We hear your cry concerning warfare and the distress you feel from evil tongues in your neighborhood, among friends, family, in the workplace and around the world, and the fear that witchcraft, fetish, magic and attacks through animals are being sent against you. We stand with you in prayer for God's protection and deliverance, and we also must lovingly correct and rebuke the desire to see your foes plagued, killed and their blood shed like an ocean.
The Word teaches us that vengeance does not belong to us. Romans 12:19 says Vengeance is mine, and I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:14 says Bless those who persecute you. Bless, and do not curse. Our Lord Jesus calls us to a higher way when He says in Matthew 5:44 Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. We understand the pain of slander and oppression, but we are not to pray for the death and destruction of people made in God's image, even those who do evil against us. God desires their repentance, not their destruction, for 2 Peter 3:9 says He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, and 1 Timothy 2:4 says God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth.
We also must understand the nature of our warfare. Ephesians 6:12 says For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Your battle is not ultimately against your neighbors or coworkers as people, but against the spiritual forces of darkness working behind evil tongues and witchcraft. When you cite Exodus 22:18, Exodus 7:14-24, Exodus 8, Exodus 9, Exodus 10, Exodus 11, Exodus 12, Joshua 11:11, 2 Chronicles 20:22-25 and Genesis 19:24, those were sovereign acts of God's judgment upon nations in His redemptive history, not a model for us to call down personal curses, plagues and death upon individuals around us. Even the psalms of distress like Psalm 35:1 and Psalm 94:1 cry out for God to contend and to judge righteously, while leaving the execution of justice to Him alone. 2 Chronicles 20:15 reminds us The battle is not yours, but God's.
We do not deny that witchcraft, sorcery and evil speech are real and God hates them, but we pray that the works of darkness be broken and burned up and reduced to nothing, not that the people themselves be destroyed without mercy. We pray for the power of those sanctuaries and fetishes to be rendered powerless and brought to nothing by the cross of Christ, while praying that those who practice them would be convicted, delivered and saved.
We are thankful that you prayed in Jesus' name, for it is only by that name we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is through Jesus' blood and authority, not our curses, that we overcome.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We ask for Your mercy and Your protection over our dear one who feels surrounded and oppressed. We put on the whole armor of God according to Ephesians 6:11 that we may stand against the wiles of the devil. We declare that 1 John 4:4 You who are in us are greater than he who is in the world, and that Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against you will prevail, and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. Lord, silence every evil tongue that speaks lies and slander, not by harming the speaker, but by Your truth and by vindicating Your child. We ask You to break, expose and render powerless every form of witchcraft, fetish, magic and sorcery sent against Your child, and let every sanctuary of darkness be consumed by Your holy fire and come to nothing, as You alone judge. We do not ask for the blood of our enemies to be shed, we ask that You would shed Your mercy upon them, convict them of sin and bring them to repentance and salvation in Jesus. Where there is fear of animals or plagues or curses, we pray Psalm 91:1-2 over this life, that he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, and will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Give peace that passes understanding, guard the heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and teach us to love our enemies and to overcome evil with good as Romans 12:21 says. Let Your will be done, let Your kingdom come in this neighborhood, this family and this workplace, and let the battle be Yours, Lord. We trust You to fight for us and to repay with perfect justice and perfect mercy. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, in the Word and in fellowship, to bless those who have hurt you, to forgive as Christ forgave us, and to walk in holiness and not in fear. The Lord is your defender and your refuge, and He will keep you.
