Beloved of All
Your heartfelt pouring out before the Lord has been heard, and I thank you for sharing so openly the burden you are carrying for your precious cat. God invites us to trust in Him at all times and to pour out our hearts before Him, for He is our refuge and our strength. He sees every tear, He knows the depth of love you have for this little companion who has become your world, and He hears the desperate cries you have lifted up in the name of Jesus.
I understand how heartbreaking this is to watch. When someone we love suffers greatly, words often fail, just as Job's friends saw that his grief was great and sat in silence because the sorrow was so heavy. It is painful to see the most affectionate companion you have ever known now pull away because the very purring that once expressed her love now brings coughing, and to see her want to cuddle and then retreat to lay alone and stare. The Lord understands that ache. He created these creatures and cares for them, and He cares even more deeply for you as you walk through this valley of helplessness and sorrow.
We join you in praying that God, who alone has power to heal when there is no treatment left, would bring His mercy upon her. We ask Him to ease any pain or discomfort she feels, to calm her breathing, to restore her desire to eat and drink, to give her regular and comfortable bodily functions, and if it is His gracious will, to bring complete healing to the tumor and the lesions in her lungs. We pray that He would relieve the irritation that makes purring trigger coughing, so that she might again enjoy affection without suffering, and that her sadness would be lifted with comfort only He can give.
We also pray for you as you care for her. It is so difficult to have to hold her down to give pills twice a day and to administer the inhaler and the fluids, fearing you will hurt her or cause her distress. We ask God to guide your hands, to give you steadiness and gentleness, to give her a calm spirit in those moments, and to grant you wisdom for every decision you must make on her behalf. He promises to give wisdom to those who ask, and to be near to those who call upon Him.
Your desire to spare her terror in her final moments is a reflection of the love God has placed in your heart. We pray that when her time comes, the Lord would show her great mercy, and that He would provide a way for her to be at peace at home, surrounded by love rather than fear. We ask Him to lead you to the right help, someone who can come to your house if that need arises, so that she need not endure the shaking and crying that traveling and the clinic bring her.
When we do not understand why suffering is allowed, it is so important to hold fast to the confidence that God loves us and is at work even when we cannot see how. Like Job in his loss and physical affliction, and like Joseph who endured years of hardship and confinement without knowing God's larger purpose, we may not see the reason for present pain. Yet God is able to turn what is meant for harm into good, and He uses even these light and momentary afflictions to shape us more into the image of Christ and to keep our eyes not on what is seen and temporal, but on what is unseen and eternal. He comforts us in our trials so that we may know His comfort in a deeper way.
Continue to pour out your heart before Him. He is your rock and your refuge. He has not left you alone in this, and He will not forsake you or your beloved cat. We are praying that you will sense His presence, His peace, and His clear guidance in the days ahead, and that whether through healing or through His gentle taking her in sleep, His mercy and love will be evident.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear cat to You. You know every detail of her body, every mass and lesion, every labored breath. We ask for Your healing touch if it be Your will, for relief from pain, for restored appetite and thirst, for normal function, for easy breathing, and for comfort that allows her to receive and give affection again. Give wisdom and tender hands to the one caring for her in giving medication and treatments. Provide a peaceful way and the right person to help at home when the time comes, and above all let Your mercy and presence fill this home.
