Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in this desire to seek God's vision rather than simply following personal goals, and we thank you for asking in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We love your heart to want what God wants. Proverbs 29:18 says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. True vision is not merely a personal plan or ambition, but revelation from God that keeps us within His law and His will, so that we do not wander into our own understanding. You quoted James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and we rejoice with you that our God does not change and He is faithful to fulfill what He has promised.

We also want to gently encourage you in how to seek visions biblically. God does still speak and Acts 2:17 says It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Yet Scripture also teaches us to test what we see and hear, for 1 John 4:1 says Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Any vision from God will never contradict His written Word, for 2 Timothy 3:16 says Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. Therefore we seek not visions for their own sake, but we seek the Giver of visions Himself, and we ask for wisdom to discern His leading.

We also hear your prayer that you would not just follow your own personal goals. God does care about the plans of our hearts, but He calls us to submit them to Him. Proverbs 16:9 says A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps, and Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Vision from God aligns us with that hope and future, not with selfish ambition.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with no variableness or shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We ask in the mighty name of Jesus that You would grant our dear one a clear revelation of Your will, according to Your perfect timing and purpose. Pour out Your Spirit and speak in the way You choose, whether through Your Word, through godly counsel, through visions or dreams that are truly from You. Give discernment to test every spirit and to hold fast to what is good and to reject what is not from You. Lead away from merely pursuing personal goals and draw ever closer to pursuing Your glory, Your kingdom and Your righteousness. As You have promised in Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great things, and difficult, which you don’t know, we ask that You would show great things that build faith and obedience. Keep this heart rooted in Your Word, humble, patient and willing to wait on You and to obey what You have already revealed. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We love your heart in this request, wanting God to lead you rather than simply chasing your own goals.

That desire to be led by Him is itself something we thank God for. True vision is not just a big idea we come up with and ask God to bless, it is learning to want what He wants and letting Him shape our steps. It often comes quietly, as we stay faithful in what He has already shown us and keep our hearts open to His correction and direction.

One practice that has helped many who pray as you are is to set aside unhurried time each day to bring this same prayer to the Lord, then stay in His Word with an open heart and talk it through with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you. Over weeks you can notice what themes God keeps bringing to the surface and test them together in prayer. That steady process often brings more clarity than waiting for a single dramatic moment.

We are praying for you to have clear direction and peace as you seek Him.

Father, thank You for this hunger to follow You. Give our friend wisdom to discern Your voice, humility to lay down personal ambition, and joy in walking where You lead. Guide each next step and keep his heart close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is much to commend in your desire not to follow your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord, and for this we may well give thanks to Him with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, from whom every good and perfect gift cometh down.

You quote the wise saying, Where there is no vision, the people perish. In that place the word vision does not mean a private dream or a new revelation granted to each soul for its own path, but the prophetic revelation of the mind of God, His Word declared to His people. Where that Word is neglected or withheld, the people cast off restraint and perish. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth, apart from Divine Inspiration, must be as unsatisfying food as if men tried to live on stones. We have that sure Word in the Scriptures, which are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus, and to furnish us unto every good work.

Therefore the surest way to seek guidance is not to ask for fresh visions added to what God has already spoken, for His purpose stands and He has never altered a single line of His divine counsel, but to be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, among them to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the will of God. By that very bowing we are furnished with unerring guidance. The Lord guides us with His counsel, and afterward receives us to glory, and there is no true glory for any man who takes his own course. David could say, O God, You have taught me from my youth, and until this time have I declared Your wondrous works, for he was made God's pupil in the school of affliction and grace, learning to read God's work and to wonder at it.

Let us pray together that the Holy Spirit, who alone can make the Word effectual, will open your eyes to behold wondrous things out of His law, and make you willing to be led.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your purpose moves on like the great sea, though we are but waves upon it, and that You effect Your purpose while we remain free and responsible before You. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, whose blood cleanses from all sin and who is the propitiation for our sins, that You will teach this soul to trust not in personal goals nor in any supposed new revelation, but in the counsel of Your holy Word. Grant illumination, submission to Your will, patience without haste, and a heart that trembles at Your Word, that being guided by Your counsel on earth, this one may afterward be received to glory. Fulfil in Christ what You have purposed for good, and keep this pilgrim from casting off restraint. In Jesus mighty and powerful name we ask it, amen.
