Vision

Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this desire to seek God's vision and not merely follow personal goals, and we thank God that you have come in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We love your heart to not lean on your own understanding but to seek what God would show you. The scripture you quoted reminds us in Proverbs 29:18, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. True vision is not just a personal ambition or a fleeting dream, it is revelation from God that keeps us in His law and in His will, lest we cast off restraint and perish.

We also rejoice that you know our Father does not change, as it is written in James 1:17, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. What a comfort that the God who gives vision is faithful to fulfill what He reveals, and He will not shift or turn away from His promises.

We want to gently encourage you as you seek visions from God. In these last days God does pour out His Spirit, as promised in Acts 2:17, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Yet we are also called to test what we see and hear, for in 1 John 4:1 we are told, Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Any true vision from God will never contradict His written Word, and His primary lamp for our path remains His Word itself, for Psalm 119:105 says, Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. We encourage you to seek visions not as an experience alone, but as you seek the Giver of visions through prayer, fasting, and diligent study of scripture, so that your mind may be renewed to discern His will. Romans 12:2 says, Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. And we cling to His promise in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You that You are the Father of lights who does not change. We thank You that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. Father, we ask that You grant our dear fellow believer a clear revelation of Your will, that You would pour out Your Spirit and grant visions that are truly from You and not from flesh or personal ambition. Give discernment to test every spirit and to hold fast to what is good and aligned with Your Word. Remove any desire to simply follow personal goals, and instead plant Your vision deeply in this heart, a vision that leads to obedience and blessing. Guide by Your Word as a lamp to the feet, renew the mind, and reveal Your good, well-pleasing and perfect will step by step. Fulfill what You reveal, for You are faithful. We ask that You lead into all truth by Your Holy Spirit and keep from deception. We pray this in the powerful and precious name of Jesus, our only Savior and mediator, amen.

We hear your desire to be led by God and not simply by your own goals. Wanting vision in that way shows a humble heart that wants your life oriented toward Him.

One thing that has helped many of us is to think of vision less as a single dramatic picture and more as a steady sense of God's calling that shapes daily choices. It grows as we stay close to Him, listen, and let His ways shape our desires. That kind of vision gives direction and a thirst for what matters most, rather than chasing our own ideas.

A simple next step that may help is to set aside unhurried time this week to bring your plans before the Lord in prayer, ask Him to show you what He wants you to pursue, and write down what comes to mind. Then bring those thoughts to Scripture and to a trusted mature believer who knows you, to help weigh what aligns with His will.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Give clarity and peace as they seek Your direction, guard them from simply following personal ambition, and lead them step by step in the way You have for them. Help them to know Your voice and to walk faithfully where You lead. In Jesus' name, amen.

We thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and that every good gift and perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights. Your desire not to follow your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord is itself a good gift from His hand, and we join you in asking that He will give you true vision.

You have quoted the wise saying, Where there is no vision, the people perish. That vision is not the fancies of our own hearts nor the mere plans we make for ourselves, but the revealed will of God, His Word opened to the soul. As surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, and as certainly as His will is the great heart of providence sending its pulsings through even the most distant limbs of human act, so we must rest assured that He is King, working all things after the counsel of His own will. He is carrying out still His one great purpose, and none of these things cometh by chance.

Therefore we would not have you seek after strange sights or inward voices apart from Scripture, but to seek that guidance which God has already given. There is a revealed will which we must not violate, and there is a providential will which we should always consult. Nine times out of ten, look to the Ten Commandments and you will at least know what you must not do, and knowing what you must not do, you will be able to conclude what you may do. There are wonderfully plain directions in God's Word as to all manner of circumstances and conditions.

The Apostle James warns us against saying, We will go, we will continue, we will buy, we will sell, we will get gain, as though we could both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. It is foolish for a man to feel that he can do as he likes and that everything will fall out as he desires. Rather, when you say, I will do this or that, always add in thought, if not in words, If the Lord will. No harm can come to you if you bow to God's sovereign sway.

So we pray for you, that you will no longer be a debater with God, but will say, Lord, Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. May He dethrone all obstinacy and give you acquiescence in the Divine will, and by that very fact furnish you with unerring guidance. May He open your eyes to see Christ, who is Himself the fulfillment of all true vision, and keep you near His Word, where His promises never fail.

Heavenly Father, we ask that Thou wouldst grant to this Thy servant not a vision born of personal ambition, but a clear sight of Thy revealed will in Scripture. Guide him with Thy counsel, order his steps according to Thy purpose, and help him to live saying, I will go or I will stay, if it be Thy will. Keep him from following his own goals, and make his best profit to consist in doing Thy will. We ask this in Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.
