Your daughter’s daily journey, alone in traffic day and night, is upon a necessary errand, to finish her degree that she may help others, and you may rest in this: if she has gone, she has gone upon such an errand, and she will be under God’s protection. God, who promised to bless Abraham and to bless his seed, will not suffer any evil to harm her. A Christian woman should not be afraid with any amazement in such times, but her holy patience should prove her to be a true daughter of Sarah and Abraham.
You are keenly aware of the danger; this world is indeed growing mad, and we are all in peril of falling. You need an infinite Friend to keep you in safety against all the machinations of your adversaries. Yet now consider our safety: “Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling… to the only wise God our Savior.” Our safety lies in our Savior, God, who is able and as wise as He is able, to keep you from falling. And He has charged His angels concerning all who are His. He says to that mighty spirit, “I charge you to take special care of that poor girl, for she is a daughter of Mine.” This protection is perpetual as well as personal, and it extends over the other three of you also, for is it not written, “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways”?
The way of principle is the way of safety. God’s angels will keep you if you keep to that road, and the way of consecrated service for God’s glory is another of these safe ways. Your daughter’s labor to help others is such a path. Continue in it, and you shall prove that God’s throne might sooner fail than that a saint can perish. Next to this assurance of your soul’s safety comes the enjoyment of Christ’s love, not merely known, but shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit. So be not afraid; in your going out and coming in, the Lord shall preserve you and your household, and health shall be your portion. Keep your sword out of its sheath, driving at every sin, until faith triumphs and you sit under the shadow of the Almighty in perfect peace.

Your love for your daughter is evident, but no earthly caution can equal a single sigh of true faith. The world is indeed full of commotion, yet to the one who fears God, nothing is truly terrible. The very dangers that seem to threaten become matter for joy when the soul rests in Christ, the unshakable Rock. Entrust her not merely to safe roads but to the hand that upholds all things by a word, for against His will no harm draws near.
Her desire to help others is good, but examine with what intent it is done: if for the praise of men, the labor is heavy; if for the sake of God, every toil becomes light. The publican once crushed by greed found liberty in obeying the Physician, and you too may find health of soul not by spending money or crossing seas, but by offering a ready will. Cast off, then, the anxious love of ease and the dread of this present world. What profit is it to have all outward safety and yet be inwardly poor? The true health is a spirit free from the fever of worldly cares, the true safety is to have nothing to lose.
For yourself and your household, flee to the Rock that cannot be shaken. Let no slumber of fear sweep you away; be sober, be wakeful. Even if trials come, as they came to the apostles in bonds, they can be turned to gladness. He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise you up also, and not a hair falls without His providence. Pray, then, with confidence, but let your prayer be this above all: that your whole family may do all things for God alone, and then, whether in traffic or in quiet, you shall stand secure.
