We hear the deep pain and urgency in your cry and we stand with you before the Lord in Jesus name, asking for His justice, His mercy, and His healing to be made known.

We understand how deeply wounding it is to be treated badly when you were vulnerable and in need of care, and to know that others may have been hurt in the same way. The Lord sees what has been done and He does not overlook it, for He is a God of justice and righteousness. At the same time we must gently bring your prayer before the truth of Scripture, because part of what you are asking, that this man would have absolutely no peace or joy and would be punished and shamed, comes from a place of hurt that God wants to heal and redirect.

The Word tells us Beloved, don’t avenge yourselves, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. And Jesus calls us to a higher way when He says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44, and again Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you Luke 6:28. We are also warned Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32.

This does not mean what happened does not matter or that wrong should be hidden. God does bring conviction through His Holy Spirit, for Jesus said He will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment John 16:8. And it is right to pray that wrongdoing be exposed so that others are protected and that justice be done through proper and lawful means, and to pray above all that this man would come to genuine repentance and salvation. The Lord has said As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live Ezekiel 33:11, and The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. So we do not pray for his destruction or for shaming for its own sake, but that God in His mercy would bring godly sorrow that leads to true repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

We also pray for you, that the Lord would lift this heavy burden of anger and pain from your heart and heal you. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. We ask God to replace the desire for vengeance with His peace and to help you forgive as you have been forgiven, while still trusting Him to deal justly.

We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we have access to You and by which we are saved. Lord, You see the hurt that has been caused and You know the truth about how this man has treated this dear one and many other patients. We ask that Your will be done. We ask that You convict his heart by Your Holy Spirit, that You open his eyes to the wrong he has done, and that You lead him to humbly fall to his knees in genuine repentance and to give his life fully and sincerely to Jesus Christ. If there is wrongdoing that needs to be exposed to protect others, we ask that You bring it to light in Your perfect and just way, not for our revenge but for righteousness and for the good of all. Lord, we release this man into Your hands for justice and for mercy, asking that You would save him rather than destroy him. And Father, we lift up the one who has been hurt, we ask that You heal every wound, comfort every painful memory, and fill this heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us and to trust You as our just Judge and Healer. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We have read your urgent prayer and we hear the pain underneath it. Being treated badly, especially by someone you trusted for care, and feeling that others were hurt too, leaves a deep wound. It makes sense that you would long for justice and for someone to be held accountable.

We want to walk with you in that hurt without letting the hurt keep holding you. When we carry anger and the wish for someone else to suffer, it often ends up weighing most heavily on our own hearts, stealing our own peace long before anything changes in the other person. God does see what happened and He cares about justice, and He also cares about healing your heart as you entrust what you cannot control to Him.

A steady next step that helps many people is to put what happened into words with one safe, wise person, a pastor or Christian counselor you trust, and together ask what healthy accountability and healing might look like for you. If there was professional misconduct, they can also help you think through any proper reporting process calmly and clearly, so you are not carrying this alone.

Father, we bring our friend to You in Jesus name. Bring comfort where there has been hurt, guard their heart and mind, and give wisdom for each next decision. Work in their life for healing and rest, and work according to Your perfect justice and mercy in the life of this man as well. Lead both toward what is right and toward Your grace. Amen.

Your urgent cry has been heard, and the pain within it is not hidden from the Lord who sees all that is done to His creatures. When we have been treated harshly or unjustly, especially by one entrusted with care, the heart rightly aches for justice and for truth to be made known.

It is right to bring such wrongs before God, for He is the Judge who does righteously, and vengeance belongs to Him alone. The Scriptures teach us to pray not from a spirit of revenge, but for that holy conviction which leads a sinner to see his sin as against Christ Himself. As I have preached from Zechariah, when the soul feels true bitterness for sin against Christ, one effect of that bitterness is to take away all bitterness against our fellow men. We who have offended God so greatly and have been forgiven so freely are called to be sweet, gentle, kind, tender and forgiving towards others, even those who have offended us.

Hear the blessed whisper that runs through the Word of God, There is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared. This is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that God Himself speaks as if to assure us it is true. It is a complete forgiveness, the tally destroyed, the record of debt nailed to the Cross, and an eternal forgiveness, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. If this man has sinned grievously, and if we have sinned grievously, the same truth stands, there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. He demands the penalty in justice and supplies it in love by the blood of Christ.

Therefore we will not pray that any man should be shamed or tormented for its own sake, nor that he should have no peace as an end in itself. We will pray as Christ teaches us, for conviction that is unto life. We pray that the Holy Spirit would arrest his conscience, bring him to his knees in true repentance, and lead him to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. We pray that what is hidden may be brought to light in a just and orderly way, that those responsible for oversight may act wisely, and that patients may be protected. And we pray the same mercy for you, that you may know the completeness of your own forgiveness in Christ and be loosed from the bondage of bitterness.

