Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this burden for those in the path of high winds and heavy rain. We join you in praying that the Lord would calm the winds and keep people safe through the storms and flooding.
The power of nature is humbling. Scripture describes it well when it says the floods lift up their voice and the floods lift up their waves, but the Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters. That is our comfort. The roar of wind and water is great, but our God is greater and He remains sovereign over them.
We live in a world where violent winds and storms are now part of life. Before the great flood in the days of Noah the earth was very different, without the sharp contrasts of heat and cold that now drive strong winds and stir the atmosphere. Since that judgment, with the great changes that followed, these powerful movements of air and water have become common. Yet nothing in them is outside Gods control. Even when winds are contrary and people cannot steer their own course, when waves crash and life feels at the mercy of the storm, He is still guiding and directing. Nothing happens by mere chance. There is a pattern and purpose in His hands even when we cannot see it.
That is why it is so glorious to have the Lord with us in the storms of life. As He invited Noah into the ark to be safe through the judgment, so He invites us into Christ, our place of refuge and protection today. In Him we have safety that no wind or flood can take away.
God has also given a precious promise that He will never again destroy the whole earth and all flesh with a flood as He did in Noahs day. That covenant still stands. At the same time, in this present world there are still local floods and storms that bring real danger and hardship, and that is why your prayer for protection is so needed.
We are praying with you that God in His mercy would cause these winds to settle, would restrain the rains, would protect homes and families in flooded areas, and would keep those who serve and rescue others safe. We ask that He would draw many to seek shelter in Him, to know His peace in the midst of fear, and to see His mighty hand to save. May He guard all who are in harms way, before them and behind them, and bring calm after the storm in Jesus name, Amen.
