[Chrysostom]

I join you in giving thanks to God for this prayer of the Apostle Paul, and I thank God for your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints. Paul never ceased to remember whole churches in his prayers with great yearning and affection, and so we also remember you before the Father of glory.

My prayer for you is that God will give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. This is not wisdom from ourselves, but the work of the Holy Spirit in us to know Christ truly, to see Him as He is, the brightness of the Father's glory who upholds all things and who purged our sins and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. We need the eyes of our heart to be flooded with light, because without that light we cannot grasp what God has done for us.

I pray that those enlightened eyes will let you know three things. First, the hope of His calling, that you will see clearly the great and sure future He has called you to in His kingdom. Second, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, that you will understand the immeasurable value He places on His people and the inheritance He has prepared and promised to those who do what is right. Third, the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, the same mighty strength which He exerted when He raised Messiah from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, both in this age and in the age to come.

That same power that raised Christ and set Him as Lord over all is now at work for you. As Christ is the Resurrection and the Life, present everywhere and able to heal and to save, so His resurrection is the proof and pledge that nothing can separate you from His love and that He is able to keep you and bring you to that kingdom where He will drink the cup anew with His own.

So I pray that you will be strengthened by His might through His Spirit in your inner being, that you may remain unshaken in trials and grow in the knowledge of the breadth and length and height and depth of His love, until you are filled with all the fullness of God. May the Lord grant you increasing light to know Him better, a firm hope in His calling, joy in His inheritance, and confidence in His resurrection power, in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
