Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this desire for God given vision and we thank you for sharing this request with us in Jesus' name. Your heart to not simply follow personal goals but to seek the Lord's direction is pleasing to Him, and we praise God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that He is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

The verse you quoted is so important, and in the World English Bible it reads Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. The vision spoken of here is not merely human ambition or imagination, but divine revelation, the uncovering of God's will and word to His people. Without His revelation we wander, but when He shows us His way we have life and restraint and purpose.

We love that you quoted James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. If God gives vision, it will be a good and perfect gift from above, consistent with His character and His word, and He will bring it to pass in His timing. We also remember the promise in Acts 2:17 It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. And the Lord says through Habakkuk 2:2-3 Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it. For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay.

We want to encourage you as you seek visions from the Lord to stay rooted first in His written word, for Psalm 119:105 says Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. True visions will never contradict Scripture, so we test everything by the word. As 1 John 4:1 says, test the spirits whether they are of God, and 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. We encourage you to seek Him in consistent prayer, fasting, and waiting upon Him, and to write down what He shows you as Habakkuk was instructed, so you can pray over it and watch for its fulfillment.

Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne together in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation. We thank You for our brother or sister who desires Your vision above their own goals. Lord, pour out Your Spirit upon them. Grant them revelation that is from You alone, clear and plain and aligned with Your holy word. Remove confusion and selfish ambition, and guard their heart from deception. Help them to keep Your law and to walk in obedience to what You show them. Give them patience to wait for the appointed time, and faith to believe that what You have promised You will fulfill. Lead them by Your word as a lamp to their feet, and let their life bear fruit for Your glory. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and Savior, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can approach You. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to delight yourself in the Lord and He will direct your paths, for Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Keep seeking Him daily in the word and in prayer, and He will make His vision for your life known.

Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. We were encouraged to read your prayer. Wanting God's vision rather than just your own plans is a humble and good desire, and we are glad to stand with you in it.

One thing we have found helpful is to think of guidance less as a single moment and more as a long training. Like preparing for a long run, hearing God more clearly often grows through small, steady practices over time. Regular time in Scripture, honest prayer, repentance, and fellowship with other believers shape our hearts to recognize His leading and to hold our own ideas more loosely. It also helps to test what we sense with trusted counsel and with what we know of His character, since our own impressions can be mixed.

If it would help, you might set aside a consistent, unhurried time each day to pray and read, and jot down what you believe God is putting on your heart. Then share it with a pastor or mature believer who knows you and can help you weigh it prayerfully.

Father, we bring our friend before You in Jesus name. Give clarity and a heart that wants Your will above all. Quiet the noise of personal ambition and make Your direction clear in Your timing. Give wisdom to discern Your leading and courage to follow it step by step. Amen.

Your desire not to follow your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord is itself an evidence of grace at work in your heart, and we thank God for it with you. You quote the proverb truly, Where there is no vision, the people perish, but that vision is not a private dream or a new revelation given to one soul alone. In the Hebrew it is prophetic revelation, the Word of the Lord. Where that Word is not preached and obeyed, the people cast off restraint. Give us but a Word out of God's mouth and we can live upon it, but the words out of man's mouth apart from Divine inspiration are unsatisfying food.

You ask for visions, and we hear in that request a longing to know the infallible purpose of God and to be guided by His counsel. Be assured that His purpose standeth. You and I are but waves of His great sea, we wash up and seem to retire, yet the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on. He has never altered a single line of that purpose, and it is a wonderful thing how He effects it while still the creature is free. This is the miracle of miracles, that we are free, yet His counsel shall stand.

How then does He guide His children. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There you have precepts, promises, and principles sufficient for life and godliness. Next, there are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the will of God. By that very acquiescence in the Divine will we are furnished with unerring guidance. David could say, O God, You have taught me from my youth, and until this time have I declared Your wondrous works. He was God's pupil, chastened but never cast out, made to observe God's work and to wonder at it. So may it be with you, to be kept in the school of God, learning to read His work in Scripture and in providence.

We do not pray for a new revelation beyond what He has already given, for we have in Christ and in the Scriptures all that is needed for faith and obedience. We pray rather for illuminated eyes to see the vision He has already given, and for a heart made willing to follow it.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and that every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from above. We thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that You fulfill what You have purposed. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whose blood alone sinners are cleansed and justified, that You would guide our brother with Your counsel. Grant him not a restless seeking after novelties, but a clear sight of Your revealed will in Your Word. Teach him as You teach Your pupils from youth, increase his faith through trial, and give him grace to declare Your wondrous works. Dethrone obstinacy and haste in him, and give him acquiescence in Your divine will, that on earth he may know no real glory but to be guided by You, and afterward be received to glory. Make Your Word a lamp unto his feet, and keep him from cutting the sinew of his strength by neglect of any known part of Your will. All this we ask for Your glory, in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
