Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We rejoice with you in your desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we join you in prayer for this in Jesus' name.

Your heart reflects what Scripture teaches, that we are to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding, and in all our ways acknowledge him and he will direct our paths Proverbs 3:5-6. It is good that you quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently encourage you in its true meaning. In the World English Bible it says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed Proverbs 29:18. The vision spoken of there is the revealed word and will of God. Without God's revelation through His Word and by His Spirit, people wander without restraint. So your prayer for vision is truly a prayer for revelation, for God's revealed will to guide you.

We also thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows, for every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow James 1:17. Because He is unchanging and faithful, we can trust that any true vision He gives He will also fulfill in His timing. He declares For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11.

We do believe God still speaks and can give visions and dreams, as He promised It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams Acts 2:17. Yet we also encourage you to seek His primary and sure revelation in Scripture, for Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path Psalm 119:105, and to test every impression or vision against His Word, for we are told to test all things and hold firmly that which is good 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and to test the spirits whether they are of God 1 John 4:1. A true vision from God will never contradict His Word, will exalt Christ, and will lead you closer to holiness and obedience.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation, and that You give good and perfect gifts to Your children. We lift up this dear one to You in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. We ask that You pour out Your Spirit upon them and grant them clear revelation of Your will, whether through Your Word, through godly counsel, through visions or dreams as it pleases You, so that they may not walk according to their own personal goals but according to Your perfect plan. Help them not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of their mind, so that they may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2. Give them wisdom liberally as You have promised to all who ask without reproach James 1:5, give them a humble and obedient heart to follow what You reveal, and give them patience to wait for Your timing to fulfill what You have shown. Let their life bear fruit for Your glory and keep them in Your peace. In Jesus' mighty and powerful name we pray, amen.

Thank you for sharing this honest desire to follow God's leading rather than just your own plans. We hear how much you want Him to shape your direction, and we admire that heart.

We find that when we ask God for vision, He often answers less through a sudden picture and more through a growing clarity as we stay close to Him. He shapes our desires as we spend time with Him, listen, and walk obediently in what we already know is His will. That helps us tell the difference between our own ideas and His gentle leading, and wise counsel from others who know us can help confirm it.

A simple next step that may help is to set aside a few unhurried minutes each day this week to bring your goals before the Lord in prayer, listen quietly, and note what seems to align with His character and ways. Sharing those notes with a pastor or mature believer you trust can bring added wisdom and peace as you discern next steps.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to lead Your children. Give our friend a clear sense of Your purposes and a humble, willing heart to follow where You guide. Grant wisdom, patience and confidence to walk one step at a time with You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing for a vision that is not of yourself but of God is a gracious sign, for naturally we do not like being guided, but the grace of God dethrones obstinacy and gives us acquiescence in the Divine will.

The vision of which Solomon speaks in Proverbs 29:18 is not a fleeting dream of our own imagination, but Divine revelation, the sure Word out of God's mouth by which a man may live. Give me but a Word from God and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth apart from Divine Inspiration are unsatisfying. Therefore the prayer to be guided aright is to be guided first by the general directions given in God's Word, and then by the great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to His counsel.

It is well to ask as Scripture teaches, Have you received the Holy Spirit? Are you living under His Divine influence and filled with His power? For we must continue to live by receiving. We received Christ Jesus the Lord at the first, and now we receive the Holy Spirit, and at bottom everything depends upon what we receive. When self goes, God comes in, and when human wisdom goes, then God's Wisdom appears, dressed in robes of love and tenderness, inviting us to run into her arms.

So I pray with you and for you, that the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, from whom cometh down every good gift and every perfect gift, will make you His pupil. As David said, O God, You have taught me from my youth, so may you be taught of God through His Word and by His Spirit, to see His wondrous works and to be made willing in the day of His power to do the Divine bidding.

Heavenly Father, fulfil in this seeking one the vision which is according to Your will. Grant not a vision born of personal goals, but that true sight which comes by Your counsel, that by Your Holy Spirit this life may be guided with Your counsel and afterward received to glory. Let Divine Grace so teach and lead, that Your Wisdom and Your love may be manifested in temporal trials and in daily obedience, to the praise of Your unchanging faithfulness. In the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, who alone is the way of salvation, we ask this, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire not to follow only your own personal goals but to be led by God is itself a good gift from Him, and it is right to bring it before Him in prayer.

Proverbs 29:18 when it speaks of vision does not mean a private ecstatic sight or a dream given on demand. In that place vision means the revealing of God's word and will to His people. Where that revelation is neglected, the people indeed cast off restraint and perish. We now have that sure revelation in the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make us wise for salvation and to guide us into all good works.

The Scriptures and the history of the Church show that God has indeed given visions, but He has done so according to His own wisdom and for His own purpose, not because we ask for a sign. To the Virgin and to Zacharias and to the shepherds a marvellous appearance was granted, because the tidings were exceeding great and some who heard were dull and needed to be moved. To Joseph, who was full of faith, the message came more quietly after his inward struggle, and the very fact that the angel told him the secret of his heart was proof that God knows what is hidden. To Peter the sheet let down from heaven was given to teach him not to call common what God had cleansed, that he might go to the Gentiles. To Paul great revelations were given, yet he was taught that signs are not for those who believe but for those who do not believe, and for those who believe, faith sufficing instead of all sensible signs is enough.

This teaches us that we should not seek visions as a mark of spirituality or as a necessary guide for every decision. God is unchanging, the Father of lights with whom there is no variation, and every good and perfect gift does come down from Him. The greatest gift He has given is His Son, and through Him the sure word of the Gospel and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, by whom we are taught and led.

So we will pray not that you would chase after sights and wonders, but that the eyes of your understanding would be enlightened to know His will as it is already revealed.

Let us pray together. Father of lights, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that Your word stands firm. We thank You for Your Son through whom You have blessed us and chosen us and made known Your counsel from the beginning. Grant to this Your servant a love for Your word, clarity to understand it, humility to receive correction from it, and wisdom to walk in it. Guard him from a disordered imagination and from confusing his own thoughts with Your voice. Give him faith that rests on what You have already spoken, and by Your Spirit lead him away from mere personal ambition into the good works which You have prepared for him to walk in. Make his path plain through Scripture, through prayer, and through wise counsel in the Church, and keep him steadfast in Christ until the end. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
