Beloved of All
Your heart is heavy and your words have been heard with much tenderness and compassion. To love a creature that God has placed under your care and to watch it suffer is a true grief, and the Lord who regards the life of His creation knows the sorrow that now presses upon you. A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast, and your careful tending of this dear cat is not overlooked by Him who notices even the sparrow that falls.
We would bear your burden with you before the throne of grace, for we are taught to bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Yet we also know there is a point beyond which we cannot go, and we must cast the burden itself upon the Lord who alone can sustain it. May the Word of God quicken you now, for this is the comfort of the afflicted, that His Word gives life when our own strength fails. Hear what the Lord saith, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people. He speaks to all His people to comfort one another, and we pray that the bright winged messenger of His mercy may bring comfort to your desponding heart.
You have asked that God in His tender mercy would heal your cat. We are reminded that the tender mercy of our God is seen in His great provisions, and that all His mercy to sinners and sufferers is gratis, He never sells, He always gives. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, of whom it is written that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Even the least thing about Christ is healing, and we may bring every sickness and sorrow to Him. We do not claim to know the secret purposes of His sovereignty, for He displays His sovereignty in the seasons He chooses for mercy, but we know He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think, and that His will is wise and good.
Therefore we bring your requests before our gracious Father in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to mercy.
We pray that if it be His will, He would in His power completely heal this beloved cat of the brain tumor and of the masses and lesions upon her lungs, whether they be from chronic infirmity or from cancer. We ask that He would ease and take away all pain and discomfort, and grant her rest. We pray that He would restore her appetite that she may eat and drink again, and that her bodily functions may be made regular. We pray for her breathing, that it may be made easy, and that the purring which once was the sign of her affection may no longer trigger coughing, so that she need not withdraw in sadness but may again know comfort in your nearness without fear.
We pray that God will guide your hands as you minister to her, that in giving the four pills twice each day, and the inhaler three times each day, and the subcutaneous fluids each week, you may do so with gentleness and without causing her distress or harm. We ask for wisdom for every decision that lies before you, that you may be peaceful and restful and quiet, with a peace that is based upon divine grace.
And we pray for that tender hour when her time shall come, that the Lord in His great compassion would show her mercy and, if it be His will, take her in her sleep, sparing her terror and shaking and crying. We ask that He would in His providence provide, should it be needed, one who can come to your house to minister to her at the last, so that her final moments may be in the place she loves and in the arms that have cherished her. Above all we pray that you may feel that your desperate cries and pleas are heard by a Father who is tender in mercy and who delights to give good gifts to His children.
May the Lord comfort your heart and establish you in every good word and work. May you know that though affliction now brings you low, God often begins His distinct purposes of mercy with such stern discipline, that He may afterward make His grace more sweet. Cast your burden upon Him who bore our sins and carries our sorrows, and may His Word quicken you and keep you till you see His footsteps of mercy made plain.
