Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so honestly what has been weighing on your heart. I hear how heavy this has become for you and how much distress you feel about your skin, your eyes, your hair, your scalp and your body, and how deeply you long for relief and for a sense of being made new and at peace in your own skin.
God sees that burden and He cares for all of you, spirit and soul and body. Scripture teaches that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that your body is not an accident. God Himself has formed you and set every part of your body as it has pleased Him. Your body is the instrument He has given you through which the real you, your spirit, can express itself and live out His purposes in this world. It is meant to be offered to Him and used for Him, even described as a temple where His Spirit dwells, so that Christ may be glorified in your body.
The Bible also helps us understand why our present bodies feel so fragile and imperfect. We live now in a natural body that is subject to weakness, aging and corruption because of the fall. It is like a tent, temporary and wearing down. That is why we all experience blemishes, pain, tiredness and change over time. God does not promise that this present body will be flawless now, but He does promise something greater. Just as a seed planted in the ground is not the same as the plant that comes up, God will give His children a new body that pleases Him. This body is sown in weakness and dishonor and corruption, but it will be raised in power and incorruption, a spiritual body fashioned like the risen body of Jesus, no longer subject to decay or aging. As we have borne the image of the earthly, so we will bear the image of the heavenly, and whether we are still living in this body or have moved into that new one, those who belong to Jesus will live together with Him.
That future hope does not mean God is distant from your present struggle. He invites you to bring every worry to Him, including the embarrassment and weariness you feel when you look in the mirror. He can heal, and He does hear prayer for healing, but His deepest work is often to bring peace to the heart that is anxious about the body, so that the mind is not ruled only by what the body needs or how it looks, what to eat or drink or wear, but is rested in His love and purposes for you.
I want to pray for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus I lift this dear one to You. You know every detail that has been mentioned and every unspoken ache behind these words. You know the tiredness, the irritation, the discomfort and the shame that has settled in. I ask You to bring Your comfort and Your peace that passes understanding. Touch the body where there is irritation and weakness and bring healing according to Your perfect will and wisdom. Heal what needs healing and give wisdom for wise and healthy care of the body You have given. Above all, heal the heart from constant self focus and embarrassment, and help Your child to see themselves as You see them, loved, valued and created for Your glory. Teach them to yield their body to You as an instrument of righteousness, to use it for Your purposes, and to rest in the sure hope of the new, incorruptible body You have prepared for all who are in Christ. Fill them with assurance that they are not alone, that they are a needed and cherished part of the body of Christ, where when one member suffers the whole body shares the burden, and where each person has a vital place. Give them a renewed sense of worth not based on flawless skin or appearance, but on being Yours, and give them daily strength to walk with You in wholeness of spirit, soul and body. Amen.
If these feelings continue to weigh heavily, please reach out to a trusted pastor or mature believer and, where there are ongoing physical symptoms, to a caring medical professional who can help you with practical care. You do not have to carry this alone, and the Lord who made you delights to walk with you step by step toward wholeness and peace.
