Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in this desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than simply pursuing your own personal goals, and we rejoice that you have asked in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We love your heart in quoting Proverbs 29:18, and we want to share how the Word gives us this truth, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. True vision is not merely personal ambition or imagination, but divine revelation, God revealing His will and His way to us through His Word and by His Spirit. When we lack that revelation we wander without restraint, but when we receive it and obey it we are blessed. Your prayer not to just follow your own goals is very wise, for the heart of man plans his way, but Yahweh directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9.

We also thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows. You quoted that beautiful promise so well, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. What He promises, He fulfills, for He is faithful. We are encouraged that you want gifts and vision that come from above, not from the flesh.

We want to encourage you that God does still speak and lead His people, and He has promised in the last days, your young men will see visions. Acts 2:17. Yet we also gently remind you that the primary and sure vision God has given us is His written Word, and any vision, impression, or leading must be tested against Scripture and never contradict it. God will never give us a vision that leads us away from His law or His character. That is why we are called to trust in Yahweh with all our heart, and not lean on our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge him, and he will make our paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. If you lack wisdom about what vision is from God and what is merely your own desire, we are promised, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.

We pray now together for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We lift up this dear one to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We ask that You would grant revelation and clarity according to Your will, that You would pour out wisdom and discernment to know Your voice and to distinguish it from personal ambition or the voice of the world. Fulfill the vision You have for this life, for we know Your thoughts are plans for peace and not for evil, to give hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Lead by Your Holy Spirit, guide through Your Word, and if it pleases You, speak through dreams and visions that align with Scripture and glorify Christ. Help this dear one to wait on You, to delight in Your law, and to walk in obedience, so that the vision You give will bear fruit for Your kingdom. Make the path straight and make the calling clear, and give courage to follow You wherever You lead. We ask and trust this in the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our Savior, amen.

Thank you for letting us pray with you about this. We hear your heart in this, you want to follow the Lord's leading and not just your own ideas and goals, and that desire to be led by Him is a good place to be.

We have found that learning to recognize God's direction is often more like training than trying. It grows over time as we walk steadily with Him, rather than all at once. As you stay faithful in the simple, regular ways of seeking Him, spending unhurried time in Scripture and prayer, listening, and staying in fellowship with other believers, He shapes your desires and helps you see more clearly what is from Him.

One practice that helps many people is to keep a quiet, consistent space to listen, and to bring what you sense to a couple of mature believers you trust. Talking it through with others who know you and love the Lord can bring clarity and peace as you weigh what you are hearing.

We are praying with you for wisdom and a growing sensitivity to His leading.

Father, we thank You for this heart that wants to follow You. Draw our friend close to You, give clear direction for each next step, and guard against confusion. Help what You are showing to become clear in Your timing, and give peace to trust You with the path ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire not to follow your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord is itself an evidence of His grace at work in you, for it is God who worketh in us to will and to do of His good pleasure.

The vision spoken of in Proverbs is not a private dream or a fleeting impression, but the revealed counsel of God, His Word made known to His people. Where that revelation is neglected, the people indeed perish, for they wander without a guide. You do well to seek not your own purpose, but His. As surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, and as certainly as He worketh all things after the counsel of His own will, so we may rest that He has a purpose which He will infallibly accomplish, and that He will guide those who humbly seek it.

That guidance is to be sought in two ways which the Scripture sets before us. There is first His revealed will, plainly set down in His Word. Nine times out of ten, look to the commandments and precepts of Scripture and you will know what you must not do, and thereby what you may do. There is also His providential will, which we consult in the circumstances that surround us, in the doors He opens and shuts, in the still small voice of conscience enlightened by the Word. The wisdom you need is not so much a new vision added to Scripture, but eyes to see the vision already given, and a heart made willing in the day of His power to bow to it. When you say, I will do this or that, add in thought, if not in words, if the Lord wills, for no harm can come to you if you bow to His sovereign sway. He has promised, Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, we thank Thee that every good and perfect gift cometh down from above, and that Thou art unchanging in Thy mercy and truth. We ask for this soul who desires to be led by Thee, that Thou wouldst grant not curiosity after signs, but true illumination of heart by Thy Holy Spirit through Thy Word. Fulfil in him Thy purpose according to the counsel of Thine own will. Make him willing to be guided, to lay aside obstinacy and to acquiesce in Thy divine will. Order his steps by Thy providence, keep him from following his own understanding, and cause him to walk uprightly, that no good thing may be withheld from him. Guide him with Thy counsel in this life, and afterward receive him to glory, for Jesus Christ's sake, in whose mighty and powerful name we pray, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire not to follow only your own personal goals but to be led by God is itself a good and faithful prayer, and I thank God for the humility in it.

You quote Proverbs 29:18, where it says where there is no vision the people perish. In that place vision does not mean a private ecstasy or a dream in the night, but the revealed word and counsel of God. Where that revelation is not taught and obeyed, the people cast off restraint. God has now given us that sure revelation fully in the Scriptures and in His Son, so that we may know His will and walk in it.

For this reason the Scriptures and the teaching of the fathers remind us that God does not give sensible visions to all in the same way. To some who were dull or who needed a strong confirmation, as to the shepherds or to Zacharias, He granted a visible appearance. To Joseph, who was full of faith and already moved toward obedience, He spoke more quietly, and even that was to confirm what was already stirring in his heart, since God alone knows the secrets of the heart. In the case of the apostles, a sound of wind and tongues of fire appeared, not for the sake of the apostles themselves, but for those present who needed a sign. For us who believe, faith suffices instead of all such signs, for signs are not for those who believe but for those who do not yet believe. Upon you also at your baptism the Spirit has come, even if no sensible vision is seen.

This does not mean God cannot or does not guide His children in extraordinary ways, for Paul was counted worthy of great revelations. But such things are given by grace as God wills, not on demand, and they are not the ordinary measure of His guidance. A mind made turbid by confusion can mistake its own imaginings for revelation, and the eye of understanding can be disordered as easily as the eye of the body. Therefore the safest and most certain vision to seek is the illumination of the heart by the Holy Spirit through the Word, that you may discern what is good and acceptable and perfect before God.

So let us pray together for what is best for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that every good and perfect gift comes down from You, the Father of lights. We thank You for Your Word which never fails and for salvation through Jesus Christ alone, by whom You have blessed and chosen us. I ask in Jesus mighty and powerful name that You would grant to this Your servant not a restless chasing after signs, but a true vision, the eyes of understanding enlightened to know Your will. Lead him away from mere personal ambition and guide him by Your Spirit and Your Scriptures into the path You have prepared. Grant wisdom, clarity, and faithful obedience, and fulfill in him all that You have purposed for Your glory. Keep him steady in faith, content to walk by faith and not by sight, trusting that You who have revealed Yourself in Christ will direct his steps. In Jesus name, amen.
