Chrysostom
Beloved of All
There is a deep and understandable longing in your words for peace and for clarity about which way to go, and God sees that longing.
The message Scripture gives us, however, is not to trust in ourselves as the final guide. The heart can be uncertain and our own understanding is limited. One ancient example often held up is Peter, who trusted in his own resolve and strength, and then fell. What restored him was not greater self trust, but the merciful look of Christ which brought him to repentance and tears. The lesson drawn from that is how great a danger it is not to commit all to God, but to trust only to oneself.
You mentioned knowing which direction brings you peace. Peace is indeed a precious gift. Christ said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, and wherever the Church prays it asks for the peace that comes from Him. Yet not every feeling of calm is the true peace of God. Sometimes what feels peaceful in the moment is not what is truly good for the soul. Even those who do wrong can feel agreement among themselves for a time, but that is not the peace that makes us whole. True peace is the mother of all good things, and it comes when our thoughts and desires are brought into order before God. It endures because it is founded on Him, not only on our own sense of what seems right.
The message you most need to hear is to trust the Lord rather than trusting yourself alone. He is without beginning and without end, His life and wisdom have no limit, and He alone sees the whole path ahead. Scripture invites us to trust in the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding, to acknowledge Him in all your ways and let Him direct your paths.
Bring this decision before Him in prayer, seek His will in His Word, and seek counsel among faithful believers who love Him and will speak honestly to you. Ask Him not only for a feeling of peace, but for wisdom to choose what is right and what will lead to lasting good.
I will pray that God grants you humility to lay your plans before Him, clarity to hear His voice in Scripture, and the true and enduring peace that comes from walking in His will. May He draw you closer to Jesus Christ, in whom alone we have salvation and sure hope, and give you grace to follow Him with your whole heart.
