will trust in You. Our minds will be in its place, in the place of joy and peace when we make our Lord and Savior our hiding place in which to rest.
Confess and be free (5) Wednesday 21st November 2018 'The Lord looks at the heart.' 1 Samuel 16:7 NLT Why do we hide our sins? We might feel ashamed, afraid of the consequences, afraid to reveal that we're not as perfect as we appear. Much of the time, it's about the fear of revealing the difference between our public image and our private one. We can also be uneasy about revealing our sins to God. We might avoid spending time with him because we know we're hiding things. But, actually, those are the times when we should be running to him and clinging more closely to him. The Bible tells us that 'the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought' (1 Chronicles 28:9 NIV). God knows our best and our...
