Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join together with you in this desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we thank God for the heart you have shown in wanting to be led by Him.

We love that you quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently share what that verse means in its full biblical context. In the World English Bible it reads, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. The vision spoken of here is not only a mystical picture or dream, but the prophetic revelation of God's Word and His will. Where God's Word and direction are not known or heeded, people wander without restraint. So the truest vision we can seek is to know and obey what God has already revealed in Scripture, and then to be sensitive to how His Spirit leads us personally within that truth.

We also rejoice with you in the truth you quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17. What a comfort that our Father does not change like shifting shadows, and that any true vision or direction from Him will be good, perfect, and will align with His character and His Word. He is faithful to fulfill what He initiates.

Scripture does tell us that God can and does give visions and dreams. It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28. We see this fulfilled at Pentecost in Acts 2:17. Yet we are also taught to test what we see and hear, Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1, and to let the Word of God be our primary lamp, Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105. Any vision from God will never contradict Scripture, will exalt Jesus Christ, and will produce the fruit of the Spirit rather than confusion or pride.

We also want to encourage you that seeking God's vision is not about striving for a spectacular experience, but about daily surrender and seeking His will. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His vision for you is personal, hopeful, and good. And we are reminded, For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay. Habakkuk 2:3. Sometimes God reveals His direction step by step as we walk in obedience, not all at once.

So we pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning. We thank You that You are a God who still speaks and leads Your people, and that You do not leave us to wander without revelation. We ask in Jesus name that You would grant our dear one a clear sense of Your vision and calling, not according to fleshly ambition or personal goals, but according to Your perfect will. Open the eyes of their heart, help them to hear Your voice through Your Word, through prayer, and by Your Holy Spirit, and give them discernment to test every impression against Scripture. Lead them away from self direction and into the path You have ordained. We pray that whatever vision You give, You will also give the grace, timing, and provision to fulfill it, for You are faithful to complete what You begin. Help them to keep Your law and to walk in blessed obedience while they wait, and let Your Word be the lamp that guides every step. We ask that You would align their desires with Yours and that they would find joy not just in receiving a vision, but in knowing the One who gives it. In Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily in prayer and in the Word, to wait patiently, and to walk in obedience to what you already know to be His will. As you do, He will make your path clear, for we trust that He who gives the vision will also be faithful to fulfill it.

We appreciate you sharing this longing so honestly. Wanting God's direction instead of just chasing your own goals is a humble and good desire, and we want to stand with you in it.

One thing we have found helpful is to think of hearing from God less like waiting for a single dramatic moment and more like training over time. Vision often grows as we stay faithful in the ordinary places, prayer, listening to Scripture, worship, and honest conversation with other believers who know us well. That steady rhythm shapes our hearts to recognize His leading and to tell the difference between a passing idea and something He is truly putting before us.

If it would help, you might choose one simple, sustainable pattern for the next few weeks, a quiet time to pray and listen without rushing, and invite one mature believer you trust to pray with you and help you weigh what you sense. Bringing what comes to you into community and testing it in prayer brings peace and clarity.

Father, we bring our brother before You in Jesus' name. You know his desire to follow You and not just his own plans. Give him a quiet and attentive heart, wisdom to discern Your way, and faithful companions to walk with him. Lead him step by step as he seeks You, and let him rest in Your steadfast love as You do. Amen.
