This is about RESPECT for the human body and THE RESURRECTION of that same body, Just as Jesus was resurrected in His same nail-scarred, sword pierced, back scarred body, but glorified...
For a true believer, the
soul is absent from the body and
immediately present with the Lord, "for to be
absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Cor 5:8), Again, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. But if
I am to live
on in the flesh, this
will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. But I am hard-pressed from both
directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better" (Phil 1:21-23) "this day you will be with me in paradise" Jesus told the believing thief (Luke 23:43), again this refers to the soul, NOT the body -- we all know Jesus' BODY was laid in the grave and the thief probably buried in the common burial ground where Judas was thrown -- but this intermediate state has NOTHING to do with the resurrection of the BODY -- of which Christ is called, "the Firstfruits..."
- "But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET.
- "But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?” 36 You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; 37 and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
- "So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 47 The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly" (1 Cor 15:20-27; 35-49)...
The BIG concern and question every Christian should be asking,
How Does or Could Cremation Affect The Resurrection of The Dead? I believe God can reanimate dust, that still has DNA within it, but I'm not gambling with cremation -- I know the first dust had no DNA in it and He still "created man in His image" (Gen 1:27)... But I agree -- we never see another way in the Bible of "laying a body to rest" other than burial...
- "Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man's body into Elisha's tomb. When the body touched Elisha's bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet" (2 kings 13:21)...
So I wouldn't roll the dice and explain to God at the resurrection why He should still resurrect you after cremation. I don't want to have that discussion with God -- Scripture says "no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it" (Eph 5:29). It doesn't seem very nourishing or cherishing to incinerate flesh...
- "Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church" (Eph 5:29).
There are times when people man be incinerated in am accident or fire, but that is the exception, not the rule. Singular circumstances never invalidate a perpetual example in Scripture. God Bless...