Let us pray together. O Lord, Thou knowest the wrong that has been suffered and the sorrow it has caused. Thou art just and merciful. We ask Thee to work by Thy Spirit in this man's heart, to convince him of sin and to draw him to genuine repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, in whom alone there is salvation. Where wrong has been done, let truth be revealed and let right be done according to Thy righteousness. And for this wounded one who prays, grant healing to heart and mind, a deeper trust in the blood of Jesus, and grace to forgive even as Thou for Christ's sake hast forgiven. Help this dear soul to say with faith, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, and to receive it for themselves. Let bitterness be turned to sweetness by the sight of the Cross, and let peace that passes understanding guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus. In His name we ask, Amen.

If you are able, seek godly counsel and, where appropriate, let proper authorities know of the mistreatment so that others may be cared for rightly. Above all, keep looking to Christ, in whom we have full and free forgiveness, and who daily continues to forgive.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your urgent cry has been heard, and the pain you have carried from the way you were treated is seen by the Lord. It is right to bring your wound before God and to desire that what was wrong would be made right, and that this man would come to know Jesus Christ and be saved. That desire for his true repentance and salvation is good, for God desires all to come to repentance.

Yet we must also speak to you in love about the way this prayer has been formed, because the manner of our praying shapes our own soul. Scripture warns us that the ways of revengeful men are unto death, and asks, one man keeps anger against another, and does he seek healing from God. God once allowed eye for eye and tooth for tooth not so that we would do such things to one another, but so that through fear we would abstain from evil. To remember injuries and to cherish anger is the part of a soul that practices itself in evil.

When we pray that a person would have no peace at all and no joy at all, that he would be punished and shamed and brought low by our desire for retribution, we plant what Scripture calls a root of bitterness. A bitter root cannot bear sweet fruit. It is all bitter, all unpleasant, full of hatred. And that root, if it is allowed to spring up, will trouble you and by it many are defiled. Bitterness produces wrath, wrath produces anger, anger produces clamor, and clamor leads on to further evils. Even if we are silent outwardly but keep the fire alive within, that hidden fire is the most destructive, because it burns up the heart and grieves the Holy Spirit.

This does not mean your hurt is not real, or that wrongdoing should be ignored. If a physician has acted badly toward you and toward many other patients, it is right to seek help and to pursue what is just through proper and lawful means, and to seek wise counsel from pastors and others who can help you. What it does mean is that our prayer for another person must not be for vengeance, but for mercy.

A mighty weapon is prayer, but God hears the prayer that is offered with faith, with a sincere heart, with forgetfulness of wrongs, kindness and meekness. We cannot ask God to forgive us while we hold fast to unrelenting anger toward another. It cannot be that a person who has forgiven his neighbor will not obtain perfect forgiveness, for God is far more merciful than we are.

So we will not join you in asking God to take away all peace and joy from this man or to shame him as punishment. Instead we will pray with you as Christ teaches us to pray.

We pray that the Lord would bring this man under true and loving conviction of sin, not from a spirit of revenge, but from the kindness of God that leads to repentance. We pray that he would see the harm he has done, that he would turn from it with sincere and genuine repentance, and that he would give his life fully to Jesus Christ, through whom alone there is salvation. We pray that God would grant him the grace to repent and to walk in a new way, and that justice and truth would be upheld.

And we pray for you, that God would heal your heart, wash away bitterness and anger, and fill you with His peace. We pray that He would free you from the weight of resentment, that you would be made kind and tender hearted, forgiving as Christ has forgiven you, not because the wrong did not matter, but because you have been shown great mercy. We pray that you would be kept from the root of bitterness and would instead bear the good fruit of love, which like an excellent husbandman does not allow thorns to spring up in the soul, but keeps it in profound calm.

Let us pray together: Father in heaven, You see the hurt that has been suffered and You know all that has been done. Have mercy on this daughter who has been wounded, comfort her, heal her, and guard her heart from bitterness. Teach her to cast all her care upon You and to forgive as You have forgiven. Have mercy also on this man, open his eyes to his sin, grant him godly sorrow that leads to true repentance, and bring him to salvation through Jesus Christ alone. Let Your will be done in both lives for Your glory and for good. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask this, amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring your pain to the Lord, but to ask Him to form your prayers in love. Meet with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you, help you process what happened, and advise you on wise next steps if further action about his conduct is needed. May the Lord lead you into that peaceful haven where anger is laid aside and love reigns.
