We join with you in thanking our Father for this glorious prayer from the apostle Paul and we make it our own together in Jesus name.
We love how you have lifted up Ephesians 1:17-21, where Paul prays that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of our hearts enlightened, that we may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.
We agree that to know God intimately is the greatest treasure and the very essence of eternal life, for Jesus prayed in John 17:3 that this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ. We are reminded in Jeremiah 9:24 that he who boasts should boast in this, that he understands and knows the Lord. We do not know Him through mere intellectual study but through the Holy Spirit of wisdom and revelation, through Christ who is the image of the invisible God and the only way to the Father as Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
We rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus the Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to the Father and by which we are saved, as it is written in Acts 4:12 there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, and in Ephesians 2:18 through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
So we pray together with you, Father, we thank You for revealing Yourself to us through Your Son. We ask You to grant us that spirit of wisdom and revelation to know You more deeply each day. Flood the eyes of our hearts with light, that we may truly grasp the hope to which You have called us, the sure and living hope of being conformed to Christ and dwelling with You forever, and that we may understand the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints, that we are Your treasured people and You delight to call us Your own. And Father, cause us to know in experience the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe, the same mighty power You exerted when You raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand far above all rule and authority. Let that resurrection power strengthen us to walk in holiness, to stand against the schemes of the enemy, and to live with confidence that Christ reigns over all, both in this age and in the age to come.
We pray that we will not be content with knowing about You, but that we will press on to know You intimately as Paul desired in Philippians 3:10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection. Continue to draw us into Your Word, into prayer, and into obedience, for in 1 John 2:3 we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. May this prayer shape our daily lives as we seek first Your kingdom.
We thank You for hearing us when we pray according to Your will in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
