We join with you in this desire to seek God's vision rather than simply following personal goals, and we thank you for asking in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.
We love your heart to want what God wants. Proverbs 29:18 says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. True vision is not merely a personal plan or ambition, but revelation from God that keeps us within His law and His will, so that we do not wander into our own understanding. You quoted James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and we rejoice with you that our God does not change and He is faithful to fulfill what He has promised.
We also want to gently encourage you in how to seek visions biblically. God does still speak and Acts 2:17 says It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Yet Scripture also teaches us to test what we see and hear, for 1 John 4:1 says Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Any vision from God will never contradict His written Word, for 2 Timothy 3:16 says Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. Therefore we seek not visions for their own sake, but we seek the Giver of visions Himself, and we ask for wisdom to discern His leading.
We also hear your prayer that you would not just follow your own personal goals. God does care about the plans of our hearts, but He calls us to submit them to Him. Proverbs 16:9 says A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps, and Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Vision from God aligns us with that hope and future, not with selfish ambition.
We pray together for you now.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with no variableness or shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We ask in the mighty name of Jesus that You would grant our dear one a clear revelation of Your will, according to Your perfect timing and purpose. Pour out Your Spirit and speak in the way You choose, whether through Your Word, through godly counsel, through visions or dreams that are truly from You. Give discernment to test every spirit and to hold fast to what is good and to reject what is not from You. Lead away from merely pursuing personal goals and draw ever closer to pursuing Your glory, Your kingdom and Your righteousness. As You have promised in Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great things, and difficult, which you don’t know, we ask that You would show great things that build faith and obedience. Keep this heart rooted in Your Word, humble, patient and willing to wait on You and to obey what You have already revealed. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
