Well taken care of in a hospital-my ###+healed

Your love and concern for your mother comes through so clearly in your request, and your sorrow over what she is carrying is deeply understandable. To see a mother face a possible stroke while already living with Alzheimer in a late stage, diabetes, depression, heart and blood pressure problems, and possible kidney trouble, and to know she lost her husband a year ago, is a heavy burden for you and your brother to carry. It is right that you feel her pain. God sees that love.

Be assured that she is not alone, even when she may not be able to tell you how she feels. Scripture calls God the God of all comfort, the One who stands by His people in the darkest hours and in hard places to strengthen and encourage them. The apostle Paul knew this in his own afflictions and in that long storm at sea when for many days there was no sun, and he found the Lord standing by to comfort him. That same comfort is available to your mother now. There is consolation in Christ, comfort in His love, and fellowship in the Spirit, with compassion and mercy. Even when memory and understanding are clouded, His presence can bring a quietness and a sense of being held and cared for that goes beyond words. We are praying that the Lord will surround her on every side, that she will sense His nearness, and that He will give her peace and freedom from worry about you and your brother, and from the ache of missing you.

Pray also that the Lord will provide skilled and kind care through the doctors and nurses who are with her. Every true healing process is from God, whether it comes in a moment or gradually through the natural processes He has built into the body and through the hands of those who care for the sick. We are asking God to guide those caring for her and to let her be treated with gentleness and dignity.

Your desire to honor your mother is precious to God. Scripture says to honor father and mother, and in its full meaning that includes caring for them when they are old and can no longer care for themselves as they once cared for us. The fact that you cannot be with her as much as your father was is not a failure. You and your brother are doing what love requires by seeking the Lord for her and by wanting her best good. The Lord knows the limits of your time and strength, and He does not measure your love by hours.

We also bring your prayer for healing to Jesus, as a mother once came to Him in great desperation for her daughter and would not go away until she received His mercy. We can come to Him in the same way, with persistent faith, and we believe He is still able to heal today. He healed in many different ways, sometimes with a touch, sometimes with a word, sometimes instantly and once gradually, and He is not bound to one pattern. Healing remains His sovereign work. It is in His hands, and it is not right to put a heavy burden on the sick or on their family as if faith could force His hand. We do not always understand why some are healed completely and others are not in the way we hope, but we can trust His wisdom and goodness.

So we pray with you that in Jesus name God would touch your mother from the top of her head to the soles of her feet, according to His perfect will. We ask for His mercy on her body, mind, and spirit, for relief where there is distress, for stability for her heart and blood pressure and kidneys, for help after this possible stroke, and for His comfort in her grief and depression. And even as we ask for physical healing, we ask that He would do a deep work of comfort and peace within her, lifting heaviness and letting her know she is loved and not forgotten.

Father, thank You that You are the God of all comfort. We lift this dear mother to You. Let her know Your presence in that hospital room, let her feel cared for and safe, and quiet any fear or worry about her children. Give wisdom and kindness to all who care for her. Lay Your healing hand upon her as You will, whether through a sudden touch or through gradual restoration, and above all let her heart be consoled by Your love. Comfort her children as well, as they grieve her husband's death with her and feel they cannot do enough. Remind them that You see their honor for their mother and that You will supply what they cannot. In the name of Jesus we ask for Your mercy and peace. Amen.
